If only.
With all due respect, she's not the type to ever feel that way. She's thriving during the trial & finding enjoyment in every moment she can. It will be the same during her lifetime incarceration. Frankly, I would bet Mason finds her upbeat, helpful mental state during the trial very disturbing.

Don't discount why she was so happy all morning. She doesn't want ANYBODY saying she's crazy & may well have been extremely pissed at Mason for filing the motion. She's too impressed with herself.

I doubt she "felt" suicidal. A lot of manipulative people use the "suicidal" card to take control of the people around them. The ultimate trump card.

The hypothesis that she came up with a new and better lie is the one that appeals to me. I wonder if she is even capable of remembering what really happened to her daughter? Her delusions and distortions are more real to her anyway.

Morning! I'm sorry if this has been put out there already... I'm at work and pressed for time:

Psychologists: Jailhouse letters offer insight into Casey Anthony’s life behind barsBy Sarah Lundy, Orlando Sentinel
2:01 a.m. EDT, April 11, 2010

The letters Casey Anthony penned in jail show an immature woman who needs attention and adoration from others.

That's what three psychologists gleaned from reviewing dozens of Anthony's hand-written notes and letters to a fellow inmate at the Orange County Jail. The doctors agreed to read and give insight from the letters at the request of the Orlando Sentinel.

"She is spending most of her time in isolation with no audience. She has no outlet for the stuff that goes through her mind," said Dr. Daniel Tressler, a forensic psychologist based in Altamonte Springs.

KC has a new story and wants to testify, because she needs to be in control. She thinks that if she just explains to the jury, they will see it her way. Mason knows this will be a disaster, so he wanted a psych eval to keep her off the stand.

I am pretty certain KC will take the stand.

My opinions...

For someone with experience in this area - what sort of questioning/observations are used to "determine" competency?

How would someone - who has been found competent recently - change such that they'd now be considered incompetent? What, for example, would be examples of observation or behavior that would make that difference?

If you've represented someone for years and you notice a marked change in personality or behavior - I suppose, as counsel, you'd be obliged to have it checked out.

But ... it's got to be a slippery slope...

:dunno: This entire competency bit happened after there was talk of the defense resting, and the jury getting the case. It seems to me, just another excuse to try to get out of this.

Mike Brooks saying something had to have happened that caused the DT to file the competency motion in "good faith". We have seen her following along all this time. She had to have said something that caused them to think she was not in "reality". Then again, she could have been manipulating!

This is one time, I don't agree with Mike Brooks.

Comes now the Defendant, Casey Marie Anthony, by and through her undersigned Counsel, and pursuant to Fla. R. Crim. P. 3.210(b) and Fla. Stat. 916.12 (2010), and asserts the following:

Based on privileged communications between Casey Marie Anthony and her Counsel, Counsel reasonably believes that Ms. Anthony is not competent to aid and assist in her own Defense and is incompetent to proceed. As a result of this well-founded concern, Counsel requests a full competency determination before the continuation of trial proceedings.

The undersigned Counsel does hereby certify that this motion is made in good faith and on reasonable grounds that Defendant is incompetent to proceed.

SIGNed BY CHANEY MASON

Now we know why they didn't want KC to read the transcription of the meeting between PT and DT in the judges chambers.

I have seen in the middle of Trials a DT ask for Evals because the client kept asking for a “CANDY-BAR”

To everything they asked him, he would reply “CANDY-BAR” :floorlaugh:
He was found competent

Mesac Damas, who killed his family of 5.

When he stood in court here in my county over the last few court hearings he just keeps talking out loud and he was sent to Evals by many psychologists.

He was found competent

So who got the fun job of explaining to Casey that just because she's bored, doesn't think this concerns her and wants to go clubbing doesn't mean she's not competent to continue?

My guess is.. They did not get the results until this morning ?
That explains why she was so giddy this AM thinking she was going to get by with it, then her demeanor changed, as she read the document.

I don't understand why ICA was so happy this morning. She seemed to think she was getting her way about something, but the motion was denied and now the trial is wending its way along again.

I don't think KC was "in" on it. CM motioned to keep KC out of the meeting with PT. DS signaled for Melinda to take her out so she would not read the transcript from the court reporter. After she went in the holding room with Melinda, JB and CM talked to her. That was when she was throwing her hands up, like "whatever".

The part that ticks me off is where it says that the experts shall be compensated at a higher rate than established by the Indigent Services Committee due to the emergency nature and short notice.

Yep, the hits just keep on coming for Florida due to this <modsnip>.

I don't think she is bored, she is loving the Casey Anthony show.

Some JG a forensic psych is on In Session speculating that one of the reasons that ICA may have had a nervous break down over the testimony of LA......WTH, this is the same woman who partied for 31 days while her child's body decomposed in a nasty swamp, do they seriously think this would go over well with the jury and public?
A nervous breakdown is the type of behavior that should be expected of ICA after the death of her child regardless of who or what caused Caylee's death instead of being upset that her brother wouldn't play her game, if this speculation were to be true then it would just make ICA look worse since it's purely narcissistic and does nothing to further her DT theory that she must lie and shows no emotion. :banghead:

Just to add to this ICA seems happy and maybe even relieved today, this girl is still manipulating.

Looking back on Saturday (and the minute by minute video), I don't think ICA wanted to be evaluated, and it was JB that wanted her to have it. She was so angry at him. IMHO a last ditch effort by the DT and this went against ICA wishes. Being the narcassist that she is, she cares about what others think about her. The last thing she wanted out there was that she was crazy for coco puffs.

ITA agree that ICA would protest vehemently at the prospect of being examined for competency. But I think it was CM who spearheaded this, as he was the one who called the side bar, and JB appeared to be holding back IIRC. Also, I don't think the evaluation was presented as a competency exam per se and Casey saw it as another opportunity for getting attention, and being getting her story out. Honestly she must be climbing the walls for some social contact in jail and simply reveled in the attention from three males (who she could potentially hoodwink!) over all day Saturday and through Sunday. I don't think she gets many visitors these days. Especially 'new' ones

My theory is that this was not exactly a ploy by the DT, but rather a strategic use of an actual concern of the DT regarding a behavior or statement by Casey. I don't think it was feigned by Casey, either. I wouldn't be surprised if she is delusional to some degree about walking away free from this trial. She could have said or done something totally out there that made someone on the DT go, hmm. Maybe it would be worthwhile to have her evaluated again.
