The 2:00 flight time came from the interview with her friend from Halifax, so it may not be accurate. Someone else said there was a flight at 1:30 to Newark. I believe it was said the car passed through the toll at 1:41 and it was 9 minutes after the flight left. This leads me to believe the flight was scheduled for 1:30. But, who knows what is accurate with the reporting and translations.

If you watch video 2 in spoiler, the woman was ejected after a rollover, she didn’t hit anything (police were bumping her a little, but her speed and the rollover caused her being ejected after she lost control of the car). I can find many other rollover ejections w/o impact. It‘s physics, centrifugal force.

As regards reports she made it out of the water, I am pretty sure this is lost in translation. Being a German and reading English articles translated from German sources, I can tell you these are often horrible. :D

I totally agree, I mentioned a rollover too. I have no problem thinking someone can be ejected in such cases. If it is a rollover with no other cars involved, I would like to see the specific area though because that is going to leave I would think some indications.

I do think much might be lost in translation and wondered that myself yesterday. Add media's usual conflicting reports and voila. If it was incorrect though (her escaping the car in the water), I would think the article would be corrected. It also was the most current article out and seemed like new detail. I can, however, see it misinterpreted possibly.

No disagreement here, just waiting for the answers to all of these things we are discussing.

Thank you both so much.

It gives a far more specific area to look at.

I do not know if they would have made their flight either but I have seen flights held for a tourist so perhaps she was calling (possibly). I wonder if any phone records have been accessed.

Here’s a couple Google Earth images of that Quality Choice Hotel at #22 km.

How could they have gotten up enough speed after the toll booth to go off a cliff?

I’m wondering if they could’ve blown a front tire or if one of their front wheels slipped off the roadway onto that steep hill? They could’ve lost control and the vehicle rolled with the momentum sending it down over the cliff.

If the vehicle did roll over, Portia could've been ejected out through the windshield (near the roadside), while Orlando continued with the vehicle into the water.

I had three or four thoughts.

1. Hit from behind and careened on to the hillside toward the water. She jumped out of the car in order to no go into the ocean. He was attempting to get out but went into the water with car.

2. Some sort of blowout when traveling at a high rate of speed. She jumped out and he could not.

3. Lost control of the car b/c he fell asleep and drove to the cliff. Was her door open in anticipation going in to the water?

4. For whatever reason they went toward the cliff and did the car not go completely over the cliff but she got out because he was unconscious and/or unable to? And, then the car with him in it went into the water.

This red pinpoint shows
Autopista Las Americas at kilometer mark #19. If they had traveled south on highway 7, any thoughts on why they would’ve been West of highway 7 on Autopista Las America’s Highway when the airport is East-Southeast of highway 7?

These are great. I am trying to line them up on the map I have I can zoom on but unsure where they fall. I think I may have it but they must be different years as buildings and roads are different.

Things still are not lining up are they? I can't quite make them either.

Why go west rather than east? They had a rental. Did they get it off the airport in Santo Domingo? Did they need to get gas? Did they not read the signs and confusion ensued as they realized they were going the wrong way? I am not sure we will ever know what happened.

I know it’s the Daily Mail (should be taken with a grain of salt) but they marked the crash site south of highway 7 as if they went straight ahead instead of taking a left turn.

Here’s a link to a map of that same address. - Las Américas
km. 19., Autopista Las Americas, Santo Domingo

I thought of them missing a turn and running like through a "T" where no road continues and straight to the ocean at a fair rate of speed but on 7 this means they would have to fly over an avenue, lanes of travel going one direction, a median and then lanes of travel going another direction and then down the incline. Wow, I cannot picture that somehow. The fishermen also said they heard a crash in Santo Domingo Estes.

Thanks. I’ll try to find a building/landmark right there at the interchange of Hwy 7 and Las America’s Highway and see if I can get a kilometer marker there.

The Canadian woman they spent the day with said Portia was overly cautious making sure their phones were fully charged, their GPS was working on both and that the gas tank was enough to make the trip.
