Has anyone ever heard of an accident where one person lands in the road before the car goes off a cliff with another person?

Maybe not off a cliff, but I've seen accidents where one person is ejected from the vehicle, while the other occupants remained in the vehicle as it rolled over. The person who was thrown from the vehicle may not have been wearing a seat belt.

I pulled up a google map and found an area on the DR 3 highway Southeast of the Marbella toll booth that looks like it could be the "Blender" that sits right off a slight curve of the highway. I am not sure how to get a screenshot of the area though. It is a small alcove of water that looks very rough on the google map image. It is just adjacent to the Quality Hotel Real Aeropuerto Santo.
Google Maps

I think that is close to the area: in the article linked above, police say the location where the woman/vehicle were found was around Km 19 on the highway. Online the Quality Inn gives their address as km 22, which is a bit closer to the airport, the distance is calculated as east from the city.

I would think a Jane Doe without ID would be an immediate connection to LE and media in an attempt to identify as well as an effort to match up with anyone reported missing. Especially one in serious condition who may die. They also would have known where she was found, a highway not far from the airport...

I don't know, to me, if an accident, she would have been in the car with him if rushing to the airport and it was an accident, not on the roadway.

With what we know thus far anyhow.
I think that speaks to the lack of a proactive police force, as well as in the hospital administration. Also, jmo, but everyone may have assumed they were locals rather than tourists, because they were black.

Someone asked earlier about the moon illumination on March 27th.
This photo shows the moon phases and illumination percentages for the Northern Hemisphere for March 2019.

In this photo of the car at the toll booth, although not good quality, it appears that it was Orlando sitting in the passenger seat and Portia was driving? If you zoom in, it looks like a mans body frame on the passenger side of the vehicle.

It does look that way. To me, this fits too that I somewhat doubt she drank much--she was too worried that day in several contacts and conversations about their drive. This is totally speculation on my part though--it just seems to fit.

I wonder what the wifi or cell phone signal is like along that stretch. I remember reading that the car didn't have GPS and she was worried about having the phone charged enough so they would be able to use a GPS (like google maps or Waze) to get back to airport. If a signal dropped, maybe they had no idea where they were going and got lost, and then running late. Even if a cell phone was not recovered, a google maps trip would likely be accessible through their online account. Would be interesting to see if they had taken the correct route, no detours, etc. Even Facebook automatically tracks that location mover thing unless turned off. Even if you don't have Facebook open. Hopefully the families can get some answers if nothing else.

Such a sad ending.

It's just odd to me that the car ends up in the water after coming off the I-7. They had just stopped for a toll. From the satellite view, it appears that the I-7 dumps off into a side road (Marginal Ave de las Americas) and not the main highway which is closer to the ocean. If this is the case, how do they end up on the main highway?

The only explanations I can think of are that they accelerated at high speed because they were running late to make their flight and lost control, OR someone pulled up along side of them, distracted or tried to to rob them, they sped up and they lost control.

What do others think?

woah..unconscious on the road....and then she died on the 4th...

A Westchester tourist who vanished along with her boyfriend while on vacation in the Dominican Republic was identified Wednesday as a woman who died in a hospital on the Caribbean island last week, authorities said.

Portia Ravenelle, 32, was found unconscious on March 27 on a road that leads to the international airport in Santo Domingo, police said.

None of this is making sense

When I request the route from GMaps, it transfers through an underpass from the Marginal road onto the Autopista shortly after turning East.

I think various thing are possible, including the driver being distracted by checking GMaps or arguing with their partner or suddenly spooked by something they saw, hitting something on the road or a pole, something going wrong with the car, over-correcting after veering the other way, darkness and a lack of reflectors so that the driver simply drove off the edge of the highway.

Personally, I think it being a freeway makes an encounter with bad guys much less likely, it wasn't a deserted country road.

I don't know, but what I'm wondering is if there is a missing person case, wouldn't hospitals be contacted to see if there are any Jane or John Does?

I feel terrible for the family searching for the couple and one of them was in the hospital for days. How was that missed?

jmo
This really sticks out to me. It seems that hospitals would have been the first place to check for missing people and surely the local news had some information regarding the missing couple. Something just doesn't feel right about this entire case.

It is also possible that she took that turn too fast and lost control of the car.

It is hard to believe that a couple traveling in a foreign country was killed in a freak accident, but when you factor in a lot of things it just makes it all the more likely that that's exactly what happened. We don't know what condition the car is in either and won't for awhile as divers can't access it.
