i have a huge issue with this! If dc's are distributing their drug under the animal rule, than that company should not be able to utilize this crisis; the crisis that enabled them to get approval by the fda, under the animal rule in the first place, to conduct a typical quantitative study. Imo, if you've got it, you give it, and you can utilize the outcome information gained from that but to withhold potential live-saving treatment in/during an outbreak is unethical. This is bs!

^^^^this!!

Hence my various links, in order. Made me wonder about this stuff. They must be very lucky to already have that backing set up prior, and crazy how its for other various infectious diseases as well...yet the first concentration was researched for Smallpox. Pretty interesting IMO.

Hi ya!
Back to Ebola symptoms and how effective it is to check temps at airports of people coming from countries that have cases of Ebola:

CDC Tracking Fliers On Ebola Nurse Amber Vinson's First Flight

The date that an Ebola patient starts showing symptoms is crucial because it is thought they can't spread the disease before then. In Vinson's case, creating a timeline is complicated because she did not have the classic symptoms of the virus — headache, sore throat, muscle and joint pain, and a spiking fever — even when she was diagnosed upon her return to Dallas.

My opinion is its not effective at all for an international flight that could last 5-15 hours for cripes sake. It's obvious a person may feel fine but develop a fever within that time span. Kinda late if they're already over the freaking ocean. Then what good did the temp screening do?

Interesting TY I found it tacky that they did not have the courtesy to use his first and last name as oppossed "the first Ebola pts room" Felt indofferent to me.

Were talking about three weeks here - what would they expect someone who lives alone to do to survive?

Here's a copy of what they had to sign. Not a very good copy though...

Thread moving s fast...........I'm trying to get caught up..........why are they moving Nina Pham? from TX to MD? is she getting worse? Was she former military?

Forgive me if this has already been posted--I didn't see it. Local radio is reporting that the Southwestern College/Chula Vista CA scare today was a hoax. WAS A HOAX!!!!! My blood is boiling.

Anderson Cooper just outright lied and said that the hospital has not tried to help other hospitals to get up to speed on ebola tx. Can't stand him.

And possibly a long spring................................

I agree. This person was not in contact with Amber, so even if the person they knew that was on the plane was exposed, there is no logical way this person was. Even IF it were airborne, and I definitley believe it is not.

This, however, is a good example of the kind of panic and scares I suspect we will be seeing more and more frequently.

Like I said, it's going to be an interesting winter.

Wow, Uncle of Amber just said on CNN that Amber never contacted the CDC....it was the other way around. Hmmm....didn't the CDC say that she did contacted them? He's being interviewed now if anyone wants to watch Don Lemon

When winter comes and it is very cold in the northern states will ebola virus die? Does it need warmth to thrive?

  • Isolation separates sick people with a contagious disease from people who are not sick.
  • Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.

In addition to serving as medical functions, isolation and quarantine also are “police power” functions, derived from the right of the state to take action affecting individuals for the benefit of society.

Federal isolation and quarantine are authorized for these communicable diseases:

  • Cholera
  • Diphtheria
  • Infectious tuberculosis
  • Plague
  • Smallpox
  • Yellow fever
  • Viral hemorrhagic fevers
  • Severe acute respiratory syndromes
  • Flu that can cause a pandemic
Large-scale isolation and quarantine was last enforced during the influenza (“Spanish Flu”) pandemic in 1918–1919. In recent history, only a few public health events have prompted federal isolation or quarantine orders.

http://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/aboutlawsregulationsquarantineisolation.html

On July 1, 1946 the Communicable Disease Center (CDC) opened its doors and occupied one floor of a small building in Atlanta. Its primary mission was simple yet highly challenging: prevent malaria from spreading across the nation. Armed with a budget of only $10 million and fewer than 400 employees, the agency’s early challenges included obtained enough trucks, sprayers, and shovels necessary to wage war on mosquitoes.

As the organization took root deep in the South, once known as the heart of the malaria zone, CDC Founder Dr. Joseph Mountin continued to advocate for public health issues and to push for CDC to extend its responsibilities to other communicable diseases. In 1947, CDC made a token payment of $10 to Emory University for 15 acres of land on Clifton Road in Atlanta that now serves as CDC headquarters.

This is B.S how could the CDC know that fast that he didn't have Ebola. Do these ****ing people have the slightest clue as to what they are doing? I am starting to get really pissed off. This is not something you just put under the rug! Ebola is a dangerous disease and I am sickened at how things are being handled by people.

Ebola must be stopped at source, not via travel bans: World Bank's Kim
BY ANNA YUKHANANOV - WASHINGTON Thu Oct 16, 2014 1:21pm EDT

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/16/us-health-ebola-worldbank-idUSKCN0I529D20141016

Closing national borders to people from countries hit hardest by the Ebola outbreak is "not an effective strategy" for stopping the deadly disease, the president of the World Bank said on Thursday.
There is only one way to end the Ebola crisis, which is to stop the spread of disease in the three worst-hit countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the World Bank's Jim Yong Kim told the Reuters Climate Change Summit.

Me: real question: why does anyone opposed to travel ban etc always make it a "this" or "that", "either" "or" solution? I mean can't we do both? Send troops to Africa to help stop Ebola in Africa and protect the citizens of the United States?

He is a very very smart person. I mean that, I am not being sarcastic.

From a link above: “The biggest part of the discussion is how Ebola is spread. I will say two things on the topic, no, it is not airborne, and yes, basic hygiene plays a HUGE factor. But while on the topic of whether it is or is not airborne, the definition of an airborne contagion is one that can freely float in the air, survive lengths of time, and infect someone else. VERY few things fit in this category, most have been eradicated, Polio, Small Pox, Tuberculosis.”

“Things that are also NOT airborne, are the flu and the cold. For the flu, you have to come into direct contact with the patient’s body fluids. People can spread it before they show symptoms, just like Ebola (theoretically), and one other HUGE factor…droplets….let that word really sink in. The virus may not be airborne, but the droplets are. All it takes is a little microscopic droplet to land in your eye, nose, mouth, or the unlikely scenario of an open wound, and you’ve now been infected, because you came in CONTACT with their bodily fluids.”

Are Duncan's girlfriend & family ok? Last I read no one has heard from any of them...............they should surface soon................

Interesting. The word up here in NEO news is that she only called CDC as she was preparing to leave Cleveland. Its very easy for the phone records at CDC to verify it. There's no benefit for them to lie about it. If they contacted her, as she alleges, when did they do so? After they discovered she had traveled out of state? Her story is sounding strange.

BTW, she was all over this area. Summit Co Health Dept said she traveled to at least 7 places besides her parents home, planning her wedding. Such a poor decision on her part.
