Ebola outbreak - general thread #3

Who would eat that crap? ty

It is sold to people who have moved from Africa and want "food from home". Just like when I moved to Alaska, i missed the spicy food here (I do not eat seafood so I did not miss that, lol). To them it is what they were raised on, they may believe some of it has medicinal properties or some special significance. Just as Rhinos are killed for the "magical" properties in their horns, so some believe that the meat of certain animals has some purpose or is their version of comfort food.

I can understand them eating it over there when it may be the only option but to illegally bring it over here is another one all together. So it seems ebola may not come to another country inside a human host's body but may be hidden in their luggage as a great amount of the meat confiscated comes from individuals just bring a treat from home to share, I guess as a present. Most guest do like to give their hosts a gift. But i agree, this is gross and i would not eat it. heck, I live in Louisiana and do not eat fish, crab, crawfish and all that stuff. I think it is gross.

Maybe there needs to be some oversight on the funds being sent to these countries to ensure it's being used for its intended purpose. I wonder if the govt in these highly affected countries are as concerned for their population as the monetary donors are. It would not be the first time political issues held up much needed aid. IIRC, it was not long ago that a handful of aid workers assisting Ebola patients were killed by members of the population they were there to help. There's a lot of distrust of aid workers/outsiders, as well as disregard for instructions on how to keep from spreading the virus.

ETA: My point being, it would be ideal if the govt/humanitarian aid groups/population could all be on the same page and have the same purpose=Saving lives and stop the spread.

USA organizations have been sending help, money and food to Africa for as long as I can remember and I'm retired. Where did the money go? to rich people over there? Somone should police the money and aid ..............is country should be on their feet by now, JMOO

AS you can tell, many citizens in my country suffer from severe xenophobia......unfortunately, like ebola, there is no vaccine for it. JMO
What a ridiculous assertion. Are you insinuating that if the current hot spot was in Dallas that all the other states would be perfectly fine with people flying in and out of their airports from Dallas, or cramming into their hospitals just because they are American's?

Yep, your right. It is African immigrants who are buying it illegally and eating it. Sounds like we could have an outbreak of any disease. New York is one of the biggest cities selling it. My opinion based on Google searches.

In France???? ty

Haha, sorry about that. When I saw bushmeat, I assumed it was back in Africa.

How come we don't have an "assume" emoticon?

I feel the same way about people hunting for meat all over the world. I don't like that primates are hunted because they are threatened, but how is their bushmeat different to game hunting in the west? In the west, people hunt for trophies. That's weird to me. Every culture has practices that other culture's find strange or distasteful. So be it.

So two more people sent to er? Deputies? Thought I read that somewhere.

Some stuff was removed earlier, so you might be seeing the post a bit out of context.

Total Cases: 8033

Laboratory-Confirmed Cases: 4461

Total Deaths: 3865

http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/outbreaks/2014-west-africa/case-counts.html

Population of areas:
Sierra Leone 6.092 million
Guinea 11.75 million
Liberia 4.294 million
Sierra Leone 6.092 million

So 3500 confirmed cases out of 27 million people.

Google search!

A lot of people living in West Africa. The bats are for them a "delicatessen". That is one of the main reason why Ebola breakouts are happening. The bats, among other bush animals, are hosts of the Ebola virus.

I saw many of them but was on my phone and didn't respond. I know what it was in reference to.

UPDATE: Fort Hood to Deploy For Ebola Support

(KCEN) - On Tuesday, pentagon officials said up to 4,000 U.S. military personnel could head to Africa to help stop the Ebola outbreak. Of those troops, over 500 would be Fort Hood soldiers.

IMO, this is very frightening to send thousands of US soldiers to West Africa as it's not even known how dangerous this Ebola outbreak is, how quick someone can get infected, there is still not sufficient and effective vaccines or medication to fight Ebola if someone got infected.

I know all this, I just didn't realize it was black marketed in France and U. S. I think about that man on t.v. that eats all these weird dishes and loves them. I did however read that he gotten ill on one of the shows from eating some thing. jmo

(KCEN) -- III Corps units have now been notified of a possible deployment in support of Operation United Assistance amid the Ebola outbreak in west Africa.

<modsnip>

The release also says III Corps units deploying will receive medical training and use specialized personal protection equipment for their safety before, during and after the deployment.

No other information has been released, including when these soldiers would be deployed for the Operation United Assistance. Check back with KCEN for more updates as we receive them.

I didn't know it either. But I know that a lot of illegal meat trade is happening in Europe since the borders opened a few years ago, lots of recalls of meat is happening.
