Disagree...having lived through this with a loved one..he handled this perfectly. He was not enabling...he was protecting the kids.

Having lived through this also, the best case would be making her responsible for her actions. DUI charge, night in jail, court and restricted license.

Sounds like he was more concerned about "appearances".

Did you allow alcohol in your house? I didn't. I quit drinking. Period. I was not going to add to my spouse's temptation. If he wanted to go out and drink, he wasn't allowed back in the house.

By the sound of it, she was traveling at quite a speed. She pushed the truck she hit a few hundred feet. Did she nod off? Just bizarre.

Maybe she realized that because she had stopped off to have a few that she was now late for her AA meeting and gunned it at warp speed? She wanted that truck and the trailer it was hauling to get out of her way so she would be at AA for a little fellowship and coffee before the meeting began?

Sorry if I am offending anyone. Just my own life experience ...knowing how manipulative and controlling an addict can be, maybe colors my view of Julie's actions and decisions. We found drawing a very strict line and being controlling ourselves allowed us to live our lives rather than let the addict control. He had to take control even though he was not allowed to know the full extent of her illness....again the addict being manipulative and controlling.
He had a responsibility to protect the kids...Julie had given up her rights long ago....OK finished with rant!

This is one loooong side bar. Wonder what they are arguing about.

there's a fine line between being an active partner (husband in this case) and playing cop or overseer in a person's recovery .....

It really seems the controller in this marriage was Julie.

Yeah, she got where she wanted to go for rehab because of him. He was good enough to see that was done for her, yet she made sure she controlled the entire situation, and he wasn't able to know about anything what was happening in her rehab treatment. She was controlling enough to make him the odd man out even though this was her own husband who was trying to get her help.

She seems very narcissistic, controlling, and overbearing.

IMO

Jury excused. Judge address a display that had not been completely addressed by defense. Judge said he'd step out of the room, and give them a few minutes to discuss it. Parker allowed to step down during break.

The defense hadn't read the emails? Is this new evidence just dropped into their laps now?

You need to look at the actual LE report. The LE on scene specified possible "drug" impairment, not alcohol. Her "estimated" speed was 15mph above the speed limit of 55, the landscape truck and trailer slowed for a turn and she re-ended it.
LE on scene did NOT request a Tox screen from "first aid" responders.

If you really need me to tell you then you haven't been paying attention.

I have been paying attention. I'm trying to understand your point of view better.

I know this is an emotional trial (modsnip) I'm coming from a genuine place here.

over a long marriage with substance abuse issues, from what I have observed (alanon too) is that there is danger of the non alcoholic becoming as sick as the alcoholic.....

I would have been more impressed if PS had both kids attending Alateen as that program is geared towards young teens who need to understand that even though their parent is actively drinking it need not warp the kids and it does give them a safe place to receive support.

I wonder if the kids didn't want to have JS ''ruin'' thanksgiving or was that just PS's understanding(I appreciate he appears to have kids' best interests but their is an element of suspicion on my part that he wanted to look like the hero and have kids all to himself to punish JS -kind of like see dad is more fun than Mom

You know, all this talk about AA - did JS ever actually go to an AA meeting? She should have a sponsor if she did, and we certainly would have herd from them by now, no?

I don't believe that for a minute .... Those emails have been posted and printed all over the place... The DEF must have their head buried so far in the sand or up somewhere else (wink, wink) to have not seen these emails... :twocents:

I don't need to review the report. I think because she was driving a nice car, in a nice neighborhood and was probably very polite LE ticketed for drug impairment. IMO I think alcohol and driving at @ 70 plus miles in a residential area had more to do with her collision.

No, that's why it's called "Alcoholics Anonymous".
