Faculty at USF in Dept. of Mental Health; adjunct in Dept. of Criminology & Dept. of Psychology. Teaches and does research, trains mental health professionals and lawyers. At USF for 25 years. Practice in forensic psychological evaluation - licensed as a psychologist, board certified in clinical psychology and forensic psychology. Been in practice since 1989. He evaluates individuals whose mental state is in question for court proceedings, for custody, or in workplace environments.

Bachelors in psychology from U of Roch, Masters & Doctoral Degrees from Fla State (Tallahassee), U of Nebraska -- Fellow in law & psychology; Masters in Legal Studies.

He's evaluated about 7 to 8 people a year for 25 years with regard to sanity at the time of a crime. Usually hired by defense. In the past half year, he's been retained 3 times by defense to determine insanity - 2 times he found the person insane, and once...

Why don't these experts giving testimony keep a list of their prior experience, and stats explaining it? They are asked for this information in every single trial I've witnessed, and invariably respond indicating that they don't keep a strict count of how many times they've been contracted and what the decision ultimately was.

In my profession I would never get away with such vagueness!

Legal standard for sanity depends on the jurisdiction.

In Fla:
Did person have a mental disorder?

Did the mental disorder affect the person's ability to understand what he/she was doing or understand the wrongfulness of their actions.

A person can be psychotic but still be legally sane.

Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mostly MI people can be sane/psychotic/delusional/suicidal can still be sane within the definition of the law in Florida
