The search for a missing Tallahassee woman has yielded some critical new clues, but there is still no sign of Danielle Brown herself.

The sheriff says he doubts they'll find Brown alive, but he's determined to find her and give her family some answers ... despite a trail of clues that covers lonely roads in two states.

A piece of Danielle Brown's drivers license turned up along the side of this two lane country road, Old Beachton Road just over the Georgia state line.

A firefighter found her cell phone in a ditch here too.

So Monday, volunteers, many from the Brown's church in Crawfordville, were combing the roadside again, with umbrellas in hand.

"I hope to find something that would help bring them closer to bringing this to a conclusion. I know that I would want that and I'm sure that Tommy and the family, all the family does," said Daniel Cooksey, the pastor at Ivan Assembly of God Church in Crawfordville, where Brown's father attends services.

The sheriff shared the news about the drivers license and cell phone at a briefing Monday morning.

He also revealed that person of interest Elijah James, stopped at covenience store in Bradfordville the morning after Brown disappeared, showing up in her car, alone, at 5:30am to buy a case of beer.

Investigators would not confirm which convenience store it was or if there was surveillance tape of James, but only the Circle K is open at the time of morning on Saturday.

The sighting further pinpoints the time of Brown's disappearance, between 11:30pm Friday and 5:30am Saturday, but it also means the search is widening. And James isn't talking.

"Mr. James is not giving us any indication that he is willing to help us and he's asked for an attorney," Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell said.

We caught up with deputies and volunteers on horseback near Loveridge Plantation.

It's off Old Centerville Road, a muddy red clay road flanked by oaks and pines and not much else.

If James was familiar with backroads and backwoods like this, there's no telling where Brown might be.

"The longer it takes that there's no contact with anybody, the more bleak it appears," Campbell said.

We must point out that at this point James is charged with stealing Brown's car and setting it on fire, but has not been charged in her disappearance.

The sheriff says it is possible to proceed with murder charges without finding a body, but clearly he hopes that is not necessary.

The sheriff said Brown's cell phone did reveal some clues, but they would not disclose them. He also said there has been no activity on any of Brown's credit cards or other accounts since her disappearance.

Volunteers searching along Old Beachton Road this afternoon said they did find a few things which deputies bagged as evidence, but they weren't sure if they were linked to this case or not.

And he said Elijah James III, who is in jail on charges of arson and grand theft in connection with the case, is not cooperating. James has not been directly charged in the disappearance of Brown.

"James has not given us any assistance in locating Danielle," Drzewiecki said Tuesday

UPDATED 2.17.4:15pm

The search for a missing Tallahassee woman continued in the woods of Leon County today.

The SWAT cancelled its practice today and searched woods and ponds along a four mile stretch of Proctor Road for any sign of 21 year old Danielle Brown.

The dirt portion of Proctor Road stretches between Centerville Road and Thomasville Road.

Deputies say they bagged a few items as evidence and took a closer look at what appeared to be a piece from inside a car trunk, but don't know if any of the items are linked to Danielle Brown's disappearance.

"Two weeks since Danielle Brown's disappearance, searchers raked through fields of garbage at the Thomas County landfill ..." This is the destinatiom for small dumps & trailers throughout the area. As proven by recent cases, it has become prudent to keep detailed records of the sources for each load at dumps.

The suspect in her disappearance/murder, Elijah James is an ex-boyfriend. They were last seen arguing as they left her home in her dad's car. He was seen driving her car, alone then it was later found burning near his sister's home in GA. The tags & VIN plate had been removed, but haha, autos have identification numbers in other places ( remember the vin# on an axle that connected the OK City bombing truck to the suspects?). For now, James is in custody for auto theft & arson but it's a sure bet murder charges are coming.

An area of about 50 miles radius has been the focus of searches. Items belonging to the missing girl have been found in Ga & FL. Pieces of her cell phone & driver's license were found on the roadsides. A Coach handbag like hers was found in the T'ville dump on Friday..... Randomly driving back roads, tossing out her belongings & burning the car to destroy evidence must have seemed a stroke of brilliance to James, but I think he should be getting really worried about his future.

Investigators have determined that a purse found Friday at the Thomas County, Ga., landfill during the search for Danielle Brown is not connected to the missing woman, said Sgt. Tony Drzewiecki, spokesman for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

Numerous agencies took part in a two-day search of the landfill, and several other items of interest were recovered. They are still being examined, Drzewiecki said.

“The thorough and exhaustive efforts of law enforcement officers from Florida and Georgia have produced valuable investigative leads,” Sheriff Larry Campbell said. “Our commitment to uncovering the truth of what happened to Danielle remains unwavering.”

A month after a Tallahassee woman disappeared, authorities say their search and commitment to finding her continues.

Leon County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson SGT Tony Drzewiecki said, "The passage of time does not deter us from our end goal."

That end goal is finding 21-year-old Danielle Brown.
That passage of time is exactly one month.

Brown was last seen February 5th leaving her home on Springhill Road in Tallahassee.

Whitney Chastaine lives off of Springhill Road, and can't help but think about the missing woman as she walks along that same street.

Chastaine said, "When I heard that she went missing, it's very sad. That could've been one of my kids and she is a child to somebody. I think it's good that they're still trying to find her. I don't think they should give up that easy."

Leon County deputies say they haven't given up, and it hasn't been easy.

SGT Drzewiecki said, "In a lot of ways, this investigation is unprecedented for its scope. You're dealing with two states, several law enforcement agencies from several different counties, all working together for the same goal; and that's to find Danielle Brown and find answers for her family."

Danielle Brown Disappearance Reclassified as Homicide
LCSO now calling Brown's disappearance a murder.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office has reclassified its investigation into the disappearance of Danielle Brown as a homicide, according to LCSO Spokesman Tony Drzewiecki.

Brown vanished February 5th after leaving her Springhill Road home with ex-boyfriend Elijah James.

James has since been arrested for torching Brown's car and abandoning it a dump site in Pavo, Georgia, but he has not been charged with her murder.

Brown's license and phone were found on a Georgia roadside, but no one has found her body.

State Attorney Willie Meggs made a decision Monday night to drop car theft charges against James in Leon County, saying deputies are not sure in which state James stole Brown's car.

That clears the way for James to be extradited to Georgia to face arson charges.

As to whether Meggs will pursue murder charges against James without finding Brown's body, he said they'll have to cross that bridge when they get to it.

The investigation into the disappearance of Danielle Brown more than a month ago is for the first time being classified as a homicide case.

Investigators with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office have previously suggested there was little hope of finding Brown alive after she disappeared Feb. 5. But now, they are acknowledging that they believe she is, in fact, dead.

UPDATED 3.16.10 6:40pm by Julie Montanaro

The search for a missing Tallahassee woman expanded Tuesday as crews scoured the woods and waters of Jefferson County.

So far, they haven't yielded any new clues.

Divers tangled with roots and grasses in Wade Creek. They could see only inches front of their faces, but continued to look for Danielle Brown or any evidence that may have been thrown over the bridge.

"Hopefully we can locate her. But (we are looking for) anything that might lead us to that conclusion. We're all anxious to conclude this investigation, mostly for the family," Jefferson County Sheriff David Hobbs said.

Danielle Brown disappeared February 5th and deputies believe she's dead.

More than 100 law enforcement officers descended on southern Jefferson County Tuesday looking for her body, her clothes, her purse or plates missing from her car.

Detectives say they have information that puts person of interest Elijah James in this area in the wee hours after Brown disappeared.

"We're not going to get into the specifics of what those leads are, but we're confident that he was in Jefferson County on the 6th and 7th," LCSO Spokesman Tony Drzewiecki said.

The search for Danielle Brown has covered three counties in two states starting with a search near James's mother's home in Miccosukkee, Florida ... up to a city dump site in Pavo, Georgia where Brown's car was found torched and abandoned ... to the Thomas County landfill ... and now to Wacissa, Waukeenah and Capps in Jefferson County.

The only surprise in Jefferson County so far were some bones in Wade Creek, but deputies say they appear to be the discarded carcases of deer that didn't survive hunting season.

An LCSO Spokesman says deputies did bag several items as evidence Tuesday, but have no way of knowing yet if they are linked to Brown's disappearance.

The agencies will continue their search in Jefferson County Wednesday, this time focusing on the northern end of the county.
