Last I heard it was 130 MPH, CAT 3, and strengthening.

It's a slow moving storm hovering over unusually warm ocean water. Does warm water strengthen the storm? Is that why the storm slows down or speeds up? Cooler water temperatures, faster moving storm, less rain? Warmer water temperatures, slower moving storm, more rain?

At 8 AM local time, the storm is predicted to hit land, possibly as a CAT 4 storm.

I think that's correct. Predictions are that it could strengthen as it slows down over the ocean from 18 MPH to 17 MPH as it heads North.

Have you checked out the webcams? There's three active ones. One's taken from the Casino looking north up Shore Blvd. One of them, the clearest one is pointing down to the bay from the beach bazaar where the post office is and the third one is the blurriest one looking northwest from the sports complex where the sports area is.

Here's the one from the Casino (it's not really a Casino, it's a dance hall which is a historical building) link:

I can't seem to link the casino one but it's on the same website.
Thank you!

Predictions are that it will hit land around 8 AM as a CAT 3 hurricane and dissipate over the next 12 hours, leaving the Florida peninsula between 2-8 AM on Thursday as a CAT 1 storm, and later a tropical storm over the ocean.

I actually fell asleep from 12:30am to 3:30am. Slept right thru the bands of rain. Looks like we're being whipped with Idalia's tail for the next 12 hours. That will mean on/off storms, wind and the l o o k i e l o o s will be out driving around being stupid. Stay in and stay safe. It just looks okay out but it's really not.

Perps will try to steal anything of value and recycle it. One couple was installing metal hurricane shutters and someone stole the rest of the stack of shutters right out of their yard! I don't know if the metal recycling yards are trained to be on top of that or not.

My new silver buttonwood tree lost a small branch. I can see a long slim branch in the back yard that came off the huge oak tree. Recycle bin fell over, tiny little tree twigs and leaves on the front patio/deck and driveway. Likely from the neighbors oak tree. At sunrise I'll walk the yard.

I see Panama City is right on the edge of the worst of it, hopefully my oldest actually got some rest. Now we wait, pray, cross our fingers that the damage, deaths, injuries, loss of properties is manageable and as minimal as possible.

I'm watching a guy on YouTube. There was quite of bit of freak-out about a Cat 4 going into Tallahassee. Fortunately, the storm wobbled to the east. (I'm up cuz I'm cleaning my house from remodeling and my kids are coming to town)

My daughter flew into Orlando Tuesday morning and she's staying with her in-laws somewhere in Polk County. I'll need to catch up with her tomorrow.

Look at the storm surge in downtown Gulfport! The beachcam went out, so I switched to downtown. Even the beach didn't look very windy. But the waves just kept coming ashore like a high tide. Now it's downtown.
