PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. —
Loved ones of 74-year-old Gary Levin are concerned as they have not heard from him since he picked up some riders for Lyft on Monday.

**************
Levin lives in Palm Beach Gardens, and family members have not been able to get in contact with him since that afternoon.

"Lyft said at this point, they can only share that he was active on the app at 1:22 p.m.

**************
Family members said highway scans show the car was seen in Miami, Okeechobee County, Sumter County, and most recently in Gainesville on Wednesday.

"I can’t imagine him going and picking someone up in Miami and then going to Okeechobee? Like that would be, you know, he would let his girlfriend know. They had dinner plans on Monday night, and he never came home. He would let her know, 'Hey, I’m driving from Palm Beach Gardens to Miami and then to Okeechobee,'" DiBetta said.

As family members kept trying to contact his cell phone, they learned that his phone has been off since 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

*****************
"In my mind, it makes me feel like someone took his car," she said.

Police described Levin as about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds.

******************
"He is a 100% technology guy. And he’s always posting on Facebook, and he also uses his GPS for everything on his phone. Like, it doesn’t make sense that he would be driving the Lyft car and not even have his GPS going on," DiBetta said.

WPBF 25 News reached out to Lyft for a comment.

"Our thoughts are with Mr. Levin's family and loved ones during this deeply concerning time. We've been in touch with his family to offer our support and stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation into this matter," a Lyft spokesperson responded.

LE needs to find the last passengers he picked up! Where did they get picked up from, where did they need to be dropped off at? They would have that info in the Lyft app.

Has their credit/debit card been used since? If they took the car, they’d need gas at some point.

If you're not familiar with Florida, you may not know how far Palm Beach Gardens is from Gainesville. It's SO far. Maps says 3 hours 47 minutes on the fastest route, but when you factor in Orlando traffic on that route, it's easily 4.5 hours and 260 miles. It's almost impossible for me to imagine a thief has taken the car nearly the entire length of Florida. I suspect Gary is still with the car and has become disoriented for some reason.

Wow! In NC and the driver ran.

WLOS reported the driver, now identified as Matthew Scott Flores by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, is a suspect in a murder investigation in DeSoto County, Florida.

Boy was I wrong. Do we suppose that the perp was a stranger/Uber customer who murdered Gary for his car?

No confirmation that Gary is deceased but another man is.

The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) said on Friday, Jan. 27, Mathew Scott Flores, 35, had an active warrant out for his arrest in Hardee County, within the city of Wauchula.

Flores is being charged with second-degree murder for the killing of Jose Carlos Martinez.

His accomplice:

Police also said that Stephanie Velgara, who they claimed assisted Flores in fleeing from Florida law enforcement, has been arrested and is being charged as an accessory.

Yes, thankful that Mr Levin's car was found and so hopeful that he's found and safe. FGS, the perp could just drop him off in Okechobee, somewhere remote. Been worrying about this man all night and was so happy it was posted here. A 74 year old man working just breaks my heart. When I was young, SS and pensions kept senior citizens retired. People work all of their lives and some criminal comes along and possibly harms them. So freaking sad. I'm sure he has grandchildren and children, possibly a wife, that are so worried. :(

Smart judge.

While in court, Flores asked the judge whether he could leave jail if he paid the $2 million bond. The judge amended the bond to be $2 million in cash.

Checking to see if there was any news. Still praying and hoping because it's all I can do. I'm sure LE is looking into perp's cell phone records to see both his path and any stops for areas to look into. I know this takes time but I hope things are expedited because a life may be on the line. Not giving up hope. It's all we've got.
