HOMESTEAD, FLA. (WSVN) - Police seek the public’s help in their search for a man who was reported missing near Elliott Key.

According to Miami-Dade Police, 51-year-old Harvin Woods was last seen at the sandbar of Homestead Bayfront Park, located at 9698 SW 328th St., at around 6 p.m., Saturday.

Woods stands 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs around 205 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He sports a beard.

He was last seen wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt and blue shorts.

Officials urge anyone with information on Woods’ whereabouts to cal MDPD Detective M. Ritch Jr., or any on-duty detective of MDPD’s Special Victims Unit, at 305-715-3300 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).

Woods was not diagnosed with any physical or mental impairments, but may be in need of services, police said.

Coast Guard ends search after looking over 900 miles for missing 51-year-old man

After looking over 900 miles the search has ended for a missing 51-year-old man.

The Coast Guard said on Tuesday, March 28, the search for Woods ended. Crews and partner agencies searched around 36 hours, covering more than 930 square miles before the search was called off.

“The decision to suspend search and rescue operations is always a difficult one,” said Lt. Cmdr. Benjamin Tuxhorn, a Coast Guard Sector Miami search and rescue mission coordinator. “Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones during this challenging time.”

Uh oh. Did he know how to swim? When the tides change how deep is the water over the sandbar? Some sandbars are just offshore and you can get to them easily. Maybe this one is further out.

...boaters who were in the area of the sandbar the night of March 25 may have information that could help authorities find Woods.

“We are trying to locate all the individuals who were on those boats, hoping they can come forward and give us any information they may have,” he said.
