It still sounds to me like a co-worker that really disliked her and probably because she got promoted and he felt it should have been him. She did climb the ladder at work fairly fast and she probably deserved any promotions that she got. Her being a woman working in a man's field must have ticked someone off. With her gone maybe he thought he would have the position that was rightly his in the first place. Probably the same person that slashed her tires.

From what we know there weren't any ex-boyfriends that would want revenge or anything. No motive there. No ex-husband giving her trouble. It wasn't a burglary or a rape. It has to be work related I think anyway. I hope LE investigated every single worker there and checked each one for any bites on their arms. I wonder who took over her position?

Did Heather's home have a security alarm system installed? Curious that the Fire Marshall's Office couldn't determine what type of excelerant was used. Was a gas can of any type found in the house? The more I reread, the more surer I am that this was a "personal" vendetta against Heather. Based on what ncg has said, Heather didn't have much money and wasn't involved in drugs, so those two reasons would appear to be discounted for a motive.

ngc: How are you doing? The past holidays must have been so rough for you and your family. How are your parents holding up?
 
Thank you for your thoughts. I was able to go to Gainesville with my family this past weekend to visit my father. We had a good weekend.

Heather did not have a security alarm. I found it odd the Fire Marshall could not find an accelerant, but that is what they have said. There were several gas cans around the house. If I remember correctly there was one in the bed of the truck, one in the garage, and one in the back yard. All of them were mostly full and were not used. The fire department got to the house soon enough that none of them burned.

Heather did have a brief drug problem when she was younger, but that was years ago. During her last year she did develop a drinking problem and was in AA. The drinking came on from the death of our mother in the fall of 2005. She was in a good group. Several I meet during her funeral service, and they all said she was clean and from everything I had spoken to her about and they verified she was moving forward with plans to attend school.

I believe it was someone she knew, but that comes from the statistics that most of these types of crimes are committed by people the victim knows.
 
Does LE have any leads or are they just keeping any info they have real quiet?
 
It's a pretty wide speculation, but could this be tied to this recent topic somehow? :confused: :waitasec: I'll be upfront and admit, I saw Gainseville, and thought "Florida" so maybe not?
 
Does anyone have any links about what happened that are a bit more permanent? I didn't see any? I'd like to read about what happened, instead of trying to put the puzzle parts together.

Okay....

All of you who "know" me, know I don't post often. However, this case is really bothering me. I am just thinking out loud, so please all, just take it with a grain of salt.

NCG, I am terribly sorry for your loss. I know in some small way what you are going through and my heart just aches for you and your family.

NCG said that Heather was attending AA...and that got my motor started...

If I am not mistaken, most people who are in AA have a sponsor. That being said, if Heather had a sponsor, could this person have wanted to be something more to her and was rebuffed?

Also, what if this sponsor was the one who slashed her tires, believing that she would call them for help, and they could be the "important hero of the hour?" Then when she didn't (because she had perhaps called her father, another friend, LE...) was angry that their plan did not work.

Not sure about this...but does AA have "outings"? You know, like picnics, field days, etc. that Heather would have attended with Kira and/or her dog? That being the case, then both would have been familiar with this person (hence Kira needing to be silenced and the dog going peacefully into the study).

Perhaps this AA sponsor/attendee had been at Heather's home prior and knew the layout. That might also be why Kira was calling her mother's friend...to say, "Hey <insert friend's name>...<insert perps name> is here hurting my mom" because she knew the friend knew this perp also. Little 6 year olds may not comprehend imminent danger, thus she was "telling on" this perp and trusted the friend to help, comfort, or advise her?

Like I said, I am just throwing these things out there, because when I read "AA meetings" the hair on the back of my neck stood up. Alcoholics/recovering alcoholics (not meaning Heather here) can be very manipulative, conniving, self-entitled, and con artists. More so if they are in rehab because it has been court ordered and they are not there because they want help. Additionally, court ordered attendance may indicate fingerprints/DNA being on file. Therefore the need to destroy the evidence at the scene.

I hope LE has thoroughly, thoroughly looked into any and all people who attended these meetings the entire time that Heather attended. The perp, if it was just another member, may have stopped attending months ago. They need a roster of those who attended, even if it was only once, from day one that Heather attended.

My prayers to the family of Heather and Kira and my fervent hope for justice.
 
I think it's someone Kira knew too. I just can't see him killing her otherwise. Unless of course, he's a serial killer. It bugs me that he is walking around free to kill again.
 
Checking for any news. Didn't they find any evidence inside the house or was it to badly burned? I hate it when killers don't get caught. Everyone deserves justice.

I Bobbisangel and others I wish there was new news to report, but there is none.

Fermi, regarding the AA idea I did meet her sponsor and she came forward to the police with information and my understanding is that other people from her group spoke with the lead detective to offer whatever assistance they could.


I wish I had new information or other ideas, but please do keep thinking of new ideas.

We had mentioned earlier on about LE checking around at hospitals or doctor offices, (we have a 24 hour emergency office, which is not part of the local hospital) if someone might have come in to be treated for any "dog bites". Do you know if that had been done?

I am sorry to hear there is no "new" news to report. Someone out there is walking free THAT SHOULDN'T BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This might have been mentioned before, but did Kira's vehicle have a GPS on it?
 
Were there any younger people from in Heather's AA group? Someone she would have helped or shown an interest in? Did she know anybody around where she lived that was younger who she tried to help or felt sorry for.

Did she mow her own lawn or have a handy man? Did she have any one do repairs recently anywhere around her house?

A neighbor she felt uncomfortable with? Or bothered her?

Who owned the house before Heather did? Were they checked out? Is it possible they may have been the intended victim? Just a thought.

The Xmas tree was still in the back of the truck? Why hadn't she brought it in? Was she changing her clothes when she was interuppted and killed? Why would she put a gas can in the truck with a tree--seems strange.

Why didnt the dog make rucus when a stranger was in the house--he had to be dead by the time Heather and Kira got home. They didnt scream--noone heard anything.

Where did Heather go--the hour she was gone running errands?

Have the people in her AA group been checked any with records?

Not a professional killer-he didnt cut phone lines, and Kira surprised him. Didnt use an accelerant. A neighbor saw him running away--too sloppy. Did Heather leave Kira to spend overnight at her grandfather's house very often? I think the killer followed her there or knew Kira stayed overnight there. So he wasn't expecting her to come back with Heather.

If she didnt stay at your Dad's very often then the killer had to see her during the time she ran errands, and is not someone she knew. Because the killer was suprised by Kira, he strangled her not shot--why? Did he not have any more bullets? Reacted to the surpise by strangling her is my thought.

Fire was started in 2 spots why? Could it have hid what ever the killer removed? He was seen with something in his hand. I know heather had no valuables--but is is possible whoever lived in the house prior to Heather did and the killer didnt know they had moved? That the killer came back to get what ever it was he had left? The people who owned this house previoulsy did they have anyone in hteir fmaily that had a record or had bene in jail?? Just a thought.

He used a weapon and wsa also charged with Kidnapping he lives less than a mile from Heather and Kira. Have they checked out the sex offenders and ruled them out?
