Olivier, circa 2011

  • Missing Since 08/24/2011
  • Missing From Homestead, Florida
  • Classification Endangered Missing
  • Sex Male
  • Race White
  • Age 23 years old
  • Height and Weight 5'6, 130 pounds
  • Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Black hair, green eyes. Olivier's hair was styled in a Mohawk at the time of his disappearance. His ears are double-pierced. His nickname is Jake.
Details of Disappearance
Olivier's vehicle, a dark green 1998 Isuzu Hombre pickup truck with the Texas license plate number ADG3707, was found abandoned by Everglades National Park rangers in a parking lot beside Pine Glades Lake in Homestead, Florida on August 27, 2011. The rangers noticed it had been parked there for several days.

The receipt inside the truck indicated Olivier went to the park on August 24, and a surveillance video showed him driving in alone at 1:00 p.m. on that date. The last time his cellular phone pinged off a tower was at 4:45 p.m. Olivier had no known friends or relatives in Florida and his family didn't know he was there until his truck was found. He has never been heard from again.

Olivier lived in Texas at the time of his disappearance. It's uncharacteristic of him to go this long without getting in touch with his relatives. He has used drugs in the past and been through drug rehabilitation, but there weren't any drugs or evidence of drugs in his vehicle when it was located. There was a gun case inside the truck, but no gun. A search of the park turned up no indication of his whereabouts, and the search was called off in September.

There have been no confirmed sightings of Olivier since he went missing. He may be in the Savannah, Georgia area. The circumstances of his disappearance are unclear.

If they think he could be in Savannah GA, wouldn’t the camera show him leaving, maybe with someone else? The Everglades would be an odd place to meet up that’s for sure.

The gun missing does make one wonder what his goal was. Protection during a hike? Suicide?

I think the CCTV is from when he entered the park. I'm not sure exactly where the parking lot is but according to google maps it's about 9 miles from the entrance station to the lake.

I am Jacob’s mother and I’m so sick of reading incorrect information about Jake, he didn’t go there to commit suicide, he didn’t have a Mohawk at the time he went missing, the Everglades did not investigate as they should have, I was not notified until the search was over and it was by a news reporter to ask if I had a comment on my son being missing. His father failed to inform me and he didn’t show up there to look for Jacob either, had I been notified I would have been there, my son had no one to fight for him to keep his case alive. His father knew how to contact me he could have given my info to the police to contact me especially knowing he would not be there. Then he has my son’s truck picked up and sent back to TX. within a matter of days. Years later I contacted Dr. Phil and he refused to sign a paper to show Jacob’s pics on tv to help find him. His father did not have to be on tv just sign the paper, but no he couldn’t do that. The police say it’s an active case but they aren’t doing anything 11 years next month and no closer to any answers than I was from the beginning. I know what I believe.

How did this go from the Glades to Savannah is there some report of something in Savannah? Glades are full of gators as a yankee I myself would carry a gun. This young man is from TX I am not surprised that he would have a gun on him.

I am so sorry, I can feel the hurt in your words. Might I ask which agency is doing the investigation?

The Charley Project link mentions Savannah. That means someone, whether it be LE or family perhaps, provided that info.

Snip
A search of the area was conducted by park rangers and police officers using canines and helicopters.

The search was called off in September after a week without any evidence as to his whereabouts being found. The canines used in the search only found Jacob’s scent near the abandoned truck, leading investigators to believe he may have left the park in another vehicle or on foot.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Are you implying his dad had something to do with it?

On missing person cases in FL one must always factor in the weather. As a peninsula, water is a huge variant. In late Aug 2011, at the time Jacob disappeared, Hurricane Irene was approaching. Even if a hurricane does not make a direct hit to FL, but skirts the coast, there is naturally massive flooding. The Everglades could have been inundated and possibly closed right after Jacob's arrival. I don't know this was what actually happened but is it a possibility.

The search should have included air-boats because that is how you get around down there. I don't see mention of them in the article tho. Also, the temperature was in the upper 80s nearing 90 and the humidity would have been breathtaking. I agree that having a gun was a smart choice but it is possible that heat exhaustion and or dehydration was a factor. Unfortunately, remains would be hard to come by, particularly weeks later, when it sounds like they were searching. The natural environment is brutal on humans.

Just five months earlier, 67-year-old Roger Sawyer and his extended family stopped their motor home in the Flamingo District of the park in March 2011. They were on their way to visit the Florida Keys.

Sawyer’s family said the group split up for 20 minutes to stretch their legs and hike a bit. Sawyer, who they say was not affected by dementia, never returned.
