They take pics if you are using a birth certificate or new cruiser... if you use a passport, they use THAT photo now.
Does said picture or your passport photo match up with your cruise card? I can't imagine that there isn't some way to make sure that a cruise card actually belongs to a specific person. What if a passenger loses his/her card while visiting a port? Without photo confirmation, someone else could use the card to board the ship when they are not the individual to whom the card was issued.

Even before Covid shut cruise lines down for a few years, Princess had already launched their "Medallion" that tracks passengers wherever they are on the ship. The medallion comes with a lanyard, but you can purchase necklaces, wristbands, etc. if you prefer. The medallion replace a cruise card for onboard shopping, bars, casino, etc. You can even order food or drinks on the medallion phone app, and wait staff know exactly where to find you because your photo is on the medallion. I have only sailed on Princess since 2002 (20+ cruises), but I'm sure that other cruise lines have face-recognition technology in some way, shape, or form that matches up with passengers' cruise cards. random--- i used to be a partier .... if i was buzzing and turning in at 3:30 a.m., no way in heck could i make a 7:30 a.m. breakfast.
He should have been out of the cabin room by 8:30 though, even if he did not want to eat breakfast.
Seems like his brother didn’t see him in the cabin in the morning when he awoke.

Waiting for Departure
  • We kindly ask that you vacate your stateroom before 8:30am. Please double check and make sure you have removed all valuables from your stateroom safe as well as personal items from closets and drawers.
  • You may enjoy one last breakfast or relax with a cup of coffee.
    • The main dining room serves breakfast 6:30am-8:00am (open seating)
    • The lido restaurant serves breakfast 6:00am-9:00am
    • Promenade Cafe is open 6:00am-9:00am

Former longtime NCL cruiser, but I’m all in on Virgin Voyages now. They use an RFID bracelet that seemingly can locate you for things like food delivery, although I’ve never tried it

Carnival sign & sail cards when scanned bring up a picture on computer allowing whomever is using the card to be matched up to the picture on file. Someone else could not use your card

This is why I’m leaning heavily toward suicide. Then add in the wording on the missing poster. I think they were already concerned about him and when he didn’t show up at 7:30a they immediately knew something was wrong.

I realize I read your post wrong. I do agree the 7a sighting is a misunderstanding.
I am leaning the same way. I certainly hope he is found safe but I have my doubts that he will ever be found
I understand the family is under a lot of stress but I don’t agree with them plastering all over FB and insinuating that someone on Carnival caused this and calling for boycotting of the cruise line. He is /was an adult.

Does anyone find it perplexing that out of the 2000+ passengers, not to mention the 1000+ crew members that were onboard, no one, at least none that I’ve found, have come forward to speak to news media or post on social saying they remember seeing him somewhere on the ship that evening prior to him being last seen in the cabin by his brother. I really find that hard to believe. One of those people has got to want their 15 minutes of fame to be on the news or have a post or video go viral.

there is one person who filmed a longer video than is shown in the media, of him dancing in the club before he vanished....the entire video filmed by a passenger is on FB

Curious if he had a drink package. Some people drink a LOT on cruises. If he had a drink package when was the last time he scanned his card for a drink.
I'm leaning towards alcohol fueled misadventure/suicide.

That video was taken the night before he disappeared according to what I saw when it was posted and it’s in the atrium of the ship. I just wish someone official like LE or the Cruise line would come out and officially clarify all of that. So much info is floating around unofficially now that’s it’s just continued to make it all more confusing.

Is CCTV actually pretty minimal, or why didn't it film him walking around the ship at whatever time he last left his room?

With several posts saying maybe he went out onto the deck when it was deserted in the early hours, why don't they at least film the doorways out to the deck? Would they really not know whether he went out there? Seems like not very good security to me, IMO.

Sorry, what I was trying to say is the video is from Saturday night. The cruise visited Bimini on Sunday and returned to port on Monday which is when he was reported missing. But I agree, the video is definitely relevant! Carnival Conquest - September 1, 2023 - Cruise Map & Port Info

Curious if his life jacket was still in the room??
Stateroom steward would have noticed if a lifejacket was missing from KM's stateroom during thorough cleaning prior to the next cruise. I'm sure this would have been reported to ship personnel. Each stateroom is equipped with lifejackets for each passenger in that cabin. Passengers with children can request child lifejackets during embarkation if the steward has not provided them prior to sailing.

I finally found the post where the person that actually took the video posted it online. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t allowed to post screenshots directly from social media so I’m not exactly sure how to share it here. It’s on a public group page though. Could someone help me out and tell me how to do that?

Unless it’s embedded/vetted in a news article from a mainstream media site, I don’t think it can be posted.
