Even if she did leave abruptly late at night/middle of night I don't think it is super odd. She may have been desperate for money or just really lonely/looking for love. If this person she was communicating with was persuasive enough I could see her just up and leaving suddenly. Maybe he had been trying to convince her to come down there for awhile and that night all the pieces fell into place and she took him up on it. We have no idea what was going on inside her mind or how much she was struggling. Being desperate will make you do things your better judgement would tell you not to do. She is incredibly young, appears to have lacked stability in her life, and had a toddler to support. It doesn't surprise me she might make decisions that outsiders with a stable life might view as weird or risky. Now I am even more convinced she was lured down there with the promise of a stable life; whether that be totally uprooting her life and moving there permanently or just visits where she was paid to be "a date". I lean towards the former. Someone preyed on her vulnerabilities and I fear it cost Leila her life. I hope I am wrong. All jmo.
Sadly, I agree with all of this. It doesn't feel like a "date" or even a paid escort experience. I just don't think she would have taken her son with her for either of those.
This feels very much like a situation in which she had been groomed and thought there was an opportunity for long term stability, or she was there sell something or get something to sell for a good sum. Just my opinion. This whole situation makes my heart bleed for single mothers everywhere that have to put themselves at risk to attempt a stable life for their child. I hope that wherever she is she knows that Kam will be well loved and cared for.

Jumping off this post, again if there is a perp, seems he or she went through a lot of trouble to portray a certain picture, or “convince”, again if a similar scenario to the above occurred.

Someone wanted Leila, why?

1. Sexual predator
2. Get her out of the picture
3. She had something they wanted, or wanted to protect

Re: trafficking, I haven’t ruled that out either.

I think we are making a lot of assumptions here. For one, the screenshot of the phone with dating tabs open - how do we know that was even her phone? It could just as easily been the phone of a friend she borrowed to post an ad.

The alleged man she was talking to online could just as easily been a friend as a stranger. She had many friends in the Jasper and Dawsonville area, some of whom may now live in FL. Leila does not appear close to her family, so why would they know if some of her friends moved to FL in the last couple months or years? They wouldn't. So they assume it was a stranger she met online.

You get my drift. There are many, many possibilities about what lead to these events, many things about Leila we know nothing about, many things about her friends we no nothing about. It's dangerous to have tunnel vision in a world of open possibilities. jmo

True, could have been, but it was posted on her social media by her using her own FB marketplace page and her photos, by all accounts. We linked it on WS to her page.

Unless now we are proposing that her FB page was hacked?

I believe this clarifies that her vehicle was found in Hollywood, and that her last known location was possibly in the area (so not that she definitely was)

Mystery deepens as vehicle found of missing Georgia mom whose toddler son was found wandering in southern Florida

“Miramar Police received information that Leila Cavett had recently traveled to Florida from Alabama, and that her last known location was possibly in the area of Hollywood Boulevard and US 441,” Hollywood police told WPLG. “Additionally, Miramar Police located Ms. Cavett’s vehicle in Hollywood’s jurisdiction.”

For the record, Leila has 2 Facebook pages. One using her name, Leila Cavett. And, another using the name “Leila Cav-ett,” with a dash between the v and e. The latter being the most recent. She didn’t do a good job of protecting her content and many photos are in public view.

Is it unusual for the family to have to go through the courts to get custody of the child? It's such a randomly bizarre case, I'm just not sure what's normal and what's not?
No, I don't think this is unusual at all. I sure hope that no child is being thrown into some random family member's custody without any type of work being done to understand if that family member is capable of caring for a child.

@sillybilly I respectfully ask if you’ve listened to this MSM report by CBS Miami’s Ted Scouten? He says “the last known location of that woman was around Hollywood Blvd., and 441.”

Now, we’re getting into semantics, but wanted to make the point. This report was broadcast the day police jurisdictions changed from Miramar to Hollywood.

Thanks Gatherer.

Okay then, it seems we've got mixed messages from MSM reporters, so members will have to bear that in mind as the discussion goes forward.

It's been a week since little Kam was located.
I'm so worried about Leila, this is getting to be too long.
That LE has no updates, I hope it means they are on a solid trail.....
I think she knew more people in South Florida than her family knows about. The World Wide Web makes the world much smaller and helps anyone to make long distance connections—sometimes in secret. However, if you look closely some are “in plain view.”

Hopefully, local LE took the time to look closely.

Are we assuming that the local police went all-out and got her entire digital footprint (phone + apps as far as we know)?

Sounds to me like they're using more traditional methods (wait and see if anyone calls in a tip).

Gosh, yes...I was assuming that. I feel like, in this case, it's safe to assume that... at least I hope so!?

I don’t know, I’m beginning to feel local PD are weary from all the MIA reports. Leila is probably 1 of many they are looking for in Party Town, USA. Hollywood is sandwiched in between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, the two hottest party towns — really metroplex— in the world. I feel like Local LE is being lackadaisical in its efforts for Leila, or on second thought, maybe just overwhelmed by its case load. Yesterday, I went around to local restaurants and stores across the street from the Hollywood Walmart. Expecting to see notices, there were absolutely no flyers for Leila; didn’t go into Walmart though. They have a bulletin board with many MIA flyers, I’ll have to see soon if Leila’s been added. IMO

Hi, I'm new here, so forgive my "newbie" skills. I joined this group because this case is really bothering me. I'm a mom myself. The poor little boy and his young mom... what could have happened? I live in South Florida and saw the first reports on the news and was heartbroken for the family. This area is a hotspot for human trafficking and that would explain an abrupt departure and the long drive. She may have been groomed and lied to by a trafficker. I'm wondering if anyone is looking for her on escort sites?
Great first post, @mysticmo -- Thanks. You offer some very likely possibilities for this young mom -- she may have been tired, hungry, worried about caring for her son, everyone around her lovingly trying to help but perhaps it was a bit too much, and she was just in a low frame of mind and decided to just go for it. A new place with someone who sounds nice [SMH-probably not so much, but...], a new job, a new start, fill up the car with gas, and just GO.

And, one more thing,

Welcome to Websleuths,
mysticmo !!

If Leilas family told reportersthey last spoke to her about two weeks ago.”
then who did Leila talk to?
Who are her friends?
There would be someone, a friend that she talks to daily about things going on in her life, her plans, job opportunities, love interests, etc?
I would think there would be a friend that knew her plan about the Florida trip or the Florida move.

SOME people can keep things private from family AND friends. So she may not have had friends she felt like she could talk to or trust. I say that because I am that way. I don't put much trust in my family and many of my friends. I still have family and friends that LOVE me though. I just keep things to myself. Maybe she was that way. Doesn't mean she doesn't love them.

Sounds to me like she was very private and didn't tell family and friends many things. Doesn't make her a bad person though.

I will admit I have naive over the years and put MORE trust in boyfriends, etc. Wondering if that is the way she is too instead of putting trust in family and friends? Don't know. Just speculation. MOO

LE might be quietly but dutifully following a cctv trail of LC's movements, assuming that must take a fair bit of time, imo.
UPDATED: Police Find Vehicle, Video in Missing Mother's Case in Miramar - 850 WFTL
''Detectives have confirmed they have surveillance video but are not releasing the footage at this point because they are still working the case.''
IYO Where do you think the surveillance video is from? The city’s CCTV or Walmart or FLDOT, could be all I guess. Walmart would take a subpoena, though, right?
