Just thankful. I thank God I have my little boy,” the Luke's mother, Christa Finch, said Tuesday evening. “It’s absolutely a miracle.”

Christa Finch, was very emotional as she took her 3-year-old boy into her arms and held him, brushing back his hair as she sobbed.

“He didn’t really say anything. His eyes just teared up. I think I just said. ‘I love you and I miss you,’” she said. “I don’t know if he understands to the full extent [what happened.] … I guess we’ll see."

The father and son were found 140 miles off the coast of Fort Myers in the father’s 32-foot sailboat and the Coast Guard said the father surrendered peacefully.

“I think he was going to take him to another country and never come back,” Christa Finch said Tuesday evening.

"Thank you, God, for finding my boy,” she said Tuesday.

The courts should really take a gI can not help but get the feeling this father had little interest in his son, but rather claimed he had bonded with the child as a load of crap to put revenge into play to take what this mother loved most. I have a feeling this guy is far more interested in retaliation against his ex than he is his son.

You just summed up parental kidnapping in a nutshell.

More details here on how the sailboat was located & monitored -- Wow-- LE & the USCG worked their tails off!

Finding dad, son on boat took massive, coordinated effort

ST. PETERSBURG - Once dispatched, a U.S. Coast Guard C-130 airplane began combing a 22,000-square-mile area in the Gulf of Mexico Monday, looking for a sailboat piloted by a man accused of kidnapping his young son.

The 32-foot Bristol sailboat had been painted battleship gray, perhaps to avoid detection. But technology often is colorblind. The vessel popped up on C-130's radar at 5 p.m., at the southernmost edge of the search grid.

A second Coast Guard Cutter, the Kodiak Island, began towing the sailboat after boarding it. It sank on its way to the Coast Guard station. There are no plans to recover it.

Paul Martikainen is now in FBI custody. Wednesday, will face a federal magistrate on federal charges of kidnapping.:gavel::woohoo:

It truly is a miracle that Luke was found when he was!

At 3:32 in this video it is stated that the sailboat Luke was on actually sunk when they were towing it in!!!

Angels & Lord above were truly watching over this little guy!

ETA: Justiz I didn't refresh the page. Found your post after I posted, still a miracle huh?

I hope the FBI makes sure Martikainen is "sunk"....that guy sounds like trouble waiting to happen for the next woman who comes along, IMO.

Looks like mom and child are not out of the woods.

Paul Martikainen only faces 3 years in jail. With his history of getting charges dismissed and sentences adjudicated, looks like mom and child will always have to worry.

Paul M also asked to be transferred to Orlando. From reviewing other court info, it looks like he frequently asks for whatever he can get. The Palm Beach felony case shown a request to be able to use a gym, shortly before he violated terms in that case too. Hope they don't ignore his prior history of multiple failures to appear in court.

Martikainen faces up to three years in prison, a $250,000 fine and supervised release for a year if he is convicted.

:banghead: 3 years...Is that all?

Father Who Took Son Faces Hearings In Federal Court

Martikainen, 35, of Palm Bay appeared in U.S. District in Tampa Wednesday and waived all hearings until U.S. Marshals bring him to Orlando, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

During the next day or so, Martikainen will be moved to Orlando for three proceedings in federal court. He will be brought to a first appearance hearing where he is read the charges he faces. In another proceeding, court officials will decide if he should be detained in jail.

Finally, there will be an arraignment where he will have the opportunity to enter a plea of not guilty or guilty. The rest of the proceedings, including a trial, will be held in Orlando.

With a rap sheet as long as this guys 3 measly years? What kind of repercussion is that? :furious: Absolutely no deterent whatsoever to prevent this guy from attempting to abduct this child again.

I can only hope he faces additional charges? Child endangerment for one.

"As a friend, I was very disappointed that he would choose to do something so foolish. It's so wrong what he did . . . but I understand the desperateness behind it all I think," Rumble said. "He's very, very discouraged with the custody issues. And I think he let that discouragement take over his sensibility. He wanted to be with his child."

The above is a statement from the appointed visitation supervisor. Imo, he should have left his mouth shut. I am SO SICK of hearing this type of whiny excuse with custody battles. The SENSIBLE statement, would be this guy is INCAPABLE of following court orders, the courts procedures to demonstrate he is NOT A DANGER TO HIS CHILD.

If he only gets 3 years, I hope the courts are sensible enough to terminate his parental rights ( and recognize he was willing to do so voluntarily when negotiating his divorce), and this mother and son move away and change their names. No mother and child should have to endure this kind of fear from a maniac like this man. :furious:

MOO

Martikainen befriended Rumble when his child custody issues began. Investigators believe that Martikainen intentionally chose Rumble with the idea that he would gain Rumble’s trust.

....

Asked if he felt bad about abducting the boy, the cuffed Martikainen said only: "Nope."

Sooo - Mr. Rumble was set up from the get-go....wonder how he feels about being used? He's another victim, IMO, of Martikainen's scheming obsession to get what he wants - which I still am not convinced it's Luke, but knowing he can bring mental & emotional pain & anguish to his ex-wife.

And Martikainen admitting no remorse to taking his little son into the Gulf of Mexico on a boat (and from what we know not even a shakedown cruise prior) - which friggin' *sank* -- and all he may get is 3 yrs??

Sounds to me like he'll never let this go....Luke's mom is lucky to be alive - let's hope it stays that way.

And hopefully Mr. Rumble is not allowed to be the sucker in another custody case.

I did some checking on Bob Rumble earlier this week and saw he works for Brevard County Courts/Viera office. Makes sense that Paul picked him to befriend; terrifying to realize the extent of his plan.

Paul's Adjudication Withheld plea to the recent Felony Child Abuse case will now be withdrawn and he can be found guilty.

I'm going to keep following this case as this may a perfect example of an unbalanced man who's life mission is to terrorize his former wife.

:banghead: 3 years...Is that all?

That's a lot for a parental kidnapping case. More often the sentence is in months, or even more often no sentence at all.

I don't like it either, but after seeing it dozens of times I'm used to it. Right now I'm just glad Luke was found quickly and safely.
