My in-laws used to drive an Impala when they first moved to Florida, but I think it was a more recent vintage. 1976 maybe.

The Impala came in both convertible (soft-top) and hardtop models. This is the hardtop--made to look like a convertible with the top up, but basically just a sedan with no doorpost between driver and passenger doors (if four-door) or just the window if it's a two-door hardtop, the most common kind. This one is the wrong color but it gives a good idea of the lines: https://images.app.goo.gl/HNy5o1gDSypmb4Jx

In my experience, if Marjorie's car was a convertible, they would have said so. Convertibles always were relatively uncommon. They don't say whether two-door or four-door, but the two-door was more common.

And my guess is that while she was sitting in the parking lot, she accidentally knocked the car into gear (maybe while trying to get out so she didn't get sick in the car) and it drove right across the highway into the water.

added: I don't see anything in the pictures of the Lake Michigan car that would tell me it's not the car the Wilsons were driving.

1973 Chevrolet Impala

Style Sedan
Color Cream/Ivory
State Florida
License Plate 8W-3270
Expiration Year 1973

Nowhere a brown top mentioned.....uhhhh... Cream/Ivory I wouldn't associate with yellowish.....but that's me...
Me either. I drove an Impala when I was about 17 or so. It was yellowy beige color with a hard top and beige interior. It was a big car and I didn’t particularly care for it. My step-dad sold it.

Probably unrelated, but a 1973 Chevrolet Impala was found in a Michigan lake last week: No human remains found in sunken car in Morrow Lake
Hard to tell what color it was originally:

Funny this says Lake Monroe Inn which is in Sanford, FL on 1792 which is on the other side of the Lake from Deltona.

This car was found in Michigan, not FL. But maybe I'm misunderstanding your comment?

Child of the 70s here. There is a difference in a convertible and a vinyl top. Vinyl tops were very popular back then. It was a regular hard top car that had vinyl glued to the top of the car and chrome trim around the edges.

If -hypothetically- nothing happened to her and she decided to leave her old life, it's almost certain she is deceased by now. She was born in 1910, so she would be 11o yrs in 2020.

Sorry, the story says she was missing from Deltona. Although she may have resided in Deltona, Lake Monroe Inn is in Sanford right on the edge of Lake Monroe. She actually would have been missing from Sanford FL.

There is great underwater technology that boaters/fishermen can see and search underwater, maybe try searching again? Also, it mentioned the car had half a tank of gas and the ocean would have been about 30-40 minutes away.

I believe I found the area of the place where they were eating and maybe what the parking area may have looked like.

It looks like the car in MI was a 67'.

I hate that there is not many information about the guy who robbed two other men in the area, all it said was a suspect had been arrested, but didn't mention if he was in jail on Dec 4th.

Back then the road was two single lanes right at the edge of the water. What you see on Google maps is the modern version of the road. If she drove into the lake it's deep with a seawall. No shore. A grassy edge but no sloping entry to the water. Sanford was a seedy area to be in at night back in the day.
