GUILTY FL - Mason Rhinehart, 6, stabbed to death, Tallahassee, 5 Aug 2014

Seven year old Mason Rhinehart was stabbed to death in his home in Tallahassee this morning. He was reported to have multiple chest wounds. His grandmother Martha White, 63, is accused of killing him. She was found at a nearby park, taken into custody & transported to hospital.

"I still can't believe it," neighbor Heather Falls said.
Heather Falls lives right across the street. She says Mason's brother stunned her when he told her the grandmother did it.
"'I know she killed him," he told Falls. "She pulled a wine bottle out' and then I couldn't understand anything else he said."
LCSO Spokesman James McQuaig says when Martha White is released from the hospital, she'll be charged with murder.

I've looked around news comments & social media & was surprised to find I know or know of some his mother's family. White is the step-father's mother. I have not seen any speculation about what may have caused the woman to kill the boy.

Is it a mental hospital? I hope so.

No new information this morning. The hospital listed is not a mental facility but has a ward for guarded patients. She did not "appear" to be injured. Is it SOP to do a psych evaluation immediately? There must have been some indication for medical treatment.... other than she had just brutally killed a child.

Deputies say Martha White stabbed her grandson Mason Rhinehart, multiple times in his chest. A motive is still unclear, however deputies say White was alone with Rhinehart at the time of the attack. After medical evaluation, she is expected to be taken to the Leon County Sheriff's Office and charged with the little boy's death.

White, 63, who had been babysitting the boys, then took Mason into the home's bathroom and locked the door behind her, a probable cause affidavit said. Mason's brother heard him start to cry from behind the door and say, "I don't want to die, please don't kill me." The boy said he tried to get in the bathroom, but could not. This account differs from previous "she was alone with Mason" . Both children were at home & she took Mason with her into the locked bathroom.

That poor little guy. It's his birthday tomorrow - he deserved to have his 7th birthday, play video games with his brother, and feel safe in his GRANDMOTHER'S home.

When I read that quote: "I don't want to die, please don't kill me." My fingers curl up into little balls of rage. It makes me SO MAD. Instead of punching a pillow, I'm going to snuggle up with my 8 year old son and play a video game with him, and pray for all the little kids out there with mentally ill and/or abusive family members.

That poor boy. Makes me physically sick, what "family" can do.

White's husband had died and she was obsessed with Zack. He was "all she had," Williams said. Zack would often care for her and handle her yard work. Her relationship with Spring, however, was rocky, particularly in the beginning of Zack's courtship of her. Despite that, Williams said Spring decided early on in the relationship to be kind to White.

White, Willaims said, suffered from anxiety and was often skittish and antisocial.

Since March, the Tallahassee Police Department had been called out five times to White's home on Marys Drive, off of Mahan Drive just east of Magnolia Drive. On March 30, White said two of her neighbors were drilling holes in her walls and dropping bugs inside her house, according to TPD dispatch notes. Police contacted one of the neighbors who said White had been making the same complaint since they moved in. White claimed her neighbors were hiding the evidence, the report said.

Recently, Williams said, White was becoming more friendly and would babysit the boys twice a week while their parents were at work.

I bet that is a big fat lie. If anyone was being tortured, it was probably the daughter being tortured by this vicious monster. Anyone that could stab their precious 6 yr old grandson to death, after telling him she had a surprise...is a . :furious:

Re Zack White, little Mason's father and son of the accused,
"He says he's done with her and never wants to see her again."

So sad, sad, sad. RIP Mason.
