What were these people trying to protect? I'm not buying that this was about custody of a child. If that were the case, I can't see other people participating. I'm thinking that they wanted to shut up Nicole because she had knowledge of something. They saw her as a threat.

Husband Christopher Otero-Rivera, 31, and his father Angel Luis Rivera, 63, were arrested on Friday on unrelated charges of probation violation and violation of domestic injunction, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, respectively.

Following the positive identification of the remains found in Rivera's backyard as those belonging to Montalvo on Sunday, the man and his son were each charged with premeditated murder and ordered held without bond.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, at the time of Montalvo's disappearance and subsequent death, she and her husband were in the midst of a separation.

[...]

Just weeks before her death, Montalvo sent a letter to a judge asking to dismiss a protection order she had against Otero-Rivera, saying that it was in the best interest of their son.

According to social media posts, Montalvo worked as a server at a pizza parlor in Kissimmee, Florida.

The night before, Montalvo was last seen dropping the boy off with Otero-River and his parents...

ETA: I believe the photo is defendant and victim. Sure appears this was premeditated trap for NM.

He got her to ask judge to lift the protection order-- only to draw her in with her guard down.

"Otero-Rivera appeared before an Osceola County judge Monday afternoon on premeditated murder charges. He was represented by a public defender and ordered held without bail.

Luis Rivera will not appear before a judge on first-degree murder charges Monday because he was hospitalized over the weekend, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Officials declined to provide information on Luis Rivera's condition due to federal health privacy laws.

On Sunday, Sheriff Russ Gibson said more arrests could be coming.
His next court appearance is Nov. 5.

Montalvo's twin brother, Edward Montalvo, said the family is planning a vigil for his sister Monday at the St. Cloud Lakefront at 7 p.m. Participants are asked to wear black or purple in remembrance of Montalvo and those affected by domestic abuse.

"All are invited to attend," Edward Montalvo said in a message. "We are asking any persons who have shared any memories with my twin to bring their stories and share their experiences with a community that has been touched by her liveliness. "

Full Briefing from the Sheriff - Very Strong Words that ALL involved with this murder will be found and prosecuted:

Excellent comments from the Sheriff -- he sounds like a serious, no-fooling-around guy which is exactly what Nicole, her son, family, friends and certainly the offenders deserve.
More power to them. Prayers for Nicole's son and her family and for LE and all the others who were/are involved and seeking justice.

It works if you just paste in: https://courts.osceolaclerk.com/BenchmarkWeb/CourtCase.aspx

Then put in the last name, first name. They have a stupid CAPTCHA thing, but click on the answers and "I am not a robot" and - as long as the name is in the top part still (retype it in if it disappeared), it works.
Thank you - I should remember to post that all the FL clerks of the court have a verification against bots so you have to verify

Verification against bots is good, and very important, but some CAPTCHAs are better than others. I had to click on one 3 times because I wasn't sure if they meant 'streetlights' were just the light parts on the end of the pole, or the entire streetlight, lol... turns out they meant on the end of the pole. It's funny if you're not in a hurry!

It surely does work! A big thank-you. :D

Not such pretty info there, is it? Looks like she did all she knew to do. Typically, it didn't help much. We lose so many women this way, and the trail of destruction from that point never stops. Never stops.

And thanks also, @oviedo for the reference to the site! :)

Exactly. She did what they requested. And they continued to endanger her life, as well as the life of her son, by forcing her to not only continue to see him in court, but to allow him access to her son (and thereby, to her).

It will keep happening until the courts start valuing the lives of women, and start punishing abusers by stopping all visitation until major changes have been made. That would cut down these situations drastically, if they WANT TO DO SO.

He wore her down, he tricked her, he murdered her.

Wow -- learning Eddie is Nicole's twin brother. So heartbreaking. :(
Wow -- twins -- a truly special bond. I'm sure Nicole took part of his heart with her. Yes, one more big heart-breaker.
Hoping that her son and her twin brother are, or will become, special buddies -- they both need each other, I am sure.

So sad. Ex husband. Reminds me of Susan Powell.
