Palm Beach), (Victor Vocter, (10) injured; had acid thrown on him; he was released from hospital 3/2/11) – *Jorge L. Barahona (43/now 50) (adopted father) arrested & charged (2/12/11) with 8 felony counts of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm, 8 felony counts of child neglect & attempted murder (Victor) & charged (3/7/11) with 1st degree murder. Plead not guilty. $1M bond. DA will seek DP.
*Carmen V. Barahona (60/now 67) (adopted mom) arrested & charged (3/6/11) & indicted (3/23/11) with 1st degree murder, 8 felony counts of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm & 8 felony counts of child neglect with no bodily harm. Plead not guilty. No bond. DA will seek DP.

No, that is a "trial hearing", no witnesses, no jury, just a judge, and the attorneys, presenting the facts of the case. This is probably the plea deal. I bet that Barahona is getting his wish, no death penalty. And the state won't have to reveal the details of the CPS system investigation.

I could place a FOIA request, to see how much money the state has already paid for the defense of this monster. It is no doubt much more money than was ever spent by CPS on Nubia.

In March 2020, it will be over nine years since Jorge Barahona killed Nubia. There has not been a trial date.

What is the problem here? This would be an excellent opportunity for a journalist to do an article expose about why this particular case has been dragging for so long...can anyone else think of another case that has dragged out for an excess of NINE years without a trial date?

Carmen Barahona pleads guilty, agrees to testify against husband in death of adopted daughter

Finally. It only took 9 years for her to admit that her husband is a monster.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The man accused of torturing and killing his adopted daughter was back in court Wednesday morning.

During the proceeding, the defense for Jorge Barahona, 52, asked the judge to delay the start of his trial due to his wife taking a plea deal in which she agreed to testify against him. Carmen Barahona, 69, will receive a life prison sentence in exchange for her testimony.

Jorge Barahona faces the death penalty if convicted in Nubia’s death.

The judge did not set a trial date and Barahona is expected back in court next month.
