I wish they would have put an more accurate location. Jacksonville is huge. There’s probably dozens of laundry mats. Plus if he was living in an apartment building, it could have been a laundry room on site. A neighbor could have snatched him.
 
My question is-why is a a14 year old "going out to do laundry"? Who did he live with, what was his home life like and was the area dangerous?
understandable question. i can think of a few reasons and these are just possibilities....

1. parents with many kids - perhaps jr was oldest or oldest boy. perhaps he simply got his hw done first that night so got first big chore.
2. he could've fibbed the way teens do to go out and do something else - take bag of clothes, say the machine was "broken", whatever.
3. punishment from parents - a possibility
4. trying to show parents he was responsible enough to take care of himself
5. neglectful parents
6. laundering clothes in order to have clean clothes to run away in
