It would make sense that this guy was a very young veteran. Maybe discharged or had finished his tour. Maybe unemployed and didn’t have a family.

Doesn’t each veteran have their photo taken? Even in the mid 80’s there should have been records and photos in military files.
 
It would seem there would be more info on his physical description based on the remains being current. It is difficult to match him to any UID without more info. No mention of dentals or DNA.
 
I agree, there must be more descriptors available. He apparently had long-ish head hair and some facial hair.

Somewhere I read that the train went 29 box cars before it stopped. I wonder if that amount of movement caused enough damage that more desriptors were not available.

I thought of that too but they surely would have spoke to others in the homeless camp? If anyone knew of him or maybe he had a nickname, I would think they could describe him better. Maybe not tho.
