Doe Network case 1321UMFL (can someone link it for me, mine didn't come out right)

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1321umfl.html

The victim was discovered on October 10, 1980 in St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida

Vital Statistics

  • Estimated age: 11-20 years old
  • Approximate Height and Weight: 5'6"; 125 lbs.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: Light brown, neck length hair; Possibly brown eyes. Clean shaven.
  • Clothing: New "Sears" blue jeans; dark rust colored jockey underwear; white socks.

Case History
The victim was found floating near Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg, Florida on October 10, 1980.

11 to 20 is a regrettably wide age range. The reconstruction pics clearly favour an older-teen age range.

ETA: There seems to be no info available anywhere on the state of the remains when found and how long since death, etc. They couldn't even tell for sure what colour his eyes were.

It's incredibly sad when no one claims the remains of a child! Is there seriously no missing person report that fits this boy that couldn't be found in the past 30 years?

Would be about 5 years too old and would have had to have been held somewhere for years. The others are long shots too, though, so anything is possible.

Geographical and time long shot.

Long shot due to time missing, but if he did run away from home, it wouldn't be odd for a boy from IL to run away to FL.

I think Derran has a bit of resemblance.

A little resemblance here too.

FL connection.

Timeframe is right and there is a physical resemblance.

This guy is also in namus, with a listing of about 1 day since death and a recognizable face.

Sorry about the marathon post, but i can be a little obsessive sometimes.

The age range has changed, he's estimated to be 15-25 years old according to the Doe page now so five years too old for 11-20 might work for 15-25.

The Doe is not DMCA2352 who used to be Perry Nickerson. He was found safe 30 years after his disappearance.

According to NAMUS: "Had been in the water an estimated 18 - 24 hours. No apparent trauma." NAMUS also indicates what they describe as fine hairs on the upper lip, so it sounds like either his beard hadn't come in yet, or he was either only lightly bearded.

Poor guy. He looks a lot like somebody my daughter dated back when she was in high school.

This young man is so recognizable that I have to wonder if he was a known death where the body was never found. Perhaps he was a drowning victim or involved in a boating accident. I searched to see if FL had any public records on these types of incidents and was surprised to find the bridge where he was found had partially collapsed five months earlier. Sunshine Skyway Bridge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia There were two major accidents in 1980. I don't suppose he could have been a victim from either because the medical examiner believed he was dead less than 24 hours, but it makes me wonder even more about this young man. Was the bridge was even open for auto traffic when he was found? Off to sleuth some more.

I've been digging through area papers on Google News for the last hour and a half-- I am thinking it's really strange that I haven't been able to find ANY mentions of our UID. Maybe he was never identified because this wasn't publicized in the local media? There are dozens of articles about other UIDs... and I'm turning up nothing about this one.

It also seems strange that missing/unidentified bridge suicide victims is such a common problem for LE in this area, yet that wasn't mentioned in any of this Doe's documentation. (You'd think they'd at least note whether he was/wasn't a probable suicide, if a car was found, if someone saw a person jump around that time...)

I have a difficult time finding information on UIDs quite often. :(

Thank you, Kimster. I just had really high hopes when the location and time period had so much news archived freely online, and it turned up nothing new.

I messaged the owner of the bridge website, just in case he was aware of anything fitting this incident, and he was kind enough to respond-- no matches. I promise I'll stop threadsitting now!!

There's so I little to go on with this one! Brown hair, eyes, no distinguishing features... I wonder how they determined 15 as their lower bracket. With his height, weight, and the fact that it sounds like they are describing peach fuzz on his upper lip, he seems like he could be younger. I wish there was a postmortem picture.

Thank you for merging the threads, spent two days looking for this young man. Sent Brian Page to Pinellas ME.

They didn't list a COD (or did I miss it?) but they do state no apparent trauma. Based on that, I don't think our UID was a jumper. There would be a LOT of trauma from hitting the water from that height.

No shirt and no shoes, but long pants and socks...could he have been fishing and his shoes got lost once in the water? I checked the weather, and it was quite pleasant - in the 80s during the day and 70 at night.... no need for a jacket, at least.

Run away? In those days, didn't they purge the records of runaways when they aged into adulthood?

Heard back and UID has no scar on arm as Brian does, so should be ruled out.

I wonder how scars appear after being submerged?

Also I wonder how big the scar was that was on Brian's arm?

Just thinking out loud...I wish there were better ways to rule someone out other than a scar!
