TEEN MISSING AFTER POSSIBLE GATOR ATTACK: 'IT BIT ME, IT BIT ME'

Authorities in Orange County, Florida, are searching for a 15-year-old who was reportedly dragged into a local pond by an alligator on Wednesday.

"We received a report of a missing 15-year-old boy near Salem Dr and Marietta St in Orlando. We, along with partner agencies including @OCFireRescue and @OrangeCoSheriff are on scene and actively searching a water body. Updates will be provided as info becomes available," the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission tweeted.

Jeff Williamson, a spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, said deputies received a call from a witness about a man flailing his arms in the water, the Orlando Sentinel reported. During a press conference, Williamson said the person who made the 911 call heard shouts from the water saying, "It bit me, it bit me."

'It bit me!' Search continues for missing Orange County teen

[...]

Orange County Sheriff's Office public information officer Jeff Williamson said a man who lives in the area was in his backyard and thought he saw something in the water, about 20-30 yards from the bank.

The man ran inside to grab his binoculars and saw a teenage boy flailing in the pond while yelling, "It bit me! It bit me!" Williamson said, describing the witness as credible and cooperative.

Officials said neighbors have reported seeing a 6-foot alligator in the pond in the past.

FWC Officer Chad Weber said it's not clear at this point if an alligator was involved in the boy's disappearance. He said the agency is treating the incident as a case of a missing person and possible drowning.

Crews will continue to search the pond until the boy is found or until the sheriff calls the search off.

If the teen wasn't id'd how do they know he was 15? Or is that just an estimate?

Officials asked residents if they knew of any teenage boys reported missing but were unable to identify the boy involved, WKMG reported.

Tragic - I heard about this at lunchtime - and it is gator mating season (April - June) in Florida

Good Lord I can barely even contemplate this! I remember so well the little two year old at Disney World and this just makes my stomach turn...

I'm hoping this isn't a prank. Although a part of me hopes it is.

Authorities say a six-foot alligator was found during a search of the pond — too small to inflict serious damage on a human.

David Gensler, who said he has lived in the neighborhood for 10 years, said people often fish for catfish in the pond. He said he’s seen an alligator he estimates to be at least 15-feet long.

“It’s bigger than my little John boat,” he said.

bbm

I have trouble believing 15 feet is accurate.

I am hoping this is a prank, and that no teenager was bitten and then went underwater.
:please:

I would think if someone got bit by an alligator it would be more likely that the person would scream “help!” or just plain scream. Rather than saying, “It bit me!”

But that was just my thought when I saw the news reports earlier today.
