Florida Megachurch Pastor Arrested After Holding Crowded Service In Defiance Of Rules | HuffPost
I saw this story earlier as we probably all did, but didn't read the whole article and missed this aspect:

Howard-Browne had bragged that his church had special equipment to kill viruses. “If somebody walks in the door, it’s like it kills everything on them. If they sneeze, it shoots it down at like 100 mph, it’ll neutralize it in split-seconds,” he said last week.

Florida:

The confirmed case count of COVID-19 in Florida has jumped by 231, according to a state update on Monday evening. Miami-Dade accounted for 69 cases, or about one-third, of the latest confirmed increase.

The state, with 5,704 confirmed cases (5,489 residents) as of 6 p.m. Monday, also said there were eight new deaths for a total of 71. One of those was in Miami-Dade County, another in Broward County and two in Palm Beach County. The other deaths were in Citrus, Clay, Duval and Osceola counties.”

“Florida currently has just 63 coronavirus deaths, but a disturbing new analysis predicts the death toll will rise to 6,766 by Aug. 4.

The analysis by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington under the direction of professor Chris Murray also predicts that Florida will face a peak shortage of 843 intensive care unit hospital beds.

The need for ICU beds will peak on May 3 in Florida, according to the report. The state will need 2,538 beds on that day, but only 1,695 will be available.”

“The fate of the Holland America’s Zaandam cruise ship has stirred plenty of chatter in coronavirus-battered South Florida. With four dead passengers and hundreds of passengers and crew members reporting flu-like symptoms, the cruise ship is heading to Port Everglades and seeking permission to dock. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has said he doesn’t want the ship to dock in South Florida because the coronavirus is already overwhelming doctors with an influx of ill patients. Others see it as a moral issue, saying the community cannot turn its back to people in need.

Here’s a sampling of the many Letters to the Editor the South Florida Sun Sentinel has received on the fate of the Holland Americ cruise ship.”

Florida docking plan in the works for ill-fated cruise ships

Passengers from an ill-fated Holland America Zaandam and Rotterdam ships from a South American cruise are anxious to disembark once they reach Florida, but Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state's health care resources are already stretched too thin to take on another ship's coronavirus caseload.

The U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday that the decision would be punted to Washington if authorities can't agree.

Trump plans to intervene on allowing Holland America cruise ships to dock in Florida

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is going to speak with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis about whether to allow two Holland America cruise ships, one with four dead and 200 passengers and crew having had flu-like symptoms, to dock.

While never explicitly saying what he plans to tell DeSantis, who has raised concerns about allowing the ships into port, Trump said, "I am going to do what is right, not only for us but for humanity."

Gov. Ron DeSantis has refused to issue a statewide “stay-at-home” order to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus because the disease has not hit many areas of the state, he said.

At least 30 states have issued statewide stay-at-home orders so far. Florida, among eight states with the highest number of COVID-19 cases, is the only one without such an order.

DeSantis’ approach in trying to manage the disease without doing undue harm to the economy mirrors comments from President Donald Trump who, on Monday reiterated his belief that a nationwide stay-at-home order is not needed.

But as the outbreak marches across the country, public health officials stress that the lack of testing is masking the true picture of the epidemic, a situation that they argue is playing out in Florida.

The testing center at the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches has been overwhelmed, county officials said Wednesday morning. While it has scheduled 2,000 appointments through Saturday, no more will be booked until additional testing kits are available.

Having received more than 350,000 calls, the hotline for appointments has been closed. It will be reopened Thursday if kits became available.

The southern part of the county, where Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday said he planned to establish a second testing site, continues to be hard hit.

No additional details were available about plans to establish a testing center in south county. Pointing out the area has one of the highest concentrations of elderly in the state, state Rep. Emily Slosberg, D-Delray Beach, has been urging DeSantis to establish such a site.

Nearly a dozen retirement communities have alerted residents that their neighbors have been stricken with the highly contagious virus that is now being treated experimentally with drugs used to combat malaria.

Florida Govenor says state will take Florida residents ONLY from Zaandam cruise ship

Gov. Ron DeSantis his state was willing to accept Floridians on board a cruise ship seeking to disembark in Florida after more than 190 guests and crew reported flu-like symptoms, including eight passengers who tested positive.

"We are going to be willing to accept Floridians on board," he told reporters. "My understanding is most of the passengers are foreign nationals."

At least 49 Floridians are aboard Holland America's Zaandam cruise ship.

Zaandam cruise coming to South Florida Thursday. Sick passengers will go to Broward Health.

Passengers and crew on both ships describe a desperate situation. A woman from Sarasota, Glorida Weed, 70, on the Zaandam, has had a fever for more than a week, and her husband, Bill, 75, is no longer able to swallow.

A Central Florida couple on the Rotterdam, Laura and Juan Gabaroni Huergo, both 48, have not been able to breathe fresh air in several days inside their cabin.

“It can feel like the walls are closing in at times, and it’s starting to wear on us,” Laura said.
