“I’m issuing an executive order directing all Floridians to limit movements and personal interactions outside the home to only those necessary and essential activities," the governor said.

He did not order the closure of any beaches, which left leaders in Volusia and Brevard counties to consult their legal advisors.

“The order doesn’t specifically say any of that is shut down," said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey. "We’re going to find out just how far the order extends.”

The ships are in. Although the cruise line said 10 needed hospitalization, there were 14. It will take until Saturday to disembark all. The 4 dead passengers are on the boat’s morgue waiting for info on where to ship.

‘We are excited to be home’: Cruise ships dock at Port Everglades despite coronavirus concerns

From governor...
“Just so people understand, there’s probably 25 of these ships out there. Two of them, these two, have U.S. citizens on board,” he said. “We have an interest in making sure those folks come safely. Some of these other ships are all foreign nationals, that’s something that would be difficult to accommodate in Florida given what we’re facing in South Florida.”

Floridians - you may like to look into this ...

As reported by Hong Kong Apple Daily, a Chinese American woman was filling up trolleys of 3M masks at shops in Florida, for selling them to China. She bragged on Chinese social media that those shops were not aware of sales limits, and that she took them all not leaving one for Americans.

Now another infected ship headed to Florida...

The ship is headed to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where two Holland America ships, the MS Rotterdam and MS Zaandam, also hope to dock. Between those two ships, 233 people have reported flu-like symptoms.

Coronavirus: Coral Princess headed to Florida with COVID-19 on board

A dozen passengers on the Coral Princess have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Coral Princess is estimated to arrive in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. It is unclear whether the line has received permission to dock in Florida.

CruiseMapper showed the ship to be off the coast of the Dominican Republic on Thursday afternoon. According to the cruise-tracking site, the Coral Princess is in the midst of a 32-day one-way cruise from San Antonio, Chile, to Fort Lauderdale where it was originally meant to end on April 6. It departed on March 5.

Fort Lauderdale Coronavirus: Healthy Passengers Aboard Zaandam, Rotterdam Ships To Begin Journey Home

Wrapped in sheets and barely moving, sick passengers from Holland America’s Zaandam cruise ship were rushed to local hospitals on Thursday.

The Zaandam, which had confirmed cases of coronavirus on board, and its sister ship Rotterdam were allowed to dock at Port Everglades after days of negotiations with the US Coast Guard and local authorities, many of whom didn’t want an influx of more sick people into already-overwhelmed hospitals.

First responders removed more than a dozen sick passengers from the ships and ferried them to a nearby hospital while limos lined up waiting to take healthy South Florida passengers home and workers sanitized countless pieces of luggage before passengers took it home.

At this point, 13 passengers who are seriously have been taken to Broward Health Medical Center or Larkin Community Hospital. Another 26 passengers who have mild symptoms will remain on board to be treated and quarantined. Crew members will remain on the vessels. There are 4 patients onboard the Zaandam who died.

All passengers coming off the ship will wear masks and have their temperature taken. Healthy passengers who are flying will be driven directly to the tarmac and will directly board charter planes. Officials say the passengers will not go into the airport and all passengers are being told to self-quarantine for 14 days after returning home.

More ships lining up...

A crew member on Royal Caribbean's Celebrity Infinity cruise ship has died, while two others on the Oasis of the Seas were evacuated for medical reasons, the company said Friday.

The Miami-based cruise line didn't give any other info on the crew members.

As of Friday, the Infinity was waiting off Florida’s west coast, and the Oasis of the Seas was positioned off Broward County’s shores.

Florida coronavirus deaths are higher than numbers in official reports

Florida’s death count from COVID-19 likely stands significantly higher than the official number, indicating the disease is taking a more severe toll than thought, according to interviews with experts and information from local officials.

The latest projection shows about 175 Floridians will die a day at the epidemic’s peak on May 5, reaching a total of 6,897 deaths by August. The Washington model is considered conservative because it assumes people will slow the spread of the virus by fully complying with social-distancing measures.

___

I don't believe Florida is fully complying with social-distancing so the deaths by August will be much higher. MOO!

Florida agriculture commissioner says Gov. DeSantis is ‘failing to lead’ during coronavirus pandemic

Florida Agriculture Commissioner “Nikki” Fried issued a statement on Friday stating that Gov. Ron DeSantis is “failing to lead” during the coronavirus pandemic.

Read a portion of her statement below:

“Florida needs leadership now more than ever, but Governor DeSantis is failing to lead. His safer-at-home order is filled with glaring loopholes as the details emerge. He quietly issued a second executive order that weakens stay-at-home restrictions, allowing mass gatherings on beaches and in religious institutions, creating enormous confusion for local officials, and putting Floridians and businesses further at risk after weeks of inaction.”

Port Canaveral (Orlando) announced Friday that it is furloughing its employees who are dedicated to the port’s cruise operations through May 30, pending when cruise lines resume operations at the port.

As Florida’s coronavirus cases surged past 10,200 with 170 deaths, new data paints a bleak portrait for hospitals: 60 percent of the state’s 6,000 ICU beds are already taken while there’s still about a month before experts say cases will peak here.

The state tallied more than 1,000 new confirmed cases and nearly 30 deaths on Friday. The health department updates case numbers daily at about 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Seminole County will start issuing fines to residents who tested positive for coronavirus who leave their homes. This order came after it was discovered at least five people who have a positive diagnosis had left their home to get groceries or run errands.

Drive-through testing near the Orange County Convention Center was made available to more people this week, but on Friday, the site had reached capacity by 9:07 a.m. Workers are continuing to test throughout the day, but won’t accept new patients until Saturday morning. The site is open daily.

Coronavirus testing site to open at UCF on Monday
A drive-through site will open at UCF on Monday, April 6 for members of the community by appointment only. Individuals must have an appointment in order to receive a test, which will be administered in UCF’s Garage A, located at 12491 University Boulevard, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (appointments may end before 5 p.m. if the daily appointments are filled earlier). Those who do not have an appointment will be turned away. To secure an appointment and have a test ordered for them, individuals must contact Aventus by calling 855-282-4860.

Brevard County beaches remain open, but county leaders have shut the door on out-of-town tourists looking to take advantage as the state begins living under a stay-at-home order. Even if people do make it to Brevard beaches, cities in the county have enacted strict usage limits to comply with the state order.

Beginning April 3, the cities of Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Indian Harbour Beach, Indialantic, and Melbourne Beach will be closed except for walking, jogging, biking, fishing, surfing and swimming until April 30, 2020.

Not allowed will be sunbathing, sitting in chairs, organized sports or lying on blankets. Also, the cities said people will not be allowed to congregate on boardwalks and access areas.
