Robert 'Bob' Merle Harrod:
He has been missing since July 27, 2009.
An old girl friend called him in May 2009.
She came to visit June 23, 2009.
They married June 29, 2009, in Fullerton, CA.
He disappeared July 27, 2009.

Robert's information:

dob: 06/01/1928
date last seen: 7/27/2009, about 11:00a.m, Placentia, CA.
date missing persons report filed.: 07/28/2009: about 3:00am, CDT, Kansas City time. Fontelle called from Kansas City.

Story:
Robert's wife passed away last year.
An old girlfriend, Fontelle Heeter, got in touch with him in May 2009.
She came to visit in June 2009. They got married six days later, 6/29/2009.
They had gone to get a marriage license and just decided to get married right then and there.
Fontelle says she was engaged to Robert over 55 years ago.
But then Robert went into the Korean war and she did not hear from him again.
They both went on to marry other people and raised their own families.

A few days after their marriage 6/29/9, Fontelle returned to Kansas City, MO, to pack her belongings to move to CA.
Robert and Fontelle talked two times daily by phone.
But,
on July 27, 2009, Robert was said to have sent his son in law to Home Depot to pick up some building supplies for a repair in his house.
Son in law says left about 11:00am. He returned about 1:00 pm, Robert was not there.
A cleaning person was there, waiting outside for at least one half hour.

Robert is said to argued with a family member that day.

Family says that Robert had been helping out a 45 yr old woman friend.
There was some thought that maybe he got cold feet about the marriage and got in touch with this person.

His eye glasses, checkbook and his car were left at the house.
His wallet and car keys are missing.
There has been no activity on his bank account or credit cards.

Family says Robert never mentioned Fontelle over the years and that Fontelle would have been just 15 yrs old at the time of that engagement years ago.
Family also says that Robert did not serve in Korea, but was based in CA, as a cook.
Family also says that their father had been happier since he started talking with Fontelle than anytime in the past year.

There has been some suggestion on this board that this case may be linked to a similar double murder in Omaha- please refer to the 'Omaha Double Murder' thread under 'Current Events". A chart was done on that crime with some interesting results.
My personal opinion is that the crimes, while similar, are not related. But both involved a woman and a child victim with the father finding them when coming home from work. I hope you can get some help here and if any relation exists the FA staff can help with it. Good luck!

I have heard that speculation, I also dont think these are related just a very sad similarity in stories. I will go look at the chart though. IMO the crime is local and sadly the murderer may have been working construction but that is my inexperienced opinion. Thank you so much for caring! If you look at the pictures of the victims they will stay with you forever...two of the most happy, beautiful people. :blowkiss:

Just a little background I've gathered:
The two girls were having a sleepover at the Bailey home. When Lexi's mom checked on them around 11:45 there were gone. Evidently, they snuck out of the house. They have not been seen since. There was a party in the Escondito area it is believed that they went to and there was a call from Julianne's cell phone from that area around 2:45 or 3:00 a.m. to a cab company but the cab company has no record of picking up any girls at that time. There were also several suspicious calls to a man in that area prior to the time they went missing but LE says this person has no knowledge of the girls. LE is treating this as a runaway case but both families don't believe either of the girls would leave with only the clothes they were wearing and very little money. I don't know if there birthdates have been released yet. There is a thread on the girls in the "missing" forum. Here it is:

Reported missing by his mother, Melinda Marie Duckett, from her Leesburg apartment. Less than 2 weeks after reporting Trenton missing, Melinda commits suicide in her grandparents home.

Carol Lynne Keightley
Keightley, 18, of Southeast Portland was a student at Vocational Village School and a former student at Franklin High
School, who was found dead Jan. 10, 1982, 11 days after her mother reported her missing.
Circumstances: The evening of Sunday, Dec. 27, 1981, Keightley left a friend’s house intending to catch a TriMet bus at
Southeast 57
th
Avenue and Powell Boulevard. She told friends she planned to ride the bus to downtown Portland make
a transfer and then go to her mother’s home in Tigard. She never arrived. She was seen later that evening in the area of
Creston Park on Southeast Powell. Her body was found Sunday, Jan 10, 1982, dumped in a ravine on the south side of
Interstate 84 just east of the Gateway exit. She was fully clothed and her purse was found nearby. An autopsy
determined that she was likely killed within four hours after she was last seen Dec. 27, 1981.
Keightley was 5-foot-6, 120 pounds with shoulder length brown hair. She was wearing a brown leather jacket, white
blouse with multicolored floral print, purple pants and brown leather shoes. She had a brown leather purse with
shoulder straps and was carrying a white plastic shopping bag.
The continuing investigation Keightley had a monthly TriMet pass and rode the bus frequently. Detectives determined
that Keightley would sometimes hitchhike near a bus stop and accept a ride instead of riding the bus if the free ride
came before the bus. Evidence in the case is being resubmitted to the state crime lab for analysis not available in 1982.
Someone knows who committed this crime and with the passage of time detectives hope that a person or persons may
now be willing to talk about it.
