Again, the body is the trophy to some killers. It has to be close enough so they can visit it when they want to. In the case of the GB4 it can be within a short drive, maybe while walking the dog as an excuse.
If the killer is passing these with a dog they are walking a dog for hours and hours from their origins. There are no houses in that area, just road and water. The nearest residential areas are either Point Lookout or Oak Beach, which is a distance of 20 miles. It's a half-hour by car. The trophy idea for the Gilgo 4 is fine IF you are talking about someone living within this 20-mile stretch. The trophy angle doesn't work if they're farther away, which allows for other victims spread elsewhere. Never underestimate that they just thought it was a sufficiently remote area and nothing more.

I feel They really need to look into Dr. Charles Hackett again. It isn’t a coincidence that after he moved the bodies have stopped popping up. He then moved to Florida a place where it is summer basically all year long. Therefore he doesn’t need to wait to June anymore to make his kills. As in winter must make it difficult for someone like him. He is in his 60s I believe now which would add up for the age estimate. He now resides in Lona fort meyers which is right near a beach once again. HAS ANYONE LOOKED AT MISSING PERSONS IN THE CENTRAL FLORIDA AREA SINCE HE’S MOVED THERE ? I’ve started looking into it today and noticed a women who fits the description of what he seemed as his type. View attachment 344119

Patricia Costello was a topless dancer who was found murdered in Heckscher State Park in Islip in June 1986.

She was strangled elsewhere and then placed there.

Her killer wrapped a piece of clothing around her neck and then tied the other end to a tree.

The police believe that her killer did this in order to make it look like a suicide. However, I have a problem with this "assessment."

The biggest problem with this theory is that she was naked, and her clothes were found nearby. If her killer really wanted to make it look like a suicide, then I can't imagine why they'd leave her naked.

A part of me believes that this may have been a case of posing, where the offender "poses" the victim in a way that gives him gratification and/or shocks the finder.

This is very uncommon in sexual homicides. From what I've read, it only occurs in less than 1% of sexually-motivated murders.

Interestingly, this isn't too far from where LISK suspect John Bittrolff was living.

Even more interesting is the fact that Bittrolff posed his victims. In the case of Colleen McNamee, he seemingly murdered her elsewhere, brought her to the dump spot, posed her naked body, and then tossed her clothes around...

Interesting......& he lived close by as you stated. He was just turning 20 years old on July 1, so its possible. He also left DNA Colleen McNamee & the other ladys body in early 1990's......but what from what the article states above, there is no DNA evidence that was left at the scene, so im assuming the perp didnt have sex with Patricia, or leave any other trace evidence behind.

Unfortunately, there is very little information about her case. The one thing that struck me was the potential posing. I don't think that the killer would have left her undressed if they were planning on making it look like a suicide.

At the time, he would have been 20, about to turn 21. That's relatively young, but not unheard of. It's possible that his fantasies weren't fully matured by that point.

This skull bothers me as I don’t believe it has been solved yet. I don’t think they have even identified it as being male or female. And I cannot find it on namus either.
. anyway I recently came across the skull with the fillings again..but don’t know if this ever got solved. Does anyone know?

SOURCE: BODY FOUND OFF SOUTHERN PARKWAY
Mason, Bill. Newsday [Long Island, N.Y] 12 July 2008.

For the second time in two weeks, a body was found dumped on the side of the Southern State Parkway in the North Merrick area, police said. A "laundry-type bag" containing a badly decomposed body was found Wednesday night on the shoulder of the parkway west of Merrick Avenue, State Police said. That was about a mile from a parkway ramp in Bellmore where a suitcase was found June 27 that contained the dismembered body of a Brooklyn woman. Investigators have not identified the latest victim, but suspect it is a woman who may have been dead for more than three weeks. The two homicides do not appear to be related, police said. The dismembered body found two weeks ago was identified as Tanya Rush, 39, of East New York. There have been no arrests in that case. Anyone with information concerning either case is asked to call 631-756-3390.
What about Rex?

A suitcase containing possible human bones was found near Forest Park in Queens, police said. A passerby found the suitcase containing what appeared to be a human skull and other possible skeletal remains near Forest Parkway and Park Lane South in Richmond Hill, police said...

The human remains recently discovered in a suitcase in Forest Park belong to a Woodhaven mother of two who went missing in June, police medical examiners have confirmed.

Remains of Reyna Isabel De Los Santos — which were discovered on March 4 by several youths — were identified using dental records, the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information said.

At press time, a suspect in the murder had not been arrested. The DCPI did confirm, however, that Edwin Fuentes, the victim’s widower, had been arrested on evidence of child abuse.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office said that Fuentes had been charged and that bail was set at $50,000.

Iannone’s conviction was for a single incident, a brutal kidnapping and attack committed on June 8, 1996. But the trial was in many ways about many other alleged crimes, including at least a half-dozen sexual assaults and two murders — the cold-case killings of Allison Jackson Foy and Angela Rothen, crimes for which Iannone has been the prime suspect for over a decade, though never charged.

The following is a collection from archived Newsday articles. I have included the dates the articles were published as well as the headline for each case (dates do not necessarily correspond to when any victim went missing or was found). Due to the number of articles I have saved/referenced I dont think I'll be able to upload direct sources. If you want to read these articles in depth you will need to subscribe to Newsday to look up their archives.

I did my best to organize these chronologically and provide a rough location where they were found/area of interest. For several cases I wasn't able to find a victim name so those are labled "Unidentified?", however this does not mean they actually havent been identified, I just hit a dead end on my research.

I tried to focus on cases where a body was found between 1980-2000, some names are probably familiar, others were new to me when researching. Disclaimer, I am not necessarily saying any of these are LISK/RH victims and apologize in advance for any harsher language that was common place during this era when I quoted or paraphrased from reporters/police.

Possibly Carmen Vargas? (Meadowbrook Parkway/Freeport)

Sandra Acosta (Brooklyn)
  • 10/31/1991 "Grisly Find in B’klyn"
    • In a weedy lot in Park Slope, two transit police officers tripped over the dismembered remains of a young woman, two hands, two feet, arms and legs cut in two, and a head all dumped in a heap.
    • Photographs of the severed head led to identifying the body as Sandra Acosta, 23, who disappeared on Friday and reported missing by her husband Tuesday. Husband told the police that his wife, who he said was a drug addict, was last seen at 10:35PM in a downtown brooklyn project on Nevins St.
    • The body parts had been neatly cut up. The torso was missing. No blood was evident, indicating to police that the killing “couldn’t have occurred here”. The dismemberment was almost surgically tidy. No clothing, identification or weapons were found in the lot. Because the torso is missing, police cannot determine the cause of death. The condition of the body parts indicate she was killed no earlier than two days ago.
    • From the moment the grisly find was reported, police worked to match up the remains with one of several missing persons reports they had received in the area - including reports of three girls ranging in age from 13 to 16, who had disappeared during the last 3 weeks, but have found no links.
    • Police originally believed Sandras body was that of Tiffany Dixon, 12, who had been reported missing from her home in Carroll Garden on October 10. Other disappearances include Sophier Kauslender, 13 of St. Johns Place who disappeared from in front of her house on October 22 and Latesha Isaac, who was last seen in front of her Willoughby Street home and reported missing Monday

    • Unidentified woman was “probably in her early 20s, had black hair and was lightly tanned.
    • PD would not say if the woman had died elsewhere and was then dumped in the field on Ralph Avenue. “Right now were handling this as a murder… the way the body appears in the middle of the schoolyard, totally nude, makes it look like someone was killed”.
    • Don Grieco, who made the find around 5:30am, said that at first he didn’t know exactly what he had stumbled upon. ‘I just happened to look over… I kind of thought it was a dog, after I realized it wasn’t a cardboard box”. After he came within 100 ft and saw that it was a body he ran back to the house and called police.
    • “That field is often traveled in the early morning by commuters going to the train station” said Grieco

    • Friends are certain she left the bar at 2:30 AM planning to walk home. Hours later her body was discovered by a man walking his dog.
