This article says that no "alerte enlèvement" - the french equivalent of the amber alert has been launched. The police spent all Sunday looking for her, and only launched a "call for witnesses" at the national level at 9pm on Sunday. This is 18hrs after she was first noticed missing... anyone could have took her across to Italy or Switzerland... Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin is only around 3 hrs from these borders. I really hope she is found soon, this is sounding really scary :(

It reminds me of William Tyrrells disappearance.

Very good point, surely someone will remember if a car was parked there.
This must be fairly near to where the English tourists were killed some years ago?

Are you thinking of the Annecy shootings/ Chevaline killings? These happened September 3, 2012 on the Route Forestiére Domaniale de la Combe d'Ire near Chevaline, Haute-Savoie near the southern end of Lake Annecy. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annecy_shootings; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...i-family-broadens-investigation-a6782101.html)

Maëlys was last seen in Pont-de-Beauvoisin, Isére, southeastern France.

According to Google, the distance between Chevaline and Isére is 89.2 km via A43 (1 hour, 11 minutes), 106.4 km via A41 (1 hour 39 minutes) and 96.9 km via D911 (1 hour 55 minutes). I think this may indicate a rough idea of travel time between the actual locations.

From the same link:

This man, whose age and profile were not specified, was "near the marriage site"

His interrogation aims to clarify inconsistencies in his previous declarations, according to a source close to the investigation, opened under the qualification of kidnapping by the Bourgoin-Jallieu public prosecutor's office.
According to BFMTV, he was one of the wedding guests and known to the police for common law offenses.

(Contrary to the other article above, this one says he was one of the wedding guests.)

Arrest and they're searching woodland nearby :(

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/31/france-police-arrest-man-disappearance-maelys-de-araujo-alps-reports

French police have reportedly arrested a man in connection with the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl during a family wedding in the Alps.

Maelys de Araujo was last seen at 3am local time (0200 BST) on Sunday in Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin, a village 29 miles (47km) north of Grenoble.

Police officers, search and rescue teams, and divers are searching the heavily wooded area.

A source said the arrested man was near the wedding venue when she disappeared and his account of his whereabouts that night contained inconsistencies.

Information/Clarifications on the person arrested:

un homme aurait été aperçu en train de discuter "une partie de la soirée" avec Maelys. Selon la même chaîne de télévision, il se serait absenté vers 2h30 du matin pour "aller chercher des cigarettes". Or on sait que la fillette disparue a été vue pour la dernière fois aux environs de 3 heures. L'homme aurait quitté la salle des fêtes du mariage au moment où les gendarmes ont été appelés.

He apparently was seen talking to Maelys for a part of the evening. Left the party to get cigarettes around 2.30am. She was seen for the last time around 3am. He left the party again when the police was called.

l'homme placé en garde à vue n'était pas sur la liste des invités au mariage, mais était venu se joindre à la fête sur l'invitation du père de la fillette. C'est lui qui lui aurait proposé de venir boire un verre à la fin du mariage.

He was not on the wedding guest list
, but was invited by Maelys father to have a drink at the end of the wedding.

Selon une source proche de l'enquête citée par ce média, il n'est pas connu des services de police pour des faits d'agression sexuelle ou d'agression sur mineurs.

He is apparently not known to the police for offences of a sexual nature or involving kids. Contrary to what was reported earlier.
