I'll just give my opinion that someone would typically check into their hotel first and then head out on any adventure -- unless they arrived really too early for check-in?

Unless they wanted to head for that area but didn't want to worry the taxi driver by asking to be dropped off in the wilderness.

Choosing a hotel, asking to be driven there, waiting until the taxi has left and then going on to where you really want is probably the most surreptitious way.

I'm presuming she doesn't have a tent and camping equipment?

Well, this is most bizarre! From Montpellier to Scotland. I do hope she'll turn up safe somewhere.

So she took a taxi only 15 miles to a new hotel but did not check in? Why would she travel to this new hotel? What did she want to see or do there?

I did Google the hotel, and it seems nice; its Google profile does say it's located 15-minutes from a beach.

However I'll just give my opinion that someone would typically check into their hotel first and then head out on any adventure -- unless they arrived really too early for check-in?

I am rooting for Susan's safe return to her family.
So strange. Reports are that she left the Caladh Inn at 5.10pm that evening. Allowing for the walk to the taxi rank and the journey it would have been around 6pm before she reached her last known stop. It would have been almost dark by this point and it wouldn’t be the kind of place you could easily pick up another taxi from. I wonder if her phone has been ‘pinged’ anywhere else after this?

Very concerning update today. The area she travelled to is relatively remote, coastal and miles from any alternative accommodation. Predominantly moorland with little or no footpaths and scattered detached houses on the through road leading to the most northerly tip of the island (another 12 or so miles away). Locals have been asked to check outbuildings and sheds for any sign. Her poor family, thoughts are with them.
are there any Air B&Bs?

Borve Country House Hotel - Isle of Lewis - Outer Hebrides

Find the perfect accommodation to relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing. Choose from Hotels, B&Bs, Self Catering, Campsites, Hostels and Glamping ...

the other hotel just seemed convenient to town but not super scenic. Did LE get her phone info? I am wondering if she had a project or a date. In the photo from the other hotel, she has no luggage? Also, any chance she took a boat trip - could cause no phone reception and might be not-a-tragedy.

We can only hope it’s not a tragedy at this point. I’m of the impression that her backpack had all her belongings in it - may be wrong but could be bigger than it looks. Also the previous hotel would have mentioned if she’d left things behind. No chance of a boat trip on the island, especially at that time on a Sunday evening. Desperately hoping for some good news

if she was in a little guest house or an Air B&B, maybe no one would
know... and for sure not a boat the evening she left Caladh Inn but maybe the next day. IMO

Police Scotland have updated their appeal, adding new information.

"Susan Forde checked out of the Caladh Inn Hotel in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis around 5.10pm on Sunday, 16 October.

She took a taxi to the Borve Country House Hotel, some 15 miles north of Stornoway, where she was left in the car park. She did not enter the hotel and has not been seen since."

Yup - makes sense. Unfortunately, I think she knew exactly what she was doing.

"Maybe you sold her a plane, train, ferry or bus ticket, maybe she was in your taxi. Maybe you recognise her from a hospital admission or maybe you saw her on a beach or served her a coffee,” they said in a social-media appeal.

Susan is an occupational therapist and had set up Slánú Stroke Rehab, a not-for-profit business, to help stroke victims.

If anyone has seen Susan or knows of her whereabouts, please get in touch with Police Scotland, quoting incident number 1262 or 2 November, 2022.

The family have also set up an e-mail to receive information. If you have any information, email pleasefindsusan2022@gmail.com.''

I hope they find her… I guess it’s just such a huge search it’s almost impossible as the leads close by have dried up. Does she not want to be found? Foul play? It’s brutal not to know.

I would like to know were Susan was planning on staying that night as the borve was closed. I would hope the taxi driver would of told Susan that it was closed as the Borve may have been dark when they arrived. I did look at murder rates of the Isle of Lewis and they are low. There was one in 2013 and you have to go as far back as 1968 if you want the next murder case.

''Background: Susan Forde left the Republic of Ireland in March to go travelling. She spent some time in Edinburgh before going to the Western Isles.

Last seen: She left the Caladh Hotel in Stornoway on Sunday, October 16 and took a taxi to the village of Borve.

Description: When last seen, she was wearing an orange top, a dark jacket with white lining, blue trousers or jeans, walking boots, a cream/grey tammy hat, spectacles and was carrying a backpack.''

Such a mystery. There’s no evidence that Susan left the island so one can presume she is still there. She wasn’t driving herself so any taxi driver or hitched ride would surely have come forward if any further movement was made. I wonder if Susan had any ancestral connections to Borve in particular. Sad no updates as yet.
