A couple of thoughts I've had about this horrifying case:

--it wouldn't take too much marksmanship to hold a pistol a few feet away from a baby and shoot it in the face.
--I do not have any confirmation of this theory, but I imagine at such a close range a bullet could have gone through the baby and into the mother's leg.

I realize those are terrible thoughts, but for the above reasons I am not getting a 'hinky' vibe from either the statement that the baby was shot between the eyes or that the mother was shot in the leg. I will wait for LE to give out more info, but in the meantime I am thinking that even a hardened might be a little rattled after shooting a baby in the face and subsequent shot(s) might go a little wild. IMO, MOO, etc.

I'm just glad there HAVE been arrests.

Mom says in her story that she was shot first, but didn't realize she was hurt. I think she says he fired one into the ground, then at her head (grazing her ear), then her leg. At that point he threatened the baby.

Of course, while one is being shot at and threatened, it is possible that she messed up on the order of events.

I don't remember which link...But the mother said the bullet was still in her leg and would not have it removed. Does anyone know why? TIA

Where can I read about DE saying he was at school studying for his GED all morning? tia

Here is the aunt's info.
Police announced the arrests of Elkins and the 14-year-old Friday afternoon. But Katrina Freeman, Elkins' aunt, said Saturday that he couldn't be the killer because the two were together at the time of the shooting.
Freeman said Elkins dropped by her home about 8:15 a.m. — roughly an hour before the shooting — and she cooked them grits, eggs and sausage for breakfast.
They stayed at her home until about 11 a.m., Freeman said, and then Elkins accompanied her and her children on some errands for about an hour. After noon, he left for classes he's taking to earn his GED, she said.

Sorry it took me so long to find your link pensfan. It is not in the body of the very brief article but both the aunt, the sister, and the statement about DE being at school studying for GED are in the actual video at the linked page. So you cannot read it, I am not sure why there is such a brief print article which does not reflect what is in the video news report it is linked with, but there you have it. I hope that helps. Again, apologies, I was not ignoring your request, but it took some time to track down for reasons stated above. :)

it is in the unedited interview with mom right after the murder but before the arrest. If I remember right she said doctors told her there were risks of possible permanent nerve damage if they tried to remove the bullet. Being already plagued by her existing back issue she opted not to let them risk it. Again, that is my recollection but if you want to hear it from the horses mouth that is the video to look for. I know it is linked quite a few pages back on the thread but would rather not go looking right this sec. Hope you don't mind.

Thank you :)

I've read so many links and could not remember why the bullet would not be removed.

Thanks for this--I was looking for a video as well as I suspected that's why it was hard to find. But what I keep seeing is a sister (yellow t-shirt, named Sabrina in other articles) who speaks of FRIDAY morning's arrest, where Elkins came to the door for his usual breakfast and police met him there with a taser (in case he resisted arrest).

The other gal with the orange shirt is Katrina F., the aunt, who is the one I've heard say he was with her on the morning of the murder--THURSDAY, from 8:15 until about noontime, after which she drove him and his cousin to school (called 'adult school' on other videos/articles--I'm guessing that's where he's studying for his GED).

So those two relatives don't conflict, since they're talking about two different days. I can't find a record of a second aunt.

These boys were not too bright, they kill a baby that CAN NOT identify them but they let an adult live that can. SMH

I am still looking to verify QueenD's post about an aunt calling police about DE and him exhibiting suspicious behavior. She said it was on the firscoastnews.com site, and I am looking, I found the video with the other things she referenced in her post. But I have not found the bit about the aunt who called in a tip.

On another note, I did hear on the video I linked regarding the various alibis for Pensfan upthread that LE claims the boys being arrested came after 24 or so phone tips, one of which presumably led LE to look at these teens.

Nothing is said about who or what the tip was, obviously but I thought I should make mention of it as it may be relevant to the current thing about an Aunt possibly phoning LE I am searching for now.

from what I have been able to piece together the sister is simply speaking about how she believes he is not capable of this. The aunt alibis him with the breakfast/errands on thursday. The day prior his mother is quoted in MANY articles claiming she is 100% sure he was at her house that morning and then there is the video things stating relatives hope his alibi of being at the study program would clear him.

That equals three. Unless by chance his mother and the auntie who alibis him reside in the same home. Then that would make two alibis put forth by the family: a family home eating breakfast and the study program.

One possible explanation for this aside from the obvious conclusion that could be reached (somebody is lying to protect a loved one) is that perhaps his mom and aunt reside together and mom was referring to him being with the aunt in her initial statements about 100% sure and then after being at the family home he was at the study program.

I am trying to nail it down but it is very slippery right now with so little and such seeming conflicting info.

My babies are now in their 20s, and I still have too many of their baby clothes. But hey, I also have many of their baby teeth and locks of hair from early haircuts. I'm guessing that's pretty weird the other direction. ;)

From what I've experienced, people mourning close family members (children, wives, husbands) often part with their clothing at the end stages of grief. But it varies, I suppose. Especially if you're packing up and moving suddenly out of town--you either pack it or donate it.

Hi PIM. Your thoughts make sense. The mom can't likely take everything.
I'm shocked about this crime......I can't make sense of any of it.

How soon after the crime were the suspects arrested?
Were gun residue tests conducted?
Were LD test given?

Mom stated that she couldn't have it removed because it would affect the ligaments in her knee. That is physiologically impossible though. There are no ligaments or tendons where the mom was shot. She shows the entrance wound on the uncut interview video.

It might be near a nerve or blood vessels and this was why the surgeon suggested she should not have it removed. (Many people live long and healthy lives with bullets lodged in them. She was shot with a small caliber bullet too. )

Funny you should say that, as I was wondering what ligaments she was talking about! I'm no nurse but have had knee ligament injury and knee surgery. Looked like she was shot in thigh muscle to me (but what do I know?). ;)

Katrina Freeman said Saturday the shooter can't be her nephew, Elkins, because he showed up at her house Thursday at 8:15 a.m. — roughly an hour before the killing. She said she cooked eggs, grits and sausage for breakfast and that Elkins accompanied her and her children to run errands when they left at about 11:30 a.m.

How old are KF's children? tia

From looking at KF's fb page, her kids are old enough to be reliable witnesses to DE's presence during their breakfast.

“Sherry West said she was pushing her baby in his stroller as she walked home from the post office Thursday morning. She said a teenager, with a younger boy behind him, approached and asked her for money.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_2939022.html

So, looking at the map:

MAP3points_zps697af0fb.png

She's walking from A (post office) back south to B (neighborhood block near home where 911 call came from) heading to her house on Union Street.

She says she was "approached by" the teenager with the younger boy "behind him." That means the two boys were walking towards her coming from the direction of her house (around the corner on Union)--not walking behind her (following) as they would if walking from Elkin's house on MLK Blvd (point C).

I fail to see how you can make these conclusion. Just because someone approached you, doesn't mean they approached you from the front. It could have been from the side. Also, in all likelyhood this suspect has a cell phone. Which means police could track where he was and at what time.

Can I ask a dumb (non USA person) question? I thought 'Bloods' was a LA thing, is it a national gang, or did he just think 'Bloods' were his team, you know like the way you might follow a football team or something? Was he actually a gang member of an LA gang from GA or does he just think they're 'awesome'?

Don't tell me these street gangs have gone national (or god forbid international) like outlaw motorcycle clubs.....
