Antonio Santiago, 13-months-old, is shot while being strolled by his mother, Sherry West, on a quiet, tree-lined street in Brunswick, Georgia. The distraught mother claims that two young Black men tried to rob her and when she said that she didn’t have any money, one of them shot her in the leg and ear then coldly walked over to the stroller and fatally shot her baby boy in the face.

911 callers could be heard screaming as they tell the dispatcher that the baby had been shot and his mother had him on the ground trying to perform CPR. One man told the dispatcher that baby Antonio was not breathing and that he had been shot “right between the eyes.”

I have seen none yet Hickory and I have been keeping an eye out. Worried about this whole rally business.

I wonder how Sherry is doing? I am really concerned about her especially in light of her possible mental health issues. I so hope that she is receiving help with processing all of this.

It is difficult when remembering and relaying traumatic events.

Hickory, I get what you're saying and I don't know her full story, but she was either abandoned when she was 8, or CPS took her when she was 8. I can see being either resentful, or having been preoccupied with worry for that child. It does seem sad to come out so publicly, but kids who have been neglected or abandoned suffer such hurt. And since this happened when she was 8, it's likely she has vivid memories of some pretty bad times.

Brunswick Commissioner could be removed from post

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A Brunswick City Commissioner's job could be in jeopardy after his arrest in the investigation into the murder of a of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago.

Action News has learned Brooks' indictment will now be sent to Georgia's Governor. The Governor will then call for a panel to be formed to review the case and decide Commissioner Brooks' fate.

I love how aggressive this department is. If you obstruct this investigation in any way, apparently, you will be charged.

As with any high profile case, groups will come out of the woodwork to get their name out there and have their 15 minutes of fame. Ho hum, imo.

I have seen many comments from those actually IN the community of Brunswick who are supportive of Antonio's parents are shocked and angry that this awful crime has been committed.

The people who have rallied round the accused seem to be a select few family and friends of the shooter coupled with others from outside the community pushing their own agendas.

I think its unfair to assess the response of Brunswick as not rallying for little Antonio based on what strangers over the internet have to say or some idiotic group is doing to get their face in the cameras.

I agree, I'm not seeing much rallying around them at all, besides family members. At first there seemed to be kind of a questioning attitude by many in the public, "are you sure these are the right guys"? type of thing, but I don't see that at all anymore.

Brooks has to turn himself in to Camden County on the bribery charge. This has nothing to do with the murder.

The bottom line here is that there is NO excuse for shooting an defenseless infant. Nothing could ever explain it or make it understandable! It is just unbelievably horrific ! There is nothing the infant did to get in the situation, contribute to it or defend himself from it. There is NOTHING questionable about what this baby did!!! All of the criminal actions were a result of the killer.

So this commissioner who was arrested is supposed to be some sort of distant relative to one of the accused killers and told family members that they did not have to talk to the police? So he involved himself where he did not belong and is now in trouble with them? How many other <modsnip> are going to get arrested for involvement in this murder? Seriously?? For supporting the point blank murder of a baby!!!

I feel bad for the mom. So she isn't a pillar of the community but I don't care. She and her baby are the victims here! It seems she has had struggles in life obviously. So now her older daughter is speaking out in a way that certainly isn't supportive of her mom. What is wrong with these people? She should have just kept her mouth shut because she had nothing useful to add. I guess she wanted the attention though.

It is disappointing in the human race to see how many people have reacted to this, for whatever reason.

I don't get the daughter either. By claiming her mother has mental health issues, she seemed to have opened the door for defense lawyer to ask for mental health records. If she had any sort of suspicions (however baseless) then contact the police. Why tell it to the press?
How is that going to help get justice for her little brother?
