Found Deceased GA - Bud, 69, & June Runion, 66, McRae, 22 Jan 2015 #2 *Arrest*

Everybody seems to ignore the fact that it was Bud that was using Craigslist to advertise, not the other way around.

If the arguments I keep seeing had any merit, then Craigslist would have been required to contact Bud and let him know that the advertisement he posted wasn't allowed.

"But why would an advertisement like that not be allowed ?", Bud might have asked.

"Because, someone out there might call you on the ad you placed, lie to you about what they have for sell, and eventually kill you and your wife", Craigslist would have HAD to reply.

Then again, someone may have actually seen Bud's ad and given him a call, made a deal, and everyone lived happily ever after.

People use Craigslist because it is free. People use Craigslist because it covers a huge customer base. People use Craigslist because it is a good source to find things that aren't in the newspaper classifieds. People use Craigslist because it is easy to access and easy to shop on. People love to find bargains, get rid of their junk, find stuff local, and do all of it for free.

Craigslist is only demonized and ostracized when something like this happens and their name gets pulled into it. This could have happened in any kind of an advertising medium where two people meet and swap money while buying and selling.

Craigslist has no blame in this. Ronnie Towns has all the blame in this.

I'm not a UK'er, but just by taking a look at Gumtree's website, yes, I would say it is very similar to Craigslist.

People don't need craigslist to commit a crime, it's like blaming a gun for a shooting, blaming a spoon on getting fat, where there is a will there is a way. Cain used a rock to kill Cain, he didn't need a fancy weapon or website.

Sunset in McRae on January 22 was at 5:56 p.m.That would mean that at 5:30, when they would have stopped at the antique store to ask for directions, it would already be starting to lose a little bit of light.

Why would you want to head out 180 miles at 2 p.m. to view the classic car of your dreams, knowing that it would be almost dark when you got to see it ?? I know that I would want to check out something for sale in the bright light of day.

I would bet the 'seller' suggested that time, Fri pm, knowing there was more chance of the Runions bringing cash as the banks would be closed til Monday.

Per WSBTV. The GBI is executing a search warrant in Telfair county for the gun that killed the Runions. Officials have already seized severa guns

This is exactly what I have been thinking. It just makes no sense for them to go to an unfamiliar area that late in the day, when by the time that they arrived to meet the killer, it was probably about dark - and down a dark dirt road no less! JT must have really been a smooth-talker.

Yes, I have had a hard time understanding this as well. And when the woman from the antique shop said the road they had asked about, didn't exist anymore??? :tantrum:

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is helping authorities in middle Georgia search for the weapon used to murder a Cobb County couple.
Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne had exclusive access as agents joined Telfair County deputies to search for the gun used to kill Bud and June Runion.

Deputies have charged Ronnie Towns, 28, with killing the Runions. Investigators believe Towns used a Craigslist ad for a classic car to lure them to Telfair County where he planned to rob them.

Deputies found the Runions SUV in a pond and their bodies nearby.

Friday, Winne spent the day with GBI agents as they executed a search warrant at a farm and a trailer tied to Towns.

"I'll continue to look for a weapon until we identify the weapon used in this crime," said Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson.

GBI agents from three field offices working with DNR officers helped with the search.

Authorities seized several guns and transported them to the GBI crime lab, according to Special Agent Eve Rodgers.

She asked any residents in Telfair County to report any discarded guns or possible evidence in the case.

The GBI plans to continue to search the area through the weekend, as family members gather for the Runion's funeral.

Steverson said he plans to attend the memorial service which is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Paran North Church of God Marietta.

Judging by what a mastermind this guy appears to be when it comes to crime, I'm sure he didn't do a real good job of hiding it.

Sometimes things just happen. I wanted a certain dog. I started looking on Craigslist for it. I found what sounded like the perfect dog I wanted. It was a 2 hour trip for me. I told my daughter about the dog and wondered if I should risk a 2 hour trip to meet the woman from Craigslist. My daughter told me if I could wait until later the next day, she would go with me to see the dog. Safety in numbers. Ummm ok. So I set up the meeting for the dog. It was to be at a public store at a certain time. When we got to the town and called the woman, we ended up talking to her husband (so he said). He told us it would be at least 2 hours before his wife would have her hair fixed to meet with us in town. Whatttt? But that he could meet with us. We said ok. Then he called us back and said he didn't have enough gas to meet with us in town and he would give us directions to his house. I said no way, and hadn't he heard about Craigslist killings and I was not going to his house. He laughed with us and said he wasn't a killer and he could meet with us at a church near his home. I said we would discuss it and call him back. My daughter talked me into going. Mommmmm, we have driven for two hours, do you really want to go back home empty handed? I am sure it will be okkkkk. Against my better judgement, we went to the church, which was abandoned, and met the man. My daughter got out and talked to him while I sat in the car with my arm held high with my cell phone in it and my friend listening to every word on the other end in case something happened, lol. The dog was nothing like was described but I bought the dog so we could hurry and leave. The dog still lives happily with me.... but this is how things can spin out of control. And I still think that guy was shady and there was probably never a wife.

Just a thought, if you were building repore with an intended victim you could tell them you could not meet them until after you get off work. That would put them meeting after five. Bud runion was a working man all his life and that would make since. Also would be a reason to go to the town instead of meet half way. RT had a child. What if he shows up with a kid. That would put your victim at ease too.

Here's another thought. Thankfully Bud and June didn't invite a couple of their daughters to ride down with them.

I agree with you, the records were obtained quickly. Bud was retired from AT & T formerly BellSouth. It's possible a colleague or friend of Bud/family allowed the family access to the phone records. I don't know that this happened, just another possibility.

I hope not because than any thing they got can be thrown out if court. All the defense would have to say it did not follow the proper procedure of search warrants
