I was trying to figure out why his bank card was being used in Florida, when I read this info from the Find John "Dax" Dunn FB page:

"He was last seen on 2/15 at the Circle K gas station located on 4 Hwy 19 S in Inglis Fl (90 miles north of Tampa) and is traveling in a white 2013 Nissan Frontier, pictured below, TAG - QFK2741. He left home on February 13th for a solo fishing trip, said he was going somewhere near Tampa but was not sure of an exact location. There has been no activity on his cell or bank accounts since 2/15. He was due back on the 18th for work and did not show up." BBM

From the Find John Dunn FB page:
John “Dax” Dunn is the father to 4 children, ages 23, 17, 15 and 10, who just want their father back home safely. His wife, coworkers, friends and family love him and are praying for his safe return. He is a former Marine and committed to caring for his family and his country. He has never disappeared; this is completely out of character. He loves his job that he’s worked at for the last 17 years; he has never missed work.

:( His family is clearly hurting so much! Hoping this is resolved soon!

According to Florida LE:
Inman, Georgia: 4:30pm, 13Feb I'm going fishing > 15Feb caught on cctv in Inglis, Florida > 17Feb rents a kayak at Crystal River.
Here the mystery starts as he was apparently due back at work on 18Feb (as per upthread - Find John "Dax" Dunn ).

Vehicle 'appears' in a - previously searched - secluded area on 3March. Kayak not returned.

Even if it were a voluntary missing, someone has moved the vehicle.

Levy County Sheriff's Star: Missing Person John “Dax” Dunn UPDATE

•LE discovered recent internet search history from Dunn= the Cedar Key area of Levy County.
No sightings of Dunn have been reported since he used his debit card in Inglis.
•On March 3, 2020 an Inglis citizen reported a suspicious vehicle parked in a wooded area near the boat ramp at the end of CR 40 in the Inglis/Yankeetown area. It belonged to Dunn & the area was searched. No evidence of any foul play was discovered in or near his truck.
•The location where his vehicle was found had been checked by deputies on Thur.,Feb. 27th and Fri., Feb. 28th. Sometime after deputies checked this location (27/28th) someone, possibly Mr. Dunn himself, parked the truck there and attempted to conceal it in the woods.

Local search for missing fisherman continues; family asks for help

Stathan and his friends went to the gas station and watched security video showing Dunn at the counter of the store. A copy of his credit card receipt shows he bought three packs of cigarettes, two energy drinks, a Gatorade and a Little Caesars Pizza.

On that day, he also rented a room at an Inglis motel. On Monday, Feb. 17, Dunn rented a 10.5-foot-long, lime green kayak and life vest from Paddles Outdoor Rentals in Crystal River, according to a receipt his friends and family later found.

He never returned the kayak and never made it home.

Sheriff’s deputies found Dunn’s fishing rods and reels in the bed of the truck. The truck was locked. A travel bag with his clothes were still inside as well as a cooler.

Missing from the truck were Dunn’s keys, wallet and pistol.

Also missing from the truck was Dunn’s spear gun. The kayak and life vest were also missing.

To summarize:

  • Locked truck
  • Fishing rods and reels in truck bed
  • Travel bag with clothes
  • Cooler
MISSING
  • Truck keys
  • Wallet
  • Pistol
  • Spear gun
  • Kayak
  • Life vest

Levy County Sheriff's Star: Update Missing Person John Dunn

One sentence in this article caught my eye: “...family has no idea why he left or where he was going.”

I’d not read anywhere else that they didn’t know why he left. Other articles said he left on a fishing trip, although I did think it was odd that he didn’t give them an exact location of where he was going.

Not sure if this is just incorrect reporting or if there is more to the story. Praying that he is found.

There seems to be two scenarios here:

1. He intended to rough it for an extended period and hid the truck so it wouldn't be broken into or towed OR
2. He intended self harm. Most people do not take a pistol kayaking.

In either scenario they should probably be searching the Crystal River and riverbanks.

Does this river have crocs or other large wildlife?
Is John retired or considered AWOL?
I wonder if he has struggled with PTSD?
Does he possibly know anyone in this area?

View Ramp

There is a map included on the link. It shows the public boat ramp at the end of County Rd 40 where LE stated his truck was found.
If you look just north of that, you will see access to a canoe/kayak launch. I assume it’s a possibility he utilized this if he put the rented kayak into the water close to where his truck was found.
I haven’t came across mention of the kayak being returned or found yet. I did notice the kayak was described as 10.5ft and lime green.
