Police seek clues after woman and dog killed in Atlanta park
''ATLANTA -- Investigators sought video from homes and businesses near a popular Atlanta park as divers searched a pond in their quest to solve the stabbing death of a parkgoer who was walking her dog.

Katherine Janness, 40, was found dead in Piedmont Park around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Police say her dog was also killed. No arrests have been made.''

''Janness was found stabbed multiple times and Atlanta police Deputy Chief Charles Hampton described the scene as “gruesome.”

This is an Atlanta PD case, not FBI. FBI is just assisting. So any updates will come from APD.
In your opinion, based on what we know so far, does APD have any leads or suspects? I imagine there is no way for us to know. It just seems surreal to me that someone could do this in a public park with people around and get away with it.

It is a bit surreal that this crime occurred when and where it did with no apparent witnesses. Either there are no clear suspects or they have a good suspect but are still gathering evidence before an arrest.

WOW. I have to agree with you, @SleepyLabRat! I'm glad she started screaming at him to get the attention of the men in the area that stepped in! She did the right thing. People are freaking crazy these days, and have completely lost the plot. It's become a daily thing, absolute bonkery (is that a word? It is now.) This dude was seriously walking around in broad daylight with what looks like a (dirty) chef's knife! Is that what that is? I hope he was promptly arrested, especially in light of another recent brutal stabbing!

I agree. Just the fact that two strangers felt the need to head off this guy to me indicates this guy was a threat. From the little bit of information given it sounds like he catcalled the women about them being sexy and they didn’t blush and respond in a cowering way which I guess he took as an insult to his manhood or something. This is totally not on the women. They don’t have to take being targets to somebody’s power trip.
It’s sad that a woman standing up for herself risked putting herself in danger.
I’m concerned though that there is no follow-up saying the police were called and came and escorted this guy away.

He was arrested this morning.

Wait...who, what, why?! Is he connected?
Sorry, I don't see anything about this!

Razz, check the last page in the previous thread. An Instagram poster was harassed by a man carrying what looked like a huge knife, in Piedmont (yesterday, I think?). A man had to step in, as the man with the knife was walking up towards the women and their children.

Bringing this forward from last thread.
Is it so hard to do a simple proofread to ensure the victim's name is spelled correctly? "Katie Jahnness"

The former detective said the victim's first name was Valerie. That killer is locked up and was in prison on the night that Katie was killed.

BBM .. Great, so unrelated to this case. Pointless.

In the potential message killing of Ms. Jahnness, police sources have told Fox5 what was carved into her torso. Police do not want that information revealed because deputy chief Charles Hampton, said, "there are details that only the killer would know about."
I'm surprised that reporters have been given this sensitive information and haven't 'leaked it'. Or maybe one did about a month ago and he was the one who was admonished in the press release by APD.

Piedmont Park murder reminds investigators of decades-old cold case

I agree that there might be more to the story than what we are seeing on the video, but clearly by that point, the women and other bystanders felt he was a threat, which is supported by his arrest today (not to mention his knife). EDIT: His arrest may have involved urinating in public...

But what strikes me about that video is his reaction time. It's almost like there's a lag in things registering for him when other people approach. Things don't seem to be clicking normally. I'm the first to admit I'm no expert, though, so it's probably my imagination.
