IMO they had to give their best judgement (from the info they had available at the time) to update the students' parents and release the lockdown.

They couldn't leave the parents wondering if there was a murderer walking the halls of the school their children were in when they didn't believe that to be the case. And they couldn't leave the children on lockdown until the medical examiner was done.

JMO

If that is what even happened. We have only heard that from a poster here. Nothing official right?

They could simply call an early dismissal and keep the gym locked down.

Mighty talented those law enforcement folks...qualified to determine manner of death..... Like it's their job to do so ...
Why even have a coroner ?

They would be able to watch the video of who entered and exited the gym for a significant time period before and after Kendrick. Then they could start the process of elimination from there. If they found that no one was in the gym during that time, for long enough to commit a crime, then there is only one other answer and that would be this is a freak accident.

I think the gym was kept locked down correct? It was the location of an active investigation.

Reading the post by the local, I get the feeling the school system was trying to inform parents of what was happening. That's not official investigative findings.
I think they were actually convinced it was an accident so that's the info they relayed.

Certainly nobody took what they said as official findings.

Or they shouldn't have anyway.

It is their job to gather facts and investigate. They didn't officially determine the manner of death. They form an opinion after making observations.
Only the medical examiner can determine the manner of death.

Just like if LE comes to the scene and someone is shot in the head. They can say "he was murdered. Died from a gunshot to the head" because that's what they observe. But it's not official until the ME signs his/her report.

I know... Sorry... I forgot to add my sarcasm warning to my post.
And truth be told... We don't know for a fact that's what happened.

Oh I got that you were being sarcastic.

I just think most people know that initial observations and calls by investigators often change or should I say evolve as the investigation continues.
And initials statements are often wrong or misleading. It happens very often early into investigations. Just part of it.

Goodnight all. I hope you all have a great night.

I pray for answers for this family who I know loved Kendrick with everything in them.
I pray they find peace and comfort knowing people do care for their son. We all want answers.

Nite!

The videos which don't even show the area where the mats are kept? Now that is some mighty fine policin'.

Somebody was in a hurry to get home for dinner, IMO. :twocents:

Wrap this up quick. I gotta be somewhere.

And you have to love (not) that they already "wrapped it up" before the coroner arrived. :banghead:

I was talking about the school, not the police. They were busy investigating for several hours, with the GBI.

Don't know if it has been posted here anywhere, but after searching for info on the old gym I found two videos on YouTube- search lowndes winter guard. I can count three exit/entry doors in at least one video. I also assume there is at least one more not including any to locker rooms. Both videos also show the mat corner. I could see items around the mats and one looks like it has stuff in it. It also looks like there are some mats being stored vertically, although they might not be mats.

Thank you! Excellent find!!!!
I knew there had to be more doors! Nice to know I'm not crazy!

From Yoda's suggested link to gym - these mats look like a kid could wiggle his way into one.

Thanks Salem - edited to add pic w/o minors. I know some can't play videos on phones, etc.

Is there any reason to believe LE did a bad job investigating this case?
