If there is no real evidence of such I can't imagine why anyone would want to go there and imply something like that! It is degrading to ALL parties involved and for what benefit???

No, it's not -- discussing what was done to Lauren in no way reflects on her, whatsoever.

There is no 'benefit' beyond trying to understand the truth of what happened. This wasn't some spur-of-the-moment panic killing, as McDaniel is now trying to portray it. She wasn't killed because a petty burglarer had a situation spin out of control.

He intended to end her life, and he methodically planned how to do it. What was he motivated by? What was his goal? He wanted something out of her death.

And his computer history provides evidence of his subjective motivations. I don't throw around the word "evil" lightly, but it applies here, and McDaniel's whitewashing of the story should be understood for what it is.

Yes nobody knows, least of all the public, so speculating on an extreme perversity like "cannibalism" seems uncalled for.

...but people will speculate. I do understand why. There were rumors from EARLY on of this kind of stuff, and then there were the computer tidbits that we just barely heard about before the gag order. No proof, but plenty to fuel speculation.

Maybe when the case file is released we will get a little more insight. His just visiting a weirdo website or two is not going to convince me. If he frequented these, or if the timing is especially significant...well, maybe that's a different story. Even then, possibly he was looking for instructions on dismemberment only. We may just never know.

I don't know yet what I think about the allocution vs. what really happened. I really don't. Thinking about it really hard.

I'm sure all of this is nightmare ground the Giddings have crossed many times in their own speculatons, but I do hope they are able -- possibly with things they have been told that are not in the allocution?? -- to eventually put some fears to rest.

Yeah I used to visit macon.com every day but since they went to the facebook comments the site isn't really fun anymore, the comments/discussions were always the best part. I have a safe facebook account but still since very few people post in response to stories there isn't much reason to bother with the site.

Sonya, I wonder if they may have disabled commenting on the stories about this case during the time of the gag order...? Don't know that, just wondering.

I can tell you that on at least one of the stories (the one I linked when speaking of a comment in my post a few posts above) there seemed to be a good many folks commenting.

I've just got to share this (de-briefing, therapy, whatever!): I very seriously considered going to the "motions hearing" on Monday.

I figured that, since it was unlikely that I would get to attend any of the trial in Henry Co., maybe I should go down to the Bibb. Co. courthouse and attend at least one court proceeding for this case I have followed so long and so hard. But then I kind of talked myself out of it, as it would have required making a lot of arrangements so that I could get away, and unexpected stuff occurred on the home front, etc., etc. After all, it was probably going to be just a pretty routine hearing.... Hah.

I guess I missed my big chance, for sure.

I actually, in most ways, am glad I was not there. I really think I might have passed out in the courtroom or something, if I had walked in there, seen all the Giddings family and friends, and then got the shock of the guilty plea. Oh, boy. That would have been awful.

Fortunately for me, up until now I hadn't seen this case. Unfortunately for me, my daughter is going off to college soon. How do I teach her to protect herself from people like this? I know I'm getting her her own personal lock and installing it, the heck with what the apartment owner says.

(It's not like you can, but you just want to lock your family up in a giant fortress these days.....)

haha, the murder and dismemberment is degrading enough TO ALL PARTIES INVOLVED !! But SM said he's not without all decency and morals or whatever so maybe he didnt'......

Clearly the public knew not a whole lot of anything, and there has been a whole lot of speculation on everything, but the fact that anything similar was mentioned early on, and the simple dismemberment fact with no chance to recover the remains and no cadaver dogs found anything, (which I dont' fully trust but some do), makes one ponder the idea that came up originally, early in the case, Gotta wonder. Like he was going to tell that in his allocution, I think not. SO maybe or maybe not, but it does clearly cross peoples minds I suppose.

Sonya, that's why they call Jackson the Diagnostic and classification System, he will be diagnosed and classified and they will figure out where to send him. I am sure we will know fairly soon . I don't have a whole lot to add to this sad story, there was a lot of very damning evidence that hadn't been made public that caused the confession. I am like the majority of you I don't believe much of the allocution as regards not assaulting her sexually or eating body parts . It would serve little purpose for McD to confess to that though, so good for him that he did spare the family some of the gruesome details of his craziness. I do wonder from a psychological standpoint, though, he is now down to 125 pounds. When he was first incarcerated he couldn't sleep and was losing weight. These are signs of stress. If he truly is a sociopath, would this be happening to him ? Only someone with some type of conscience would experience these feelings , although it might be he is just worried that he got caught. Lots of opinions on how life in prison will be for him. There was a child molester recently found dead in a prison here in Georgia, Milledgeville I think . Stephen should not last long, in my opinion, or if he does it will be because he has made a deal , like Richard Speck did , to sell his body for protection. No winners at all here . Just makes you want to cry at the waste of life

Well I think SM said on the blog what he would do if he was ever caught or suspected of a murder , so maybe the weight loss was part of his original plan

I think narcissists probably care more about what people think and the way I understand psychopathy, narcissism is a large symptom of that.

So I think he cares more about how people SEE HIM than about what he actually did JMO

My children stayed close to home for college but it seems that everything weighed against LG. Next door to a freak #1, coming back home without her dog, butterbean could have been her saving grace, but who was to know. The odd thing too is that she was RIGHT ACROSS from the Law school, on a major thoroughfare, who would have thought something like this could happen there. Looking at this case, I'd look at the neighbors if she's in a private rental, yeah I'd change the locks too, get a dog, nothing like a barking dog to alert for trouble and mace AND hornet spray, right in the eyes, but all you can do is try

13WMAZ has some new videos up, detectives from the case speaking about various topics:

ETA: I think they have the wrong titles on the videos, they're kinda jumbled up -- maybe they'll fix soon or...y'all figure it out.

ETA again: found another location for one of the videos, hoping they're all right now -- if not, just hunt around the 13WMAZ web site and you'll find 'em eventually.

My world is sort of spinning right now, big changes going on, because my daughter is about to begin graduate school AND she (and her dog) are about to move from home and, along with my daughter's boyfriend, into an apartment in Macon not very far at all from where Lauren lived. All kinds of emotions going on on this one, let me tell ya!

My daughter didn't follow Lauren's case nearly as intensely as I have, but of course she has been well aware of it. She said to me last night that it has really made her re-think some things about safety and security and about hesitating to "seem rude" to people who strike her as a little odd. She is fairly safety-conscious anyhow, I think, but you know, when you are young, there are a million things you do without ever thinking you might be in the line of danger. Well, at any age, really, but especially when young. I sure don't want her to live a life filled with fear...but I am glad she is pondering some of this stuff.

I looked up gynophagia. I very much don't recommend it. But the pictures are pretty much exclusively young women being cooked, dismembered, and devoured. And yes, some of the pictures depict torsos that are in precisely the same state as how Lauren was found.

Thanks for posting this.
I was about to google it- glad I didn't. Eww.

McDaniel’s parting shot: I was wronged

...In a handwritten salvo, which his lawyers passed to the judge unceremoniously, the confessed killer of Lauren Giddings said he was wronged by the system. ...

...McDaniel also describes his encounter with the media. ...

..."While on the verge of hyperventilating, I suffered what an Emergency Medical Technician diagnosed as a seizure,” McDaniel wrote.

He said he lost consciousness and then was placed in the police Mobile Command Center ... that was parked in front of the apartments.

McDaniel alleges an EMT was barred from giving him further aid and that authorities bargained with him, saying they’d let him be treated if he let them search his apartment. ...

Eating body parts? There is absolutely NO reason to believe he had cannibalistic tendencies, in fact in one of his old internet posts he mentioned the risks of eating human flesh, cannibal wannabes don't point out those minor details. He was not a cannibal, that whole idea came up with the silly troll post.

He has a lot more to offer in prison than just his body; he has a law degree from a prestigious law school in a place where most everyone wants/needs legal advice (including prison gang leaders).

I am now more concerned about what Backwoods said regarding suicide, that is probably far more of a concern than inmates torturing him.

This action on the part of SM is telling. What percentage of the population does anyone think even knows the risks of eating human flesh much less posts about it on the internet? IMO, he is one sick (not physically) individual.

pearl, if I am recalling his post about this correctly, there was a book, science/medical, whatever -- and I think it was a somewhat popular/well-recognized one a few years back, but I can't think of the name of it right off-- from which he had learned a lot of it, and I believe he had to read the book for one of his courses (so he posted). Of course, that doesn't mean it's not possible that he found it of particular interest.

PLENTY of people do! I have known about it for ages, in fact just 2 days ago I posted about Kuru/Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease and cannibalism on a chicken forum during a discussion about the origins of Mad Cow Disease and kitchen scraps as livestock food.

And yes, the suggestion of cannibalism simply as prurient conjecture IS imo degrading to the victim; think about what happens to the food you eat, the food ends up being excreted as $--- into a toilet after a couple of days.

That letter is a trip. Poor widdle baby, did the mean police officers hurt his feel-feels?

He contends the police used "peer pressure and preconceived deception" to get him to agree to a search of his apartment.

So... they used police work to do their jobs? CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATION!!

When police and prosecutors can only obtain evidence and convictions by violating people's rights and testifying falsely, and when courts ratify such misconduct by the refusal to exclude evidence, the entire system of criminal justice becomes a sham to conceal that those entrusted with upholding the law are its worst violators.
Ah, yes, let's not forget about the real victim here. But Stephen, didn't you just get a law degree? And doesn't that mean that you should know better than 99% of the rest of the population, that Rule #1 of dealing with the police is Never Consent to Anything? There's no law that says the cops can't use jedi mind tricks during investigations, and if you are stupid enough to fall for it, that's on you. The reason the evidence didn't get excluded was because there was no goddamned fouth amendment violation, and also, even if there were, it wasn't getting excluded in your case because the exclusionary rule wouldn't have applied. You'd have been a sucky lawyer, jackass.

In addition to everything else, I feel so much contempt for that pathetic piece of ****.

Excellent post, Hyrax . Thank you.

IMO
When a human being can do what SM did: premediate Lauren's murder, then dismember her and put her body parts in the trash - then ANYTHING he imagined is a strong possibility and most likely happened.

Anyone who can do what he did has gone down the rabbit hole of pure evil where there are NO BOUNDARIES.
Anything and everything is a possibility as to what SM did once he subdued Lauren.

There are too many clues found on his computer, SOL posts and on his internet searches that suggest he was intrigued with cannabalism and torture prior to the murder.

So as for me, not for one minute second do I believe his confession tale.
Remember the video how SM rambled on prior to finding out that Lauren's torso had been discovered?
SM: "She was out running and maybe someone just snatched her"

I believe SM is pure evil and a liar.

There is much much more to the events of Lauren's last night.

The book is Deadly Feasts. He said that he read it during freshman year as an undergrad, but he didn't indicate he was required to read it for a class.

ETA: For a person diagnosed with "a seizure", who "could barely breathe", and was "barely conscious", in an "impaired state", suffering "impaired vision", he sure has a good recollection of the details, right down to the facial features of the EMT. Yet we should accept that he simply could not recall that he murdered Lauren.

After being told by a reporter that Giddings had been found on the property, “I collapsed from the mental and emotional shock of the news, because, despite my own actions, at the time, my mental state was such that I was unaware of her death,” McDaniel wrote.
