Garrett Rolfe fired cop in Rayshard Brooks shooting reinstated | 11alive.com
"Due to the City’s failure to comply with several provisions of the Code and the information received during witnesses’ testimony, the Board concludes the Appellant was not afforded his right to due process. Therefore, the Board GRANTS the Appeal of Garrett Rolfe and revokes his dismissal as an employee of the APD."
Going to be interesting to see what happens now. I think this was going to be the end result because of how fast they did it and the way they went about it
So, the Board stopped short of clearing his name. How convenient for them that they are reinstating him on the technicality that due process wasn't followed. Although, they don't articulate specifically how it was not followed.
MOO, for over a year most high profile instances in which LE have been fired, they've received that fate without the benefit of due process. So, why stop now? Why? Because they are going to try to COA with the due process technicalities instead of having the constitution to say, "We were wrong. We caved to social pressure at the expense of these 2 officers' reputations."
I would like to see these 2 cleared, period, and in plain English, publicly. Certainly, he wouldn't be on the job if it had been deemed a bad shoot. They've had nearly a year to investigate. Yes, it's going to take someone willing to put the careers of these 2 officers potentially ahead of their own political aspirations, as there could be fallout. But, right is right and wrong is still wrong, regardless of how many ways an angry mob and those that give them a platform try to spin it. The Board wouldn't be in this predicament if they hadn't been so reactionary and eager to appease an, at times, out-of-control mob and the political "activists" who literally fanned the flames.
If a mob burns down the local Wendy's, in addition to prosecuting those responsible, why not board it up and raze it? Why should their illegal actions be rewarded with a peace center at that location? Wouldn't a peace center be in more capable hands if we award it to those in the neighborhood who actually act in a peaceful manner? How about a family learning center with space attached for athletic, music, and arts programming? Wouldn't it be wonderful to build something that fortifies family and community bonds AND recognizes those who have been striving for peace all along?
BTW, my post has nothing to do with race. The crowd that gathered and eventually torched the Wendy's was multicultural and multi-generational, proving that one can be a real knucklehead at any age and with any amount, or lack of, melanin.
