Circumstances surrounding the death of a 40-year-old Cumming woman at an overnight party have raised enough questions on social media that the party hosts have issued a statement defending themselves against accusations of “murder.”

Tamla Horsford, 40, was found dead in the backyard of a home in Cumming on Nov. 4, 2018. Horsford had attended an overnight party at the home, with 10 other adults.

Sheriffs office closes the case stating her injuries support the witness statements she was intoxicated and fell over the railing.

Family Autopsy says she had injuries that resulted after she already died and her body was thrown over the railing.

Murder? Accident ? Drugged?

Glad to see their taking a second look. Even if it was a fall, that seems rather odd.

Case of mom found dead in backyard after overnight house party to be re-examined

The case of a mother's mysterious death is getting a renewed look, more than 18 months after she was found dead in the backyard of a Forsyth County home.

Tamla Horsford, 40, was attending an overnight house party for adults back in November 2018 when she died. Horsford's death was ruled an accident, but the story became the center of a viral social media controversy.

But the case will be reopened after the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office officially requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation do so.

"Renewed requests for reexamination are best served by an independent law enforcement agency to review previous findings and to search and act on any new evidence which may come to light," Sheriff Ron Freeman wrote in a letter to GBI Director Vic Reynolds, and posted on the sheriff's office's Facebook page.

"We recognize that transparency is vital for law enforcement agencies and we want to ensure that no stone has been left unturned in the investigation of this tragic death."

The case was initially closed in February of 2019, after the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said it spent 300 hours investigating the situation, including conducting more than 30 interviews with party guests and others connected to the event.

But on Wednesday, the case was thrust back into the conversation after an attorney representing Horsford's family issued a statement suggesting that the mother of five was killed - and accused local law enforcement of covering it up.

In a letter to Tamala's widower, attorney Ralph E. Fernandez said after an "exhaustive review" of records from the case by his team, they found that "a homicide is a strong possibility."

‘Homicide is a strong possibility’ | Shocking new development in the death of Tamla Horsford

Now, more than 18 months since the death, an attorney representing the Horsford family has made a statement suggesting the mother of five was killed, and further accusing local law enforcement of aiding in the cover up.

“The review reflects that a homicide is a strong possibility. Witness statements are in conflict. A potential subject handled the body as well as the evidence prior to the law enforcement arrival.” The letter goes on to state “A remarkable fact is that there were no photographs taken during the autopsy of Tamla’s body This had been done at someone’s directive because such a practice is unheard of.”

Fernandez then makes a bold statement, contradicting the original report from the medical examiner that Horsford’s death was an accident. “It appears Tamla was involved in a struggle. There were abrasions noted consistent with that scenario. There were parallel scratches to one arm.” The letter goes on to state the difficulties of getting the records from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, pointing out “the case agent was a close friend of a subject, who turned out to be the leak of the ongoing investigation.” Fernandez states “I have come to the conclusion that the truth never had a chance here.”

Has anyone listened to this on Crime Junkie? It’s very, very interesting and something is not right here.
Yes, I just listened to this audio from Crime Junkie and came here to see what discussions/articles I could read up on and sadly there is only one page of comments for Tamla.
I hope that something will come from the new investigation.

The Unanswered Questions of Tamla Horsford's Death
Snips:

The party, held the evening of November 3rd, 2018, was originally meant to be all women. But Meyers’ boyfriend, Jose Barrerra, and Tom Smith, the husband of another attendee, ended up sticking around. In the end, the group — who advocates for Horsford would later dub the Forsyth 12 — included nine women, two men, and one husband who, according to police interviews, only dropped off and picked up his wife. Out of these 12, eight were planning to spend the night — as was Tamla.

While the women drank, socialized, and watched the LSU-Alabama game upstairs, Barrerra and Smith watched football in Meyers’ finished basement. During this time, Horsford — the only habitual smoker at the party — regularly stepped out to the balcony for cigarettes. She also smoked marijuana that evening, but Meyers asked her to stop. According to Meyers’ own statement, she had teased Horsford during the conversation, calling her the “female Bob Marley,” and reminding her that Barrerra worked as a pre-trial officer and did not approve. Eventually, the men joined the party and the group played Cards Against Humanity; photographs and videos captured during the game show Horsford smiling, happy. She had been drinking tequila, and would later be found to have a significant BAC, but according to photos, videos, and witness accounts, Horsford didn’t appear particularly drunk that evening. Guests who weren’t spending the night began to leave around 11:30pm, while those who were staying trickled off to bed over the next couple of hours.

Horsford was Bridget Fuller, who was picked up by her husband at 1:47. In her statement, Fuller says that Horsford was eating a bowl of gumbo, and had said she planned to smoke a cigarette and head to bed. Over the next ten minutes, the home security system registered the back door opening, closing, and then opening again — for the last time — at 1:57 a.m.

Around 8:45 the next morning, Madeline Lombardi, Meyers’ aunt who lived at the house, headed into the kitchen to make her morning cup of coffee. In her interview with police, Lombardi describes seeing something chilling through the window, in the backyard: The white dog-print onesie. It was Horsford, face down in the grass, not moving. After saying a prayer, Lombardi headed upstairs to find Meyers, telling her something appeared to be wrong with her “friend from the islands.” (Horsford was born in the Caribbean but moved to the U.S. when she was 11.)

Outrage and Unanswered Questions: Why the 2018 Death of Tamla Horsford Is Under Investigation Again - E! Online
Snips:

50 Cent and T.I. were among the thousands of people who started tweeting and posting on Instagram about Tamla again in June, most of the posts insisting that something criminal had occurred, despite the official findings that her death was an accident. A Change.org petition to reopen the case has since garnered almost 650,000 signatures.

With outside pressure mounting, Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman sent a letter to Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vic Reynolds on June 12 formally requesting that the agency "open an investigation and examine any new evidence which may be available," the sheriff's office confirmed in a statement. The sheriff assured Reynolds that his office would fully cooperate and turn over their entire case file to the GBI.

"We recognize that transparency is vital for law enforcement agencies and we want to ensure that no stone has been left unturned in the investigation of this tragic death. Any questions regarding the case need to be directed to the GBI," the statement read.

On June 18, the Forsyth County News, citing the GBI's public affairs director, reported that the state agency had agreed to Freeman's request to open an investigation.

A spokesperson for the GBI told E! News this week that they could not confirm there was an investigation because they hadn't formally announced one, but that didn't mean there was not an investigation.

Authorities have reopened an investigation.

Family of Black Woman Who Died Attending a Slumber Party in Georgia Speaks Publicly for the First Time: ‘None of This Makes Sense’

Snips:
The family of Tamla Horsford, a 40-year-old mother of five, is speaking out for the first time about her mysterious death at a 2018 slumber party in Forsyth County, Ga.

Horsford, who was the only Black attendee of the slumber party, was found the next day face down in the backyard of the home. Police ruled her death an accident, stating that, under the influence of alcohol, Xanax and marijuana, she must have fallen from a second-story deck of the house.

But that story never made sense to Horsford’s family, who speculated foul play early on in the investigation due to the nature of her injuries.

Just ran across this thread. I got the impression several attendees said Tamla didn't appear to be intoxicated. This doesn't make sense if they were trying to cover up a murder.

Well, he may not have thrown her but did he push her or cause her to fall?

Was It Murder? Death of Beloved Mom at Party Was Ruled Accidental Fall — But Family Is Suspicious

After the family's demands, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reinvestigating the 2018 death of Tamla Horsford

Based on police observations that morning of Nov. 4, 2018, Tamla's husband, Leander, says he was told that authorities suspected she tripped over some garden edging — a hazard that Meyers' aunt said she also had stumbled over in the past — and suffered a fatal injury.

But as the extent of her injuries became known, authorities later theorized that Tamla had died after a fall from a second-floor deck. She had blunt force trauma to her head, neck and extremities, including a broken neck and dislocated wrist, that were inconsistent with a slight fall, and alcohol in her system at nearly three times the legal driving limit, according to an autopsy

But in the interim, local media found records that revealed Meyers' then-boyfriend Jose Barerra — one of two men who were also at the home that night — had used his role as a Forsyth County pretrial services officer to access records in the case. Barerra was fired from his job. According to a police-interview transcript obtained by PEOPLE, when he was asked if he'd thrown Tamla over the deck, he replied, "No, I did not."

Just reading about this. Initially, despite the chatter on social media, etc. I found the idea of this being an accident to be very believable - the most plausible scenario, IMO. However, listening to the 911 call triggered my hinky meter a bit. That, along with some of the other question marks, has me wondering... MOO

Thoughts, anyone?
