Garth Brooks accused of raping make-up artist in lawsuit - October 3, 2024

Here's one problem I have with her allegations. She basically says that she has no proof of anything inappropriate that he said to her over the phone, because it was either in a voice call or in a text, and she claims that Brooks himself got into her phone at some (late) point and deleted everything incriminating! Here's how it's worded in the filing:

106. In addition to phone calls, there were multiple text exchanges between Brooks and Ms. Roe with sexually explicit content. Again, showing that Brooks knew exactly what he has done to her, one day in 2020 when she was on site at a studio to style Brooks’ hair and do his makeup, he took her phone and deleted most of the text messages that he had sent to her.

(So she has no texts as proof, which her lawyer frames as yet more proof that he is guilty! And then she has one more explanation for why there can be found no explicit texts sent to her by Brooks on her phone:)

107. Brooks uses more than one cell phone, and sometimes would use different “names” and email addresses to communicate with Ms. Roe. He would tell Ms. Roe ahead of time that it would be him sending her communications, under a different name.

(So by saying this, she could show an explicit text sent to her by... ANYONE (even herself?), and claim that this was one sent by Brooks one of those times he used an alias! But she would know it was really sent by him, of course, because she made sure to include that part about him telling her in advance that he was going to do this and what name she should watch for! That just sounds very contrived to me. And convenient, for her!)

Then there is one text that she was able to include in the filing because it for some reason wasn't deleted, and I have a lot of skepticism about it, but I have to go back to look it up first, so that's for another post.

I'm not buying he sent her abusive texts under multiple names and numbers. But if true that someone sent her messages, they should still be in a database somewhere, right?

It depends on the platform used. Some encrypt and delete messages instantly, or after a specified period of time. It they were sent over a regular cell via text (i.e. a pocket computer), there is generally metadata that stores information, even if the texts are deleted.

Even if there is no metadata, there would be records (network data) to show that their phones potentially interacted with each other via pings to towers/each other's numbers.

As I said in my last post, there's one text message included in the filing that makes no sense to me, in that, the way I read it, it only serves to make the victim look bad, and not Brooks, which, I'm sure was not her intention. Which may just mean I'm reading it wrong, but you can see if you agree after reading it. The filing says:

108. Although Brooks thought he deleted everything on Ms. Roe’s phone, he did not, and some texts remain, including those in which he encouraged Ms. Roe to speak in a sexualized manner to him, such as this message referring to his “huge stick”:

So I have to assume the text in blue is what SHE said, and his reply is underneath, since it would make no sense for a woman to ever be called by this "nickname" of Roosevelt, referring to his "huge stick"! So it shows that she was, at least in this text, the one who was flirting or making sexual innuendo-laden remarks to HIM, willfully cooperating in such talk, possibly initiating such (depending on what was said in the redacted part, the redaction of which, btw, adds even more doubt in my mind - what could that have said and why redact that? Looks like it was something more that SHE said, not him).

I see no other way that can be interpreted. But if that's how it was, then why would they include this text?? And it seems that they thought this is the worst one they could find, otherwise they would have included others. While he doesn't appear as a saintly innocent here, it certainly isn't anything too outrageous, or that could have hurt her to the tune of millions of dollars and much more in bad publicity for him. Especially when imo, it shows her complicit in this sexual banter.

They do include some copy/pastes of other texts earlier in the filing, but these, imo, are more talking of things related to what looks like her setting the stage for this filing. They don't include any sexual innuendo or flirting etc. They're mostly of him gushing compliments and apologies for ever having made her feel uncomfortable, etc. As if he were perhaps suddenly aware that she might be thinking of using some of their earlier consensual sexual talk, and possibly more than just talk, against her in a future lawsuit, imo.

But it's this text about "Roosevelt" that confuses me and leaves me with even more doubt as to her claims. And in case there is anyone who doesn't get the reference because they don't know the quote by Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the US, their text is referring to this:

"Theodore Roosevelt once famously said, 'Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.'. This quote encapsulates the essence of effective leadership and diplomacy."

And this is the part that I found hard to believe would even be physically possible: WARNING: GRAPHIC:

at some point during the nightmare, Brooks even held her small body upside down by her feet and penetrated her. 9. She was helpless to move from his grip and terrified at what was happening to her. While he held her upside down, dangling by her ankles -- all the blood rushed to her head, causing her to be dizzy and sick. While Brooks forcefully penetrated her, he said perverted things to Ms. Roe about his sexual prowess.

I find this to be far fetched. Perhaps I’m not adventurous or my hubby isn’t agile —- but this seems physically impossible, especially when I consider Garth’s physique. Clearly, MOO.

I laughed at Roosevelt and "gallons"....

I am questioning why a woman would blow up her career if this is a shake down. She's a celebrity hair and make up artist, who's going to hire her now? I am also interested in seeing what Trisha will do. Is she standing by her man? She's a strong woman, I don't see her taking this well if there's any truth to it.
I'll be tuning in to see how this plays out. All JMO

That is precisely what I thought when I read it. Why would you say something like that to someone who you claim committed sexual violence against you? And elsewhere, she talks about feeling uncomfortable with the talk amongst several people turned sexual. She doesn't seem too uncomfortable here.

I'm wondering why a celebrity hair and make up artist who works with Nashville-based performers would move from Nashville to Meridian, Mississippi. Perhaps her career was already going downhill?

Perhaps the rumor mill too? Good point about the move. I wonder what happened in 2019 for her to be having financial issues too.

IMO, she is not in high demand/doesn't have a dream career to protect, because she says so herself.
From this article, "He knew how much she needed work."

It's possible he's innocent and she thought she'd submit an anonymous claim that would be embarrassing to him if it came out and that she'd get a quiet settlement.

It's also possible he is one of the sociopaths we hear about.

But her claims feel "off" to me at this time.
