I posted this link over in the Bryants thread, but wanted to add it here as it also refers to the his imprisonment for Cheryl's death. They seem to be rightly focused on him.

State Attorney Willie Meggs said after Hilton’s sentence in the Bryants’ case, the killer will be promptly returned to Florida’s death row. The agreement, he said, is confirmed with federal officials.

“We loaned him to them,” Meggs said. “We will go get him.”

Serial killer Hilton gets life in Pisgah slayings

ASHEVILLE-NC — Holly Bryant would have preferred a death sentence for the serial killer who took the lives of her parents, but she takes solace in knowing he won’t kill again.

Gary Michael Hilton, who faces the death penalty in Florida, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without parole for kidnapping, robbing and murdering John and Irene Bryant while they were out for a hike in Pisgah National Forest in 2007.

“He will spend the rest of his life and die in a cage or at the hands of a Florida executioner,” Holly Bryant said after the hearing in U.S. District Court in Asheville. “But the main thing is he will never get out to harm anyone again.”

"What info, other than other unknown victims, did GMH have to bargain with for the Bryant murders"? Did he have associates. How many unknown victims?
Serial Killer Gary Hilton, offered FL Prosecutors the identities of 32 unknown victims enroute to Florida from Jackson Prison, GA. FL prosecutors refused to negotiate, although GMH will never live to see the death penalty carried out, imo. GMH would have also held back other unknown victims identities for negotiating with the Feds in the NC trial, imo.

In April 2011, Hilton was convicted and received a death sentence for the murder of Cheryl Dunlap in Leon County, Florida. Hilton is also serving a life sentence for his conviction related to the 2008 murder of Meredith Emerson in Northern Georgia. At today’s sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger ordered that Hilton’s federal life sentences be served consecutively with the sentences he received for the state convictions in Florida and Georgia.

All federal sentences are served without the possibility of parole.

I think the four life sentences were all for the Bryants.
One each for the kidnapping and one each for the murder.

Convicted killer Gary Michael Hilton will have to wait to pursue his latest appeal.

A judge today postponed an upcoming hearing, because a forensic psychologist scheduled to testify died.

This morning, a judge set a new evidentiary hearing for January 2016 and okayed funds for Hilton's defense team to hire a new psychologist.

Hilton is on death row for the 2007 murder of Crawfordville Sunday School teacher and FSU nurse Cheryl Dunlap.

Defense attorney Alex Morris also told the judge that Hilton's health is declining and the convicted serial killer may not be well enough to travel for the January hearing.

The only problem with that is there are other cases that have not been solved that point to GMH. I wonder if LE is even trying to connect the dots at this point. I also wonder what makes them think his health is declining. He could pull the wool over anyone's eyes to get what he wanted.

The U.S. Supreme Court struck down Florida's unique capital sentencing system on Tuesday in a ruling that found the state gives too much power to judges, and not enough to juries, to impose the death penalty.

In an 8-1 opinion, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, writing for the majority, said that the state's sentencing procedure is unconstitutional because juries play an advisory role in recommending life or death. State law requires judges to make the final decision, after giving "great weight" to jurors' recommendations.

Cagle said he and his investigators also got word from authorities in Florida who told them of a 2007 missing person case in Apalachicola National Forest near Tallahassee. On Dec. 3 of that year, Cheryl Dunlap, 46, who worked as a nurse, was reported missing after she didn't report to her job.

Her car was later found abandoned on the side of the road.

On Dec. 15, 2007, a hunter who was hiking in Apalachicola National Forest found the remains of a body without a head. A DNA test would confirm the body was Dunlap's.

Investigators had little to go with in their pursuit of a suspect, other than reports of a person who was seen using Dunlap's ATM card shortly after her disappearance.

"You're dealing with hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of miles of national forests. We know of no witnesses to how her body got there, so there's nobody to interview on what they saw," said Tim Baxter, a retired lieutenant for the Leon County Sheriff’s Department who investigated Dunlap's murder.

Cheryl Hodges Dunlap, age 46, Murdered 15 December 2007.

A native of Tallahassee, FL, Mrs. Dunlap was a lifelong resident of Wakulla County. She was a graduate of the nursing program at Tallahassee Community College and was a registered nurse at Thagard Student Health Center at Florida State University. Mrs. Dunlap was an active member of River of Life Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and a prayer warrior. She was a graduate of the FIRE School of Ministry in Pensacola and served on mission trips to China, Haiti and twice to Mexico. She volunteered her time and talents to the relief efforts in Pensacola following Hurricane Ivan. She is survived by... Funeral Services were held at River of Life Church in Crawfordville, FL.

Mrs. Dunlap was murdered. Her body was found in the Apalachicola National Forest.
