So, it sounds like a fairly local route, not crossing borders.

Edited to add...or am I reading this wrong? Is it a 34-minute commuter route or what? I'll check the map, but maybe someone knows quicker than I can check.

jmo

Yes, a short route, about 40 or so kilometers.

Düsseldorf - The nightmare begins at 8:15 pm on Thursday evening in the S 28 [train] at Düsseldorf's main railway station. According to the police, an attacker hit apparently indiscriminately passengers with an axe. First in the S-Bahn, later on the platform of track 13 and even in the station hall. After the attack a trail of blood is visible on the floor of the hall. A total of five people (three men, two women) have been injured, one person is in a serious condition. Panic, chaos, large police force. Helicopters take off. The train traffic is halted and the station has been closed.

An eyewitness to BILD: "I've seen the man. On the ground there was already blood, I believe I have seen two bodies on the rail tracks."

The perpetrator was allegedly a southern type of around 30 years.

Another eyewitness to BILD: "A person was bleeding from the side of his neck."

I was wondering what "southern type" meant?

Eyewitness reports the aftermath of the attack

A young woman who stepped into an S-Bahn in the direction of Mettmann reported about a 13-year-old girl who had been injured with the ax. The gaping wound on the upper arm was described by this witness as if someone had struck an ax in a tree. "I helped her care for the wound and called her parents," the woman said. Fortunately, there was a first aid kit on the train with which the victim could be helped.

A man in his late 20's had been drawn by his friend into the train, apparently unconscious. He was hurt at the head, but later on he was conscious again. In the train several passengers had immediately taken care of the man. Meanwhile, the train had now halted, and policemen of the special forces were standing everywhere.

The train driver had closed the doors, eyewitness report. Some passengers demanded to be allowed to leave the train. Since the doors could not be opened individually, everyone had to stay in the train. It was only when the federal police arrived that the driver opened all the doors. He said, "You are safe now, the police are on the railway." The passengers were not allowed to leave the starion. They are questioned by the police as witnesses.

Another witness describes the attacker

Tobias Schneeberger (30) from Ratingen also became an eyewitness. He reports that he has waiting at 8:50 pm with his girlfriend and four children (aged nine months, two, five and seven years) on track 10 for the S6 direction Cologne. In front of them on track 13, the S28 to Mettmann arrived. According to Schneeberger's observation, the perpetrator got out of the train and ran up and down with an ax on the platform.

He describes the man as between 30 and 40 years old, with the appearance of a drug addict. He allegedly looked like a German. The people had run away screaming, bags had flown around. The trains had been honking permanently - "to irritate the perpetrator". The culprit then apparently ran over from track 13 to track 10. "I concluded this from the movement of screaming people," Schneeberger. said. He had pushed his girlfriend and children into the elevator they were standing next to. "I put myself before the children so they would not see the man." They then went down the elevator and left the station.

I'm still confused - was the 13yo victim on the train with him? He started attacking on the train itself?

Unclear, I guess, for the moment. Perhaps in the morning the news will have a comprehensive report.

Speedy recovery to the victims and witnesses. Plenty of gratitude that no one was killed.

In reading reports of people "on the track," I think they mean on the waiting area for the train. What we might call the platform, the reports are calling "on the track."

I was thinking people were running on the train tracks, but that does not seem to be the case.

Others might have already figured that out....I can be slow, lol!

According to the police, the two cases are not related. But who in his right mind would cut an old man with a machete or a big knife in a forest area??

Hi ZAzARA!

DÜSSELDORF POLICE: AXE ATTACKER IS ASYLUM SEEKER

https://philosophia-perennis.com/2017/03/10/duesseldorf-axt/

During the press conference on yesterday's axe raid, a new report from the Düsseldorf region emerged: In the vicinity of the station Düsseldorf-Kalkum a perpetrator with a machete would be on the loose and he would already have seriously injured at least one person.

About the perpetrator of yesterday evening the first assumptions were confirmed:

The man comes from Kosovo and is staying in Germany as an asylum seeker. He was already known to the police.

It is interesting that the person in charge at the press conference mentioned the asylum status of the perpetrator with the apologetic comment that the press would be asking about this anyway.

During the first search of the apartment, no evidence of a religious or political background was found, instead a medical certificate of the mental illness of the perpetrator was located. Shortly after the raid, and even before the name and exact origin of the offender were clear, media had reported of his mental illness.

However, the police were not yet able to completely exclude a terrorist background, since mobile phones and other electronic devices have not yet been evaluated.

Among the nine victims known so far is a 13-year-old child. The girl was seriously injured. The other injured are between 30 and 50 years old.

This is how my son Domenico lies in the intensive care unit at the UNI ...
Amoklauf in Duesseldorf at the main station
Someone attacked him from behind and knocked an axe into his head. He was in surgery for a long time.
The media play it all down
This is bad and incomprehensible
You may also share this ...I love you my son

Meanwhile, Domenico has regained consciousness.
