I think GM is "fishing" for information that may have been passed on to the PJ. Witness statements to be specific. They are at a definite disadvantage not knowing what the PJ know.

And that is just how it should be....
Good point! I think you're right about the fishing!

Day 412:

Kate and I had a flying visit to Strasbourg yesterday to the European Parliament. The visit was organised by one of the written declaration sponsors, Edward McMillan-Scott who is a Vice-President of the parliament.

It was hectic schedule but well worth effort. We met with the other sponsors, many MEP’s who have signed the declaration and many who did not realise that there was a declaration on the introduction of an EU wide Amber alert. As we stated when we launched the declaration in Brussels last month- the alert is not our idea. It already has the support of the European commission and they and other groups such as Missing Children Europe, PACT and Missing People have done a huge amount of work previously. Our hope is that getting the declaration formally adopted by the parliament will speed up the implementation of alerts throughout the EU member staets and facilitate cross-border cooperation. Many of the MEP’s who have not signed said they will and a lot of those who have already signed said they will lobby their National and fellow group MEP’s to sign.

Today we heard that 283 have now signed the declaration compared to 211 on Monday. We are hopeful that the additional 110 signatures required will be achieved by the next sitting of parliament on the 7-10th July. It would be a great shame if the declaration failed because of a combination of ignorance and apathy.

I believe he meant to say "if the declaration fails it will be because of a combination of ignorance and apathy, and completely no fault of ours."

jeeeze louise

:Banane37:

(I just had to add that banana, they are so cute)

Gerry is such an arrogant blowhard! Now he's calling the European ministers who disagree with him "ignorant" and "apathetic"!

Who the heck does he think he is? Hope he and his anorectic wife had time in their busy schedule to remember their murdered baby girl.

Day 434: 7/10/2008:

We have recently managed to have a break visiting family. Sean and Amelie have had a brilliant time and it has been great for me to spend so much time with them. Although this has been a relaxing break, it has been incredibly difficult for Kate and me to have been on holiday without Madeleine- it is all too apparent what is missing.

We were very pleased to learn today that the written declaration calling for the introduction of an EU wide Amber alert system has been successful. More than half of the 786 Members of the European Parliament (MEP’s) were required to sign the declaration for it to be adopted as a full resolution of the European Parliament and as of today 417 had signed. This is a small step in the right direction and a lot of work will be needed to get National Amber alert systems implemented. The idea already has the support of the European Commission and this additional political impetus should speed up the implementation process.

We would like to thank Edward McMillan-Scott and the other 4 sponsors of the declaration, all those MEP’s who signed the declaration and all the members of the public who lobbied their MEP’s.

There has been a lot of speculation in the press over the last 10 days that the investigation in to Madeleine’s disappearance has closed. We have not heard anything officially other than we know the files are with the prosecutor and the period of secrecy has been extended to 14th August. Our independent investigation continues and we urge people going on holiday to remain vigilant and consider taking one of our posters with them- downloadable from the how to help section of the website.

WHAT.....did he say WHAT is missing?????

As usual, Maddie is mentioned in 9 whole words and in a spectacularly detached fashion.

Unfreckinbelievable!!

Isn't that something...:yow:
- it is all too apparent what is missing.

Sounds terrible, doesn't it. Why not finish your 10 second blip on your daughter who was abducted by a ring of paedophiles with something like...
"Oh God, we miss her so much"
"Not a minute goes by we don't think about her"

I wonder if they hire babysitters NOW or do they still leave the twins alone when they go out at night?

would the sharing of their emotions cause people to continue to keep an eye out for Madeleine? if they broke down on TV and in the interviews they do, on a regular basis, would people have more sympathy or would people sneer at them for manipulating the public?

And in the same vein, has the fact that they have not shared their emotional moments to the public caused people to consider that they killed her and hid her body, that they are stealing from the fund, that they have continue to seek the limelight for their own narcissistic purposes?

And, if they had been responsible for Madeleine's disappearance, why would they continue to push the envelope by keeping what they are doing public? Why would they continue to allow the public to view their lives, when they know that there is a huge amount of criticism for everything they do?

What I read from Gerry's latest blog is that it was good to have 2 weeks together, but they were missing an integral member of their family. Simple statement and sentiment that the UK media again has over-dramatized to sell a story.

Thank you for this post.
I can hardly read this thread because of all the hatred towards the McCanns.
This is a very biased thread and anyone who disagrees seems to be sneered at and put down.

Tiresome

You all read so much into nothing.

But, don't you think, at a minimum, he could have said "it is all too apparent that she is missing"? At a minimum, just recognize her as a little human being that meant something in his life. I know this must be difficult for them, but K&G's ability to disassociate themselves from any emotion when it comes to Maddie is astounding, in my opinion.

I agree.

Gerry McCann started his blog because people wanted to know how he, Kate and their twins were coping, and what was going on with the search for Madeleine.

As far as I'm concerned, he has supplied this information to the public.

For people who are interested to see that the McCanns have indeed followed suggestions by the NCMEC as well as other families coping with the disappearance of a child:

Thanks for the link!

I don't see disassociation. They've shared a great deal of their daughter, and their feelings of grief, helplessness, fear, regret, anger, and hope with the public for many months.

Maybe Gerry doesn't want to share more on his blog because he's seen the disgusting and filthy things that have been posted about him, his wife, his twins, his extended family, and most heartbreakingly - Madeleine - on web forums such as the 3Arguidos?

I'm sure he's seen it, don't see how he could miss it.

Maybe that's why he holds back.

It's also possible that the McCanns attitude in more British and reserved than we are accustomed to. I lived in the UK for a couple years and it is a very different society than the US in many ways. But mainly they are not as publicly, uhm....demonstrative as we yanks.

If they cry and sob its "put on" and false and if they dont they must have killed her sheesh! I just dont think Gerry is very good at verbalising and Scots by nature are dour.

I actually agree with you on this, although I also have obviously some other opinions about his nature overall. I mean about the verbalizing.

I think that using "who is missing" rather than "what is missing" would have made all the difference.

Texana - just get involved with those girls and do some laughing...... that headache will be gone in no time!

I was just on back up duty, older DD was running the show. I'm just the lurker in the background...LOL...I am the silent but ever present waiter in the background. Another round of Tylenol finally kicked in some around midnight. I used to take prescription meds for these headaches but I only get about two a year now.

We had some bad news about Mr. Texana's brother, and we stayed up far too late two nights ago. I just need to sleep it off.

Younger DD's group is a beautiful and rather mellow set. Older DD's group is an extreme bunch of random screechers. Even their dance teacher commented that they have become quite loud and well, screechy. Beautiful peacocks!
