While challenging a sitting judge is rare and rarely successful, another race in which that is happening is for Circuit Judge Brian Davis seat in Nassau County.

Others on the ballot who do not plan to campaign against Davis are Don Mairs, Greg Messore and Gerald Wilkerson. Messore is the only one of the three with significant funding, chipping in $8,800 of his money to his total of $10,400.

A recount of all votes cast in the race show Davis, the incumbent, tallied 69,389, or 50.33 percent. He needed 50 percent of the votes plus one to eliminate his three challengers and he got it.

The next closest candidate, Jacksonville lawyer Melina Buncome, had 33,191 votes, or 24.1 percent, on Tuesday. After the recount in the 4th Judicial Circuit Duval, Clay and Nassau, Buncome received 33,219 votes, still 24.1 percent when rounded off.
Two other candidates, attorneys Don Mairs and Greg Messore, received 17.4 percent and 8.17 percent, respectively.
