I thought of that so many times today! If he'd used his regular phone, with today's ping testimony the outcome definitely could have been the same, but that cell phone call was KEY. His doing it in the first place, the video of it, and his initial denial/playing dumb. Wonder whose bright idea it was to do that....Tamster or Sid.

BBM - It was probably both of their ideas. I firmly believe the lure aspect that the solicitor presented. To me the payphone use was the most damning evidence. They thought there would be no trace back to them/him.

Oh my, i went to bed before the end of closing. They really ought to abolish time zones :(

Just scrolling through fb and saw the find heather posts. AMAZING news!!

Reminds me of the story i read the wee ones last night... unfortunately for them, not even a house of bricks is gonna save them now! Infact, dear ol sid will be in that house of bricks while TM huffs and puffs

Hey Surfside, great to see you're still active on Heathers threads. I'm still around albeit behind the scenes. Been following from the start *since Heather went missing* just haven't been posting but really appreciate all the members who have posted and kept Heathers threads alive. Also, a huge thanks to those who've kept us all updated with the tweets and/or videos/pics of the trial/s... very much appreciated!!!

Ditto!

Thanks to TTF for sending me a message - nice thing to wake up to!

GUILTY - 10 years!

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) – Following three days of testimony, the jury in Sidney Moorer’s obstruction of justice trial delivered a verdict in about 50 minutes.

WOW - not even a whole hour!! 50 minutes.... and one undecided juror! :happydance:
I wish they would give us a date for TM gag order trial!! AND reschedule the kidnapping - adding murder trial.....

:judge:

much more to read here.... :online:

I love how it's been 5 hours since the verdict, but 44 of us still can't bring ourselves to leave this thread. I think the 23 guests (lurkers) should officially join us. Come on, y'all.

Do we know the times for SM's journey to Heather's home and the LB area?
And about the text to the pay phone... it always appeared that she didn't know it was a pay phone, and it's now obvious that she didn't. I really wonder how the LB trip(s) unfolded. I believe that's the crime scene, at the very least the kidnapping scene, but I wonder if he tried to bait her there in the first call, she didn't bite, then changed her mind. I also wonder if they made contact in her parking lot even before LB. I still think there were lots of moving parts and we don't know who had control of what phone when, or where the parties were at different times. That's always bothered me.

Yes, I too am wondering about the exact times of all this ^^ did anyone take those down?

TIA!

:loveyou: your post Richmond!!

LOL! totally agree!! 7 hours ahead makes it difficult!

k - off to catch up on my other threads! :pcguru:

Oh - was wondering if we will be getting a NEW Discussion thread.... now that this one is over.

I "see" only 3 people here.... guess all you in the states are fast asleep....

I've always thought they were together during the night but I'm starting to believe SM may not have been present when everything went down. I know they always hoped one would turn against the other. He'll have plenty of time to think about that over the next few years.
JMO MOO etc

UT, it's great to see you! A long road has brought us to this point, for sure. I hope this is just the beginning of justice for Heather. And I hope the Elvises rested soundly last night because of this first step. :)

WOW - not even a whole hour!! 50 minutes.... and one undecided juror! :happydance:
BBM: And that one undecided juror "didn't have an issue with lack of evidence but wanted clarification on definitions." It's amazing watching justice unfold when the defense doesn't have a friend on the jury! :)

I have been out of town - and out of touch for awhile now due to 2 serious deaths in my own family (natural not of a criminal nature) -- and was so happy when we received the text letting us know about yesterdays verdict. Does anyone know if there are video clips (like for the prior trials and hearings) anywhere? I sure hope so!!! I would have watched yesterday (even though I am out of town) but didn't know about it until after the fact. Thanks!!

Trials in Heather Elvis' disappearance:

Sidney Moorer:
* Violation of the Gag Order - Guilty - five months jail sentence (served 61 days, released September 21, 2016)
* Kidnapping - Mistrial, on June 24, 2016 - a retrial is planned in Georgetown County (change of venue), but a re-trial date has not been set.
* Obstruction of Justice - Guilty, 10 years jail, sentenced August 30, 2017 (credit for 345 days will be given for time already served between Feb. 1, 2014 to Feb. 21, 2015) The judge denied the defense’s request of also giving Moorer credit for the 941 days he has served on house arrest.

Tammy Moorer:
* Violation of the Gag Order - she had a low-key hearing on Tuesday (8/29). The case was continued until her next court appearance can be scheduled by the administrative judge. One of the lawyers representing her appears to be Bill Nettles, a former U.S. Attorney for South Carolina,
* Kidnapping: no trial date.

These charges have been dropped for both of them:
Murder
Indecent Exposure
False Application for Medicaid Assistance

Am I missing anything?

While waiting for the next trial, here is a subthread showing TM's narcissism, her Disney Board posts (all while collecting Medicaid): http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?238746-TM-s-Disney-Board-Posts

According to this video (at about the 1:00 minutes mark), the reporter shows Polly leaving the building, claiming she was yelling about Horry County corruption.

http://wbtw.com/2017/08/31/its-a-re...amily-says-guilty-verdict-is-a-small-victory/

It looks like she is escorting the M's daughter out of the building after verdict and sentencing (just the daughter was in the courtroom during both of these).

Also mentioned is that Truslow plans on filing an appeal today.

Hey Hoppy! I was wondering where you were. I'm sorry to hear about your family; I hope you're well otherwise.

Here's a link that has the videos of the last three days: https://www.youtube.com/user/LadyJustice2188/search?query=sidney+moorer+retrial

She has them mislabeled as "Sidney Moorer Retrial," but I think all of them are there. Just check the upload date, because she has other videos of the kidnapping mistrial.

BBM: Of course she was, because it couldn't possibly be that her daughter and son-in-law were complicit in the kidnapping and murder of another human being. Vile.

I left about the time the tweeting was getting rolling on the phone testimony. So, three things:

It was posted that the reporter tweeted that Heather's phone had 6 calls in the LB area and the last was at 3:45. Did that get cleared up? I checked her Twitter and didn't see the tweet.

Do we know the times for SM's journey to Heather's home and the LB area?

And about the text to the pay phone... it always appeared that she didn't know it was a pay phone, and it's now obvious that she didn't. I really wonder how the LB trip(s) unfolded. I agree and really think there is a HUGE gap of events that we have no idea about during that time and much more to the LB location.

I have followed this case since the beginning, and I thank all of you regulars here for keeping the threads and news up to date. It was almost excruciating to watch this trial--with this judge--because I feared it would be a repeat of the kidnapping trial. I walked away from the computer for a couple of hours after closing arguments (Was KT high? OMG) and by the time I returned, not only a verdict but sentencing as well.

I think this judge knows from the kidnapping trial (something he said in response to the motion for a directed verdict in that trial) that SM is guilty as hell, but he always seems so biased against the prosecution. The sentence was surprising, heartening, and sad. Justice was served, but Heather is still gone, still not found. The Moorer children are scarred and will have an uphill battle toward any semblance of normalcy--if they can ever get away from their mother. The cousin went against a very entrenched family culture to testify today--what heart that took.

I was thrilled with the verdict and sentence. But at the end of the day, I feel sad. Sad that Heather was sucked into a vortex of crazy four years ago that ultimately she could not escape. I hope one day she will be found and brought home to rest. May DdM be the first of many who break the cycle to speak truth over family.
I agree with this. Welcome back!

During the trial, the judge mentioned March 24 (?) but I have no idea if that date is set in stone for a trial or what he was referring to. Thanks for this detailed post.

On what grounds, his own horrible representation or the fact that his client got railroaded by solid evidence? Silly man.

Sorry this is so long, I am catching up from last nights posts.

Always, IMO

I dunno, let's see if there is an appeal filed today or if he was just blowing hot air.

I want him to appeal. I want the appeal to be denied. I don't want anyone saying that this man didn't get his fair due. Let's get this wrapped with a nice and sweet Minnie Mouse bow and move on to the next trial in order to get more justice for Heather.

Exactly. I'm not doubting there is corruption in that police department, but just how is she claiming it came into play here? Is she claiming the phone records and pings were doctored? They somehow brainwashed SM into saying he was at that pay phone (and hired a lookalike to make the call?)?
