Fears grow for missing Brit mum, 34, who disappeared on holiday in South America
Fears are growing for a missing British mother who disappeared while on holiday in South America.

Mum-of-one Rachel Smith, 34, was due to return six weeks ago after a week-long trip to Guyana.

She last made contact with her teen daughter on April 27 and friends and family now fear something terrible has happened.

Loved ones have launched a desperate appeal to find Rachel and police have joined in the search.

Lifelong friend Tammy Taylor said: "I just fear the worst has happened. It's not like her not to contact anyone.

"It's been six weeks since we have heard from her. It feels like something awful has happened."

"She added that neither she nor Kamielaa knew the friends Rachel had been staying with, and had been unable to reach anyone who knew her in New Amsterdam."

I hope see is found safe and very soon.

Fears grow for missing Brit mum, 34, who disappeared on holiday in South America

Tammy, 35, said Rachel left her home in Bristol in late April, telling family she was going to stay with friends in the town of New Amsterdam, Guyana, for one week.

She confirmed Rachel had messaged her 17-year-old daughter Kamielaa Smith almost daily.

But contact then stopped on the 27th and friends said nobody has been able to reach her since.

Tammy said: "Her daughter last spoke to her on April 27 but since then her phone's been cut. There has been no communication at all."

She added that neither she nor Kamielaa knew the friends Rachel had been staying with, and had been unable to reach anyone who knew her in New Amsterdam.

Tammy added: "I feel like there's something really wrong. It's not like her not to talk to her 17-year-old daughter. It's really out of character.

"She's quite quiet and keeps herself to herself normally. She's not a party girl or anything like that."

It is a bit confusing how where she went missing seems to have changed.

Hmm. Just to add also I don't think her daughter is married or resides in New York I think that's just the kind of thing younger folk put on their Facebook Profiles.

There's either more to it than meets the eye or she's been found as her best friend hasn't said anything on her profile about it since June last year either.

Ah, I see.
It's just strange why there was no clear indication on Rachel's behalf as to where she went. And if that isn't strange itself, the two places where it was thought she went are the same.

Amsterdam & New Amsterdam

Was it a slip on words from Rachel?
