Father of slain 18-month-old girl indicted for murder (khon2.com)
An Oahu grand jury has indicted Travis Rodrigues for the alleged murder of his 18-month-old daughter, Kytana Ancog.

[...]

Kytana’s mother, Ashley Ancog, appeared before the grand jury and testified on Wednesday. Police say she brought the child to Rodrigues on January 3.

[...]

Witness testimony will likely play a key role in convicting the two men. Court records say a witness saw Rodrigues hit and swear at Kytana on multiple occasions. At one point, she was crying and looking scared and ran up to the witness. And that Rodrigues complained about watching her for the past three days.

The witness saw Kytana naked and crying, saw bruising and marks on her body, and blood near her mouth. When the witness returned the following day, they said the child appeared lifeless. Her grandmother says the incidents are horrific and hard to comprehend.

‘Our community failed this child’: Toddler’s murder highlights family abuse in Hawaii (hawaiinewsnow.com)
Child welfare experts are sounding the alarm in the wake of Kytana Ancog’s murder, saying that more needs to protect innocent kids like her.

[...]

After reading reports that two witnesses saw baby Kytana with injuries, experts say someone should have come forward before her disappearance.

“Our community failed this child. There’s no question the neighbor saw something,” said UH criminologist Meda Chesney-Lind.

“Any time a child is bruised that should be a cause for concern,” she added.

[...]

“If they didn’t report they abuse as they are required to do, they are complicit in this child’s death and disappearance,” he [Steve Lane, court appointed investigator] added.

[...]

“The loss of this baby belongs to all of us,” added Nanci Kreidman, executive director of the Domestic Violence Action Center.

[...]

It’s not publicly known if Child Protective Services was aware of baby Kytana before her disappearance. Hawaii News Now has asked CPS for information.

It’s not a cause for concern. Are you kidding me? It’s a cause for calling 911 right on the spot. Those two need to be arrested and indicted for failure to report a felony. Then prosecuted. Spend time in jail. Let the news report the “travesty” of those two witnesses who did not report the beatings, being arrested and hung out to dry. That’s the only way this will get the attention of people.

This is just the worst. Poor little thing. Battered, bruised and scared she ran to the neighbour and he didn’t help her. OMG! Who doesn’t help a child in this condition?

I am absolutely sickened by this.

All of them should be charged. Seriously, how heartless can you be?

I wish I never opened this thread.

I haven’t read any of this thread yet, mostly because I don’t know if I can bear it. After some cases recently my heart can’t handle much more. Off to read anyway, because that’s what we do.

Rodrigues, Carter being held in isolation at OCCC, source says - Honolulu, Hawaii news, sports & weather - KITV Channel 4
Two people arrested on suspicion of murder in a case involving a missing toddler have been denied bail reduction, and remain at O'ahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC).

[...]

In lieu of bail, Rodrigues, Carter are currently being held in isolation at OCCC, sources say.

Travis Rodrigues or Travis Heffelinger, Kytana Ancog's father, was charged with second-degree murder and held on $2 million bail. 48-year-old Scott Michael Carter was charged with hindering prosecution and is being held on $1 million bail.

I found this thread yesterday and I wish I'd never clicked on it. It broke my heart and I had nightmares. Poor little baby! I wish the mother was charged with endangering a child at least. Why would anyone leave a baby with a meth addict for days? How much she must have suffered, how confused she must have been, she didn't know him, of course she was crying! It will haunt me forever. Monsters. The witness too. Moo

i also have questions. what was wrong w her, why was she in the hospital, why did she think leaving her with him was a good idea. i know shes not a POI so i will shut up so i dont violate TOS but i have questions.

Why wont Carter strike a deal and say where the body is?? I fear worse was done to the baby that they are ashamed to admit.
It could be advantageous for him in hopes of an acquittal.

Legal experts question if Kytana's body will be found despite confession

“They could go to trial with that and if that testimony is believed by the jury, that would be enough. But I’m sure the prosecutors would like to have more evidence and maybe they do,” said Bakke. Carter has a criminal record with felony convictions for burglary and car theft. Bakke said, that information would not be included in the trial. The only time a criminal record is included is if the convictions involved lying. “So if somebody has a prior conviction for forgery or perjury, lying, that’s always relevant,” he said.

Bakke added, both men can still be convicted without the body, but finding it would be better for the prosecutors and Kytana’s family.

Never say never but it seems like Carter has more to lose and would benefit by disclosing where little Kytana's body is and agree to testify against Rodrigues in exchange for a lighter sentence.

If it goes to trial IMO and Carter is convicted he'd get a longer sentence. I just hope he's not holding out in hopes that her poor body will be too decomposed to find a definite COD. To me that would imply some really bad harm was done IYKWIM. MOO.

It feels like the two perpetrators believe no body, no case. Luckily they aren’t a criminal brain trust, not to mention there’s a confession involved. I’ve felt from the beginning the so-called father (monster) thought if his pal disposed of this precious baby’s remains, he could “honestly” say in a a lie detector test, etc., that he has no idea where she is.

Likewise his buddy/accomplice could say he didn’t know what was in the duffel bag that Rodrigues/Heffelinger gave to him to get rid of....

Sorry you two, but LE’s smarter than you. By a lot.

ETA. I do think it’s a stalling tactic either to give it enough time that no COD can be determined or really to cover up just how heinous this really was.
