Key DifferencesLegal Status: When someone is arrested, they are formally taken into custody and charged with a crime. Detention is a temporary holding for investigative purposes without formal charges. Duration: An arrest typically leads to longer periods of custody, while detention is meant to be brief and limited.

Detainment and arrest are connected but are different. A detainment may not result in criminal charges where an arrest will. You may be detained because an officer suspects that you know about a crime or that you were connected to a crime, and their suspicion is reasonable and valid.

The officer can hold you for a period of time while they determine if their suspicion is backed up by evidence. This may come by way of questioning you or by an investigation, or both. In situations where the offense isn’t too serious, detainment may not take too long. However, when detainment is in response to a major criminal event, detainment can be prolonged.

Arrested vs. Detained: What You Need to Know - Seth Kretzer

This is in regards to the civilian world though, and this guy would be subject to Army procedures (not sure what they are).

I remember in the Vanessa Guillen case, CID had the killer detained by his unit, but he was able to take off and kill himself.

Confirmation:

“As an update, an individual has been placed into military custody in the Mischa Johnson missing person case. Mischa Johnson’s husband, Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II, is currently in military pretrial confinement in Hawaii.

PFC Johnson, from Frederick, Maryland, enlisted in the United States Army and attended one station unit training at Fort Moore, Georgia in November 2022. He was assigned to 25th Infantry Division in June of 2023 and serves as a Cavalry Scout (MOS 19D). Our efforts remain focused on locating Mischa, support to her family, and the safety and security of all personnel at US Army Hawaii installations.

This is a current and ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time. We encourage anyone who may have information regarding Mischa Johnson to contact CID. Thank you.”

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division confirmed that Johnson’s husband, Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II, was arrested.

They released the following statement on Monday: “As an update, an individual has been placed into military custody in the Mischa Johnson missing person case. Mischa Johnson’s husband, Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II, is currently in military pretrial confinement in Hawaii.

So according to this article he has been arrested and is in pre-trial confinement. I hope it is hot, miserable and without AC until he admits what he did & where she is. Her family & everyone who loves her deserves to have that.

If he’s the one who started the rumor about there being another man, I hope her family sues him for defamation. This whole thing seems so awful to me. She’s 19 years old! Practically a baby herself.

While Dewayne Arthur Johnson is in pretrial confinement, he has not been charged yet, Army officials told Task & Purpose. Officials did not provide more details about a potential Uniformed Code of Military Justice offense.

According to the UCMJ, pretrial confinement “should only be used when necessary” and can only be ordered if there is a reasonable belief that an offense triable by court-martial was committed, the accused committed the crime and it’s necessary under the circumstances.

ESPECIALLY those who were on Oahu this summer: apparently sister is now saying on the "Missing Mischa" FB page that the LAST TIME Mischa was seen by family was JULY 11th.. "Costco trip with mom".

Husband claimed July 31st was the last time he saw her and he reported her missing August 1. At this point, I would toss that bit of info as possibly garbage.

THIS IS A HUGE TIME GAP... anyone who was heading to North Shore/Haleiwa after July 11 might have seen something.

Bbm.
This is so sad.

She could literally be anywhere.
So much for me asking about security cam. footage that night July 31st, or next morning.
Ugh.
Did any neighbor see her on the base at all ?
Or a military store (PX ?) trip by herself ?
Omo.

The quote says "was seen by" which means MJ met her mom that day. Hadn't there been any phone calls from MJ to any of her family members at all for almost two weeks? That she didn't go to meet them might not be so unusual, but not even one call? (Social media and text doesn't count, as they can be fake.) To me it sounds very odd that there hadn't been any calls, did they really have so little contact? Or is it only "the last time seeing her"?
