Human remains left in kitchen of unlocked Abilene home, family now searching for next-of-kin

How bizarre. Mr. Mark Phillips, the man (boy?) in this case, was a ward of the state of Illinois. He died Oct. 28, 2012 in Belleville, IL. His cremains were left inside the house of someone completely unrelated, eleven years later, in northern Abilene, TX. Alongside the urn were left a flyer, dating to November 10, 2019, from one Bible Baptist Church in Clyde, TX (a few miles east of Abilene) and a copy of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (the Bible translated and printed by the Jehovah's Witnesses) with the following passages highlighted: John 5:19-23, John 5:28 (partial)-30.

“The family said they didn’t call the police or discard it because they have loved ones who are cremated so they know how important it is to find the next of kin.”
I would be 100% freaked out and would be handing that urn off to the police in a blink.

Mark Phillips 56, of Trenton, IL, passed away on October 28, 2012. Mark participated in the Adult Day Training program at the Breese West site. He was a resident of Oakview Home in Trenton, IL.
