DALLAS - The CEO of a Dallas-based website linked to prostitution and sex trafficking has been arrested, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Thursday.
The CEO of a website called Backpage.com was arrested at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport around 2 p.m. Thursday. He was returning from Amsterdam, where the company also has offices.
Paxton said authorities in California had been investigating Carl Ferrer for three years and brought information to officials in Texas several months ago.
"A lengthy joint investigation by the offices of the Texas and California attorneys general uncovered evidence that adult and child sex trafficking victims were forced into prostitution through escort ads that appeared repeatedly on Backpage," read a release from Paxton's office sent later Thursday...

very sad case resulting in the death of a 14 year old girl in Orlando FL

Detectives said that for eight days, the girls were forced to perform sex acts while under the influence of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.


Police said Alsina dropped the 14-year-old off at Orlando Regional Medical Center on Aug. 14. The girl later died of a drug overdose.


The 15-year-old was allegedly rescued from the accused group after the investigation was launched, police said.

A nationwide sex trafficking sting resulted in the rescue of 19 children right here in metro Detroit. Also as part of the sting, 12 pimps in the area were apprehended.

Detroit had the second highest number of children rescued in the sting, called Operation Cross Country IX. The sting took place in 135 cities. In all, the FBI says 149 sexually exploited children were rescued and 150 pimps were arrested.

More than 500 law enforcement officials took part in the sting operations. They took place in hotels, casinos, truck stops, and other areas frequented by pimps, prostitutes and their customers.

The FBI adds that the youngest victim recovered was 12 years old. It did not elaborate which city the 12-year-old is from.

"The Michigan State Police continue to support the efforts to combat human trafficking and rescue victims from the manipulation and constraints of suspects who take advantage of vulnerable children and adults in our community. Our department is committed to working with our law enforcement partners enforcing human trafficking laws and arresting the suspects who facilitate these horrific acts," MSP Captain Monica Yesh said in a news release.

These bags are provided through a government grant and provide victims with the basic necessities they need until long term assistance and support is provided, Saliba said.

[h=1]Uber driver helps find missing teenage girl who was victim of sex trafficking[/h]ELK GROVE, Calif. -- Elk Grove police are crediting Uber driver Keith Avila for helping rescue a girl out of sex trafficking -- a girl he gave a ride to in his car, along with her two suspected female pimps on Monday night.

"They started like talking, like saying everything that was going on. Like what they're doing, child sex trafficking," Avila said.

Avila says he had just picked up the two women and a 16-year-old girl from Sacramento and brought them to the Holiday Inn in Elk Grove, where the two women allegedly pimped the girl out to a man for sex.
Minutes after dropping them off at the hotel, he called police for help.

Today, January 11th, is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day & is the beginning of a month-long focus on human trafficking across the country. There are too many articles to link, but many cities and states across the US will be holding events and running PSAs in an attempt to create a public awareness about how prevalent and devastating human trafficking is.

The City of Phoenix released a new public service announcement about human trafficking to raise more awareness about the "epidemic."

The debut of the PSA came on Wednesday, which is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, which kicks off National Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
